I recently built my own home media server. It is running FreeNAS-9.10.1-U4 with 8GBs of memory and an i5-6500 CPU.
Right now, it is just running two jails: Plex and Transmission. I tried to setup couchpotato but it would not snatch movies and I just gave up on it.
Transmission is setup to connect through NordVPN but therein lies the problem. IT IS SO SLOW. I was very happy torrenting using their VPN service on a laptop or a desktop to grab a quick movie or two but now that I have a dedicated box to download, its performance is subpar. What can I do to speed it up? Thanks.

Move.

I don't want to move to Canada or Luxembourg

You can move anywhere in Europe except Germany and UK.

I really didn't want to start this thread to argue about where to move. Could the slow download speeds because the jail is underpowered?

No.
Try changing the VPN server location.
The difference in speed could also be your skewed perception. Run a speed test from the FreeNAS.

you need to tell us the actual speeds so we can mock you further.

I have set to download from the same server I used before I used FreeNAS and the speeds are slower but the real problem is that I have never seen it move faster than 400 kb/s. Like it's capped there or something.
>>57998010
400 kb/s is the max it has achieved.

Are you running off a usb drive? Think about where your temporary files are kept.

I have it running off a SSD
