smartmontools will give you more in depth info on your seagate hdd which is mysteriously failing
Click on the gear icon in the top bar and look at the SMART info. It will tell you what failing attribute is failing.
No matter which of them tho, you should probably get another backup disk.
Also how is that off site when it's mounted locally.

You need to use Seagate's proprietary software to check the health of the disk
Because they use proprietary SMART attributes Gnome Disks will never give you an accurate reading
