How do we kill the Android monopoly for smartphones? The user should be free to install an operating system of their own choice.

Relies on exploits and level three hacking tricks in order to be installed so doesn't count and even if you get it to work they're still based on Android. It also, for some illogical and capitalistic reason, voids your warranty.

You would rather have every phone maker develop their own shitty OS, intentionally making it incompatible with everything else in a tentative to create their own monopoly over their users, like it was in the past?

So? Regardless of how your phone gets bricked, be it from a custom ROM or a failed update, they will just flash your phone with stock ROM. It's the same amount of work on their part.
