Sup /g/. /k/omrade here.
I'm learning Web Development on the side of my normal 9-5. I have a pc at home that I use for it. But I'd like to have a laptop to take to work and learn and dick around with there.

I'm not playing any vidya on this thing at all. Going to be completely productivity oriented. Not even worried about the OS, literally whatever works.

Tl;dr: Any recommendations for an inexpensive laptop to practice Web Development, and maybe some minor other programming?

buy a used Macbook. All web devs are on Macs and use Unix tools. all the toolchains always work on Macs, less so on other platforms.

T420, upgrade the screen and drive.

Don't have any more. I'm a simple man, when I see a fat ass, I save it.

Would that really be cost effective? Or am I being trolled.

This is what I was thinking. Can the screens be upgraded to 1920x1080?
>>

Just about anything will do. Most popular webdev stuff tends to run on everything (even windows), and it's not exactly computationally demanding. Basically, look for something with a decent screen/keyboard, and good linux compatibility.

Hence the thinkpad recommendations.

It's pretty valid. I know a lot of devs with MacBooks. It combines JustWerks technology and a UNIX shell.

is saving you hours of hair pulling and wondering why some shit doesn't work right cost effective to you?

>Or am I being trolled.
go on YT, type in some JS framework or type in the name of some conference. pay attention to what computers they use.

Anyway, I was in same situation like you 2 years ago and started with Windows and spent so many hours trying to get shit working. Then I got a used Macbook and stopped wasting my time.

Anything that can open a browser and run notepad can be used for web development. Basically, if it has computing power that is higher than a wristwatch, it is fine for web development.

Grab a Latitude or EliteBook and put whatever on it. Linux or Mac OS would be my choice. Two years ago I would have suggested a plastic MacBook but it's too late for that.
