Because the industry gives no fucks anymore about the quality of their work, and management will find some idiotic, convoluted way to make it more expensive than it actually is and then decline it based on the cost
>tfw the bank I work for pays 12k a year for a single jboss instance on a paas, running only 1 webservice of many on each instance, and still everything is horribly slow, bugged, badly documented, etc, and the webservices return EVERYTHING as strings despite using wsdls and perfectly having the ability to use numbers, enums, etc
>mfw the lead dev tells me doing web calls async is not a priority and I can't take the 5 minutes I need to implement it when 4 slow-ass non-dependent calls are executed sync in loops
This is the sad, disgusting state IT is in nowadays. Fat business memers in fancy suits get to make decisions they don't know shit about, and the programmers running things don't give a fuck about what remains in their control. I worked for a government contractor for a while too. The state of their medical-related webservices, ID registry, etc is just horrifying. I almost don't want to work in this field anymore because the disgusting quality of work everywhere hurts my perfectionism

You've clearly never set it up.

I feel a lot of things in this post. Well put.
Maybe the only way out is to run my own business, but then I'd have to deal with all the sales and marketing people bullshit.
