This is the most deceptive thing I've seen all day.

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

Well, it takes some paid software developers to even keep Vala/Gtk barely alive.

does it take paid software to keep gnu plus lincucks alive? :(

Linux isn't worth a fucking penny haha. It's an annoying thing that people like to use when they deem themselves ultra haxor l337 and pretend to think how great it is. Even the creator is a dbag.

A lot of kernel contributors are paid. But fortunately it isn't on a model where they're trying to extort money from us in return for being provided for a product. Rather it's corporations that use Linux, or whose customers want to use Linux with their products, paying their employees to make whatever improvements they need for their business. And thanks to the GPL everyone gets to enjoy the benefits of that.

It's ok, anon. Many of us hide our failures behind sarcasm. It's fine if you can't run and maintain a Linux OS. Not everyone can be chosen.
>>
>>58032722
But i thought linux is free? :O
Do those corporations hate freedom?

That doesn't matter much, since they have the say what gets developed and how it gets developed.
Now, for a kernel that doesn't mean much, it's pretty basic and there isn't that much you can fuck up in this context, but take other projects, browsers for example...

I thought OP was talking about the OS looking like MacOS, not the pay what you want price? (if you put 0 you don't have to donate anything)
>>
>>58032802
OP HERE

I know that you can put 0 in the custom payment but this would not be obvious to newfags/normies and they would be under the impression that they would have to pay for a free operating system simply because of how the webpage was set up.

I'm not against donations but I do think the way it was set up was very deceptive.
>>
>>58032832
Its not a free operating system, its a operating system that can be bought at the price you set it to. They're selling it, just letting you choose the price
>>
>>58032879
>Free distro
>Donate is the default option
Apparently that's the same thing as buying.

>>58032744
nobody wants to maintain broken piece of shit for free cuck

Free software is supposed to be free as in freedom retard, it doesn't mean that it can't come with a cost, see Red Hat for example.

pay what you want shit on bandcamp is the same

Nearly all public licenses (incl GPL) don't prohibit the monetization of software.
It's free as in libre, not free as in gratis.
