I have the machine in pic related and in OP pic.

>exclusively use the "coffee" function instead of "espresso"
>coffee always tastes kind of bitter no matter what beans I feed it

Just now found out that it's because the water is drained through the grind for too long, drawing out bad-tasting compounds.

Now I hit espresso, and then fill the cup the rest of the way using the hot water function.

The taste is way better, but still kind of watery no matter how little water I add.

Pretty expensive for a machine that pushes hot water through coffee ground by another machine.

Your opinion on double-walled cups?

I hate cold/lukewarm coffee, and while double-walled cups do a fantastic job at keeping coffee warm, I can't stand the feeling of cold glass against my lip and then scorching hot coffee against my tongue.

It's not fake at all it's a pressurized water system.

It's just bad. We have a Saeco super-auto at work and it's impossible to dial it in to make a good shot. It's not awful but it's definitely insipid.

When the thing cost like 2 grand there's no excuse.

Yes. A pour-over coffee maker and a cheap blade grinder are perfectly fine. You have to sit there pouring for several minutes, but it's no big deal. The fresh beans are going to be way better than a Keurig (and cheaper).

I use a Siroca Crossline, it's an AIO grind n drip, but I only need some fast black coffee in the morning, I like it quite a lot, paid $120 USD for it.

The grinder is a bit loud though.

Currently using beans from a local brand Gourmet and Brazil Santos.

Will probably pick up some Starbucks from Costco to see what the fuss is about.

This is truly the most insignificant problem i've ever heard.

Probably both at Walmart. OXO makes a pour-over. Blade grinders will definitely be there.

Only easier way is to get a basic drip maker that boils/pours for you. No matter what, you have to do your own grind (a maker with built-in grinder is costly).

I used a gold filter cup for years. Love that thing. No paper filters needed, brews pretty quickly, just dump out the grounds and rinse the cup.

A few years ago, my acid-sensitive brother-in-law mentioned that paper filters seemed to reduce the acid content. So, I've switched to that. Basically, it's the same as the gold filter, but it takes a little longer and I have to buy a pack of filters every few months.

If you've lived in Washington or Oregon you've probably at least heard of them, they're basically exactly what they sound like, half naked girls with see through clothes or pasties or whatever make you a shitty coffee and charge $5
They got cracked down on so some of the less hygienic things they did are gone but they'd basically act as slutty as possible for a tip
I look at it as an evolution of overly flirty baristas, they just pinpointed where their tips come from

>They got cracked down on so some of the less hygienic things they did are gone but they'd basically act as slutty as possible for a tip

I heard the local Bikini Coffee place got shut down because they were doing, uh, extra things for tips.

I assume this meant things like flashing their pussies rather than handjobs, since the latter would take too long.

I don't know the state of the laws, but I remember back when they instituted a distance requirement for strip joints that serve alcohol. My friends all went to "juice bars" where you buy non-alcoholic drinks and the dancers grind on you.

I have a saeco odea giro plus. I absolutely hate that there is zero check for water in the tank before brewing. There's not even a window on its side so you could see in there how much water is left. You just set the knob to a particular amount, brewing starts, and you may or may not get the chosen amount of water in your coffee.

Any other automatic machines that do not have this flaw?

Why are people buying these high maintenance coffee machines when you could have a better cup of coffee with less effort + money with a french press?
>>
>>58020503
I don't know about the other anons, but I use my coffee machine almost as often to just instantly have a way to dispense hot water for my tea, than making coffee.

It's all about convenience. Sure, you have to maintain the machine, but when you have, it's good for a week to dispense good coffee at the touch of a button.
>>
>>58020541
I just use my electric kettle and put two table spoons of coffee in my french press, pour hot water on it and wait 4 minutes, then put the plunger down and serve. i don't even have to rinse it with soap if i rinse it right after is serve the coffee. plus you don't have to keep buying descaling solution.
>>
>>58020617
But you have to repeat this process every time if you want coffee, while I can just press a button and have my coffee in 20-40 seconds, and pick the time when I do the maintenance work. It's all about time management.

what's your method for using this thing? this is what i usually do:

>grind enough coffee to fill two scoops
>flip press upside down so that the plunger is facing me
>put coffee in
>put hot water in
>stir for about 15 seconds
>flip over and press it into a cup
>add more hot water to cup to make a full cup
>>
>>58020788
The inversion method is supposed to be used to let the coffee brew for a few minutes to simulate a French press. Try 3-4 mins next time.
>>
>>58020330
It's occasionally buy one get one free so 900g instead of the usual 450g if that makes you feel better.
>>
>>58016111
assuming you have access to good fresh roasted beans the MOST important factor is the quality of your grinder. you can get away using a standard 16 bar semi auto as long as you have a good quality grinder (as opposed to spending $1000 on a rancillo silva or la pavoni but using shit pre-ground crap)

I just use a french press and an electric kettle.
Any other coffee making device would require me to wash it after every use and a french press just happens to have the least amount of parts, 2.

Keurig has been aggressively marketing their coffee cartridge crap in my area by giving out free samples in EVERY store I've went to this week.
I asked for one and their machine started leaking water as it was making my coffee.
Not a good impression, and I don't even get what's so convenient about it.
You still have to load it up with water and clean it regularly.
>>
>>58023020
I use French press but if you don't see the convenience then you're delusional. You only fill the tank like once a week and have to de-scale like once a month or something. When you want a cup you just pop a pod and you're set, no prep whatsoever.
>>
>>58023020
I've got a French press and a Kalita wave. I like them both, but the Kalita is a bit easier to clean. Keeping the filter screen clean and free of grounds can be slightly annoying sometimes.
>>
>>58023020
Keurig is so popular because they sell you like a couple dozen premixed coffee of all kinds of flavors.

It's basically like the people who buy premixed instant coffee packages, but now in coffee maker form because of all the sites that tell you coffee from actual beans is better for you, which the masses equal to any kind of coffee maker made coffee is better for you.

Keurig capitalizes on that and the lazyness of most people buy selling you premixed cup coffee which are better for you than instant coffee. Just pop in one of those little premixed cups and you're set.

Alot of instant coffee powder doesn't even have actual coffee in it, just caffeine and coffee flavoring.
>>
Does grinding your beans on site really make that big of a difference when using an aero press?

Currently I use pre ground but it's roasted and shipped to me within 2 days but I'm debating if I should grab a grinder and order whole beans instead.
>>
>>58016588

>>
>>58023255
You're retarded. The man knows good coffee, that's what. And you can't get good coffee from a plastic hot water heater. It can't get hot enough otherwise the plastics melt, and you don't get good coffee unless it's brewed at optimal (HOT) temperature.

This "just drink your shit from whatever and be a man" thing is a modern meme.
Throughout history, some of the most bad-ass warriors, generals, and kings have almost invariably had a taste for the finer things.

Pic related is Napoleon's personal service.

Alexander the Great drank from lavishly ornate golden cups.

Richard the Lionhearted got caught trying to sneak through enemy territory because he stood out for demanding the luxury of roast poultry.

The list goes on and on.

For all I know, tin feels the same as porcelain.

Drinking from a glass double-walled cup is weird though.

>I know from experience that seeping water through coffee grinds for more than a few seconds makes coffee bitter
You sure you're doing it right? A pour-over is supposed to be poured over a 4-minute timespan because that's when brewing grounds release their maximum goodness.

>>58023217
No man. I am not a fan of Keurig but it still makes coffee way better than any instant coffee. People use it for convenience and passable taste (especially when you can get fancy diverse flavors). Everyone knows instant tastes like ass.

>You sure you're doing it right?
Well this is my experience using my espresso machine, the one in OP.

I'm guessing the grind is much finer, and the water can't seep as long as through courser grinds.
>>
>>58028469
Espresso has a shorter steep because it's a very fine grind and it's pressurized. Normal coffee should aim for a brew of 3-4 minutes. If you poured all your water on course grounds it would be over too quickly, so you have to pour slowly. Coffee makers trickle it on slowly for you.

Anyone use or own a capsule coffee maker

I swear that fad lasted a month at most
>>
What's a good coffee if you drink black? I just get a small hot coffee at dunkin with nothing in it because it's cheap, but I've been wanting to save even more money by getting a coffee maker. I was looking at the Japanese UCC coffee after trying one and liking it. Also what's a good coffee maker for a beginner?

>>

"What's a good coffee" isn't much of a question. There are endless amounts of good coffee. As long as you get a decent brand of whole beans, use the beans quickly, and grind right before brewing, you will have a solid cup. The roast style and bean locality is your preference.
>>
I have an impressa F7. It's pretty big and nags me to clean it all the time but it works OK. I wish the water tank was sealed better because the plastic is a dust magnet and dust somehow always gets inside and clogs the filter after a few weeks. No wonder they say to comepletely change the water every week.
>>
>>58029537
>>58029301
Oh, and the best brewer for beginners is a basic drip brewer and blade grinder. A pour-over is a little more work but just as easy.

that's like getting a twitching junkie with a rusty knife to do your wife's sons circumcision, you can get a manual grinder with conical burr for like $50
>>
>>58029666
Of course, but grinding your own is better.

>>58029827
Burr is totally unnecessary for a drip brew. That's like hiring a sushi chef to cut up a Philly cheese steak.

Still doesn't really matter. A connoisseur would get really picky about it, but it's not like a French press where each ground is submerged for the same exact amount of time. Water is passing through the grounds. As long as you have your desired average grain size it should work out.

>>58030011
If it works it works my man. The mechanisms in burr grinders are all the same though some have plastic parts that can break. I assume yours has no plastic so it should decent, even with the cracked housing.

Has anyone actually tried a vac pot?

I want to get one but apparently the ones you can buy nowadays are shit, people say to look for old ones from like 1960 and earlier before Pyrex gimped their product because of methfags. Yet to come across one at Goodwill.

You actually do experience these as a result of caffeine withdrawals. Figuratively speaking. Months of mild depression and slow thinking.

Anyone make these out of metal?

I mean the press assembly itself, the glass beaker is fine but the plastic top thing is broken as fuck.
>>
>paying thousands of dollars for something that practically just boils water and filters it through grinded coffee.

What`s the deal with coffee? I never see fancy tea maker gadgets that cost more than a used car.
>>
>>58033936
What you talking about? The dome lid? It's metal in the one in the pic. I have a plastic lid one, it's fine.
>>
>>58034182
I have the "chrome" one ant it's entirely plastic except for the shaft and the filter.
The plastic guide for the shaft is broken, which is also what holds the two pieces of the lid together, so I can't spin the top piece to turn the black bottom piece anymore. This makes it so I can't spin the thing around to open and close it anymore.

Just feels cheap and plastic as fuck. I bought the chrome one expecting it to be made out of metal so this shit wouldn't happen.
