I have a 120gb Sandisk ssd, but the Samsung Evo 500gb for $170 is tempting, should I get it?
SATA SSD is quickly getting left far behind in speed.
If you're getting a new one, then get a blazing fast m.2 model.

What if i'm stuck with a 10gbps m.2 slot? Is it still worth it?
>>58017368
The Samsung m2 SSDs are unlike most other m2s, they're much much faster at the moment
Don't just get "an m2 drive" because that could be just as fast as SATA, or even literally is SATA if you get the wrong one
>>58017390
That's only a third of normal PCIe 3.0 x4 speeds, but it is faster than SATA (which is 6Gbps)
I'm gonna say 100% stick with SATA until you get a new motherboard, because a 960 pro like this >>58017368 is already hitting 15-25Gbps, if you get an m2 drive worth having you're not gonna be able to utilize it yet
>>58017368
>get a blazing fast m.2 model.
... and put it in a SATA adaptor because that's all your motherboard supports.
But you still have bragging rights with your "blazing fast m.2 model".

Yeah... I just got an SSD M.2 and the write speeds seem like shit... right? Or am I just an idiot?

Wait, just fucked around with some settings and it seems too be better now, also:

You're supposed to phase obsolete products out, not buy tail-end technologies and incorporate them into your systems.
>>58019860
not everyone has an m.2 slot or a pcie slot aside from the one reserved for their gpu good enough for an adapter
>>58017325
no, $170 is 1tb sandisk ultra ii territory
>>58019860
My Z97 mobo only has the shitty m.2 slot that caps out at SATA speeds.

>Look at my 1TB of storage half the speed of an EVO that will die in 6 months!
