well, there are cinephiles, but thats different, you watch a single movie and you digest it; neither do you see "TV series" as an homogeneous interest;

with anime it seems like its always either the action anime we all know from childhood, or some over the top drama, romanticism, teen angst... its comparable to a dumb girl that just watches rom com and never gets bored of the same patterns, because it just nurtures their immature fantasies

that said, i did watch some animes as an adult: avatar air bender, samurai x, cowboy bebop, but pretty much any anime suggestion i have tried over the years thats supposed to be comparable to any of these is some waifu tier drivel.
