That nonstandard stagger should be the new standard. It makes you move your fingers less. There is no point in using uneven staggering anymore since mechanical typewriters are long gone and forgotten.

Stiffer, heavier, deeper sounding, and a lot less scratchy. Better in every way imo. Keycap options are limited and even the AEK caps wiggle more than any cherry cap would.

Also, are Matias switches compatible with cherry plates/pcbs?
>>
>>58008375
Not entirely. You can get plates that will fit either switch and PCBs with mounting holes for both, but a lot are designed for one or the other.

http://builder.swillkb.com/ shows the plate cutouts for cherry only, alps only or both
>>

I love Sun but I don't care for their keyboards.

All the ones I've used were squishy, and the placement of the ESC key gets on my nerves.

Yo peeps, not a frequenter of this board, but I have a quick question.
I just found a deal for a G410 tenkeyless keyboard for like, $50. Seems like a decent deal, I think.

https://www.dealzon.com/deals/logitech-g410-gaming-keyboard

Though, I already have a razor lycosa (Got the thing for $30 at some target back in 2008), and it kinda seems like this thing is just fine.

Do you ~keyboard experts~ think it's worth "upgrading?"

I'm having second thoughts because of the strange key layout...
But it's a rarity to see the correct mac function row, and for $80 (with BT) it doesn't seem like a bad beginner board.

I'm surprised they kept the alt key, might as well went full mac and made it option.

Naw, it's just once you start using high quality keyboards you don't ever want to go back. Keyboard quality has gone way down since the '80s, so you see a lot of pictures of old keyboards.

I'm an avid Type M user (IBM keyboard from the 80s and 90s) and won't use any keyboard that doesn't have good feedback and travel. My girlfriend hated my keyboard until hers broke and I lent her my spare - I had to order another spare because she won't give it back.

Want a mechanical keyboard very similar to my Lenovo Enhanced Performance keyboard. Which would be the best one?

I don't need nor necessarily want any shitty gaymer gimmicks like backlights.

Want it to click clack too.
>>
>>58010368
In what way do you want a keyboard similar?

Just the fullsize layout? Fullsize with dedicated media controls? Fullsize with additional programmable macro keys? Fullsize with both those things?
>>
>>58010398
Fullsize with both those things if possible (and USB ports).

Also, what I really meant is the design.

>>58010708

Just got my Unicomp classic delivered last night. Definitely has a good feel to it for typing, no complaints so far. The cosmetic defect stuff has been way over exaggerated, it has one little blemish on the upper right corner that I couldn't even see without shining my flashlight directly at it.
>>
>>58010738
Oh, I do wish they had used the original model M's font for the keys. I didn't really buy it for aesthetics though so it's not a big deal for me.
>>
>>58010708
that's very good when brand new.

1 year in, already mushy
>>
>>58010785
>already mushy

That's why I'm asking for the ones with best quality, although I wouldn't complain if I had to spend 10€ a year, seems like a good bargain considering that I'll be trying out mechanicals for the time being.
>>
>>58010809
don't bother with mechs, they feel and sound like shit.

rubberdome is where it's at.

honestly if it's for work, a 200€ rubberdome keyboard (topre)
would only cost you 10€ a month,
hell 5€ a month in 2 years, and they last over 10 with the same perfect feeling.
>>

>>58010738

I've got three of 'em.

They get abused, and I do have issues with them sometimes (my desktop keyboard has started repeating the letter 'n' for some reason), but any time I have a real problem with 'em I send one in and they fix it for $35. Comes back clean and working. The most common problem I've had was with the shift keys sticking. Sometimes cleaning them fixes it, sometimes it doesn't.

One thing: open it up and move the wire so that it's not pinching, and wrap some electrical tape a few inches along the area where it comes out of the keyboard. The cords for the USB versions suck (but you can order replacements for not too much, and they're easy to replace).
>>
>>58010829

God fucking dammit. I swear to god, I was going to put "inb4 topre" on my post.

Move your fingers up and down between rows m8, without trying to land on a specific keycap. There's no point in moving left or right along with up/down to hit certain keys. The staggering is a holdover from typewriters. Just like the qwerty layout.

I mean they've been rigorously tested by eSports athletes under the most demanding conditions, Razer Mechanical Switches are perfectly tuned to the specific needs of gamers. Featuring optimized actuation points and a durability that surpasses the competition, these impressive switches enable you to execute your commands faster than before, for even longer.
>>
>>58012757
this better be bait
>>
>>58012780
then why buy them in the first place. If you want cherry mounts you can but those for 5 cents a piece
>>
>>58012806
Because I wanted a keyboard with them already instead of buying them from chinkland and hoping they work.

Also the software that comes with the Realforce interested me.
>>

>>
>>58012866
no? But I'd certainly still like to know about the stuff the chinese kids made if the product was part of my range of interests.
hence, it's just a question. I'm not asking "should I buy a razer keyboard?"
>>
>>58012866
Well, some chink switches are better than Mx "Sandy" Cherry
>>
>>58012883
Besides labor violations there is nothing wrong with chinese switches like outemu, kailh, greetech, etc. Some like Gateron are actually better then cherry switches. The thing with razer keyboards is that they charge a higher price just because of the snek logo on it
>>
>>58012910
yes but how are the switches? I don't care about all this, I just wanna know how they feel, how they differentiate from other blues.
>>
>>58012835
the only difference between razer and kailh switches is the razer oens supposedly have razer quality assurance professionals at the kailh factory to help assure quality

which considering how garbage razer's other shitty products are, means sweet fuck all
>>
>>58012936
how can you say this when they have different actuation points and resistance?
>>
>>58012932
The only Chinese switch I have is an outemu blue. Compared to the cherry equivalent mx blue its louder and even more higher pitched, as well as being heavier to press. One of the keys makes this annoying squeak when you press it down, but this is a result of the poor quality control, which Razer could have fixed in their switches, but I don't really know if they did. I've also read online that people are reporting inconsistencies between the switches.
>>
>>58013024
again, it doesn't even have close to same specifications as other chinese switches, so I don't see how that's relevant. the outemu blue is closer to cherry in the hard specs than it is to the razer switch.
>>
>>58013082
If you want to buy a razer keyboard then go ahead. Its your money and I can't stop you. Now this style of switch has been around since 1985 and has come in wide range of varieties with different springs and metal leafs. I can tell you that the leaf can barely be felt and that the spring makes the biggest difference in the feel of the switch.

>>
>>58013301
You really can't feel the leaf.
The first mx style clicky switch was introduced in 1987, while the first mx switch was blacks in 1984. So I was wrong about the 1985 date.
>>
>>58013301
He's trying to explain that even though "Razer" switches have some slight differences in comparison to other chink switches, nearly all of them are victims to poor quality control, inconsistency and being overpriced. Razer falls in line with all of these problems.

You seem to be adamant on buying expensive, "tuned for gaymin" chinese keyboard, though. It's your money in the end.

No, and that's why I want more recommendations.
But the price is not so bad if I'm only going to use it once or twice on a keyboard.
I'm also looking at this.

There are a few 68%ish layouts that have only and exactly what you want, if you're willing to build it yourself. But it'll be much easier to find greens on (and get custom keycaps for) a TKL board. Blues are ubiquitous, of course.

Get a keycap puller and use your hands to remove the gunk in it.
That should get most of the stuff from normal wear.
Of course you could do without one but it would be more difficult to remove the keycaps.
>>
>>58021966
thanks. what do you use to clean the keys themselves? just something sharp to get random gunk off?
>>
>>58021996
You could use IPA on the tougher gunk but dish soap, water, and a toothbrush should be enough.
If you have shiny ABS keys this won't do anything as there is permanent wear on the keys, making them reflect light uniformly.
I guess you could sandblast them.
>>

it's alright, doesn't seem to be too bad. willing to bet an old toothbrush would be more than enough.

Are they double shot PBT?
ABS is less acid resistant I believe.

Shitty membrane keyboards, first time buying a mechanical keyboard. I was thinking about a g710+ or a g610, just want to know what other options I can have at this price range.

G610 with browns because it has a standard bottom row, so you can replace the keycaps, and browns because reds are too light, they're linear, and "muh gamer switches"

The bottom row on the G610 isn't standard, nor is the stabilizer placement

I was not prepared... for such an awesome gift, or for such incredible caps. Brohoho has always been one of my favorite coloways. I find it uniquely Brocaps. This is the first time I've handled the Rama stem too, very nice!
AND
'The Betrayer' is a marvel to behold. So much detail, so much expertise on display, and top notch craftsmanship and finishing. I have no idea how he achieved the variation in color on the horns, but they have a very realistic look. Another great feature is the stem is translucent and allows the eyes to be backlit very effectively. There are more details than I have words for! I love it! Thank you so much Bro, you live up to your name yet again. I can never thank you enough. <3

Why I can't find a decently priced keyboard with spherical keycaps?

Fucking lucky bastard. Congratulations.

Because XDA and Devlin drops aren't common yet so the only reasonable sources of spherical keycaps currently are SP and vintage boards.

M$ Wired 600 Rubberdome

Just need anything better than this MS basic keyboard that I got for $12 including the mouse. Hell, I'd even learn to put the whole thing together myself if I can do it for under $50. Is there anything cheap that is in the middle of rubber dome and mech? Or does a kb exist that is rubber dome but actually nice to type on?

>>58026154
Yea it's called a topre keyboard look it up

yes

About the only mechanical you'd be getting for $50AU is compact chinkshit. If you're really deadset on fullsize, you'll be paying at least $100, maybe as much as $150.

Good to know. Thanks m8. I'll just wait then.
