I plan on buying an asus strix 1070 or 1080 gpu. I dont want to have any screen tearin/stuttering/etc. Just a normal gaming experience. Should i buy a 1080p monitor with 60hz so i can run all my games on ultra with no screen tearing? Or can i buy a 1440p monitor with 60 hz? I wanted to game on a 144hz monitor, but everyone keeps giving me two different answers. Either 1) "the screen tearing wont be as noticeable because the image isnt up as long as a 60 hz monitor" or 2) if my gpu cant keep up with the 144hz monitor then the screen tearing will be awful". What should i do /g/? Do i have to invest in a gsync monitor?
Tl;dr what kind of screen can i pair with a 1070 or 1080 to avoid screen tearing without hurting my wallet. My budget is $400-500
one with g-sync
I have a 1070 and a 144hz/1080p. It's great. Either get that or a 60hz/1440, you'll love either.

There wont be any screen tearing?
I'm also getting a new monitor, but I'm thirsty for gsync and I've got a strict $400 budget, so my only real choices are the AOC g2460pg or the Acer XB241H. Not sure how to decide as there are very few reviews of the latter
You do realize nvidia lacks full hardware async compute support and blows in DX12 in recent benchmarks against AMD cards, right?

IF (keyword IF) you want to do 1080p only, then the XFX rx 480 GTR with a freesync monitor is godlike
IF you can wait longer for vega go higher res with freesync
If you're buying now tho 1070 is overkill for 1080p and perfect for 144op. 1080 is max overkill for 1080p

DX12 is a weird thing

No shit it's faster. The fact that it's only ~40% faster than the Rx 480 is what's very troubling.
You're literally paying ~300% more for ~40% more performance, goy.
The Fury is literally the best bang for your buck card right now. Its within 4% of the performance of a 1070 in most games, and will likely just get better with DX12. Its stupid to buy a 1080 for anything lower than 4k.
