I've seen and used them before, but I cant justify the cost for the upgrade, even if i tried to flip this one to subsidise it. Getting one with high enough capacity for me would be costly also, as i would need the 512gb, as 256gb is just not enough for me. Yes, it was great when OS X was great. The past 3 years for my 2011 Macbook have just gotten worse and worse. I now dualboot it because I am still stuck with an iPhone and am married to iTunes still. The whole direction Apple has been moving in since Steve Jobs croaked has just been horrible. Their build designs on their newest laptops are abominable. Also their OS's for their Computers and their phones is just garbage. Their desktop OS is not stable. It is riddled with bugs if your machine is over a year old because their developers do not care about the older models. Most problems, if they are ever fixed, take months to get resolved. When I do run OS X it is basically stuck at running around 3 gigs of ram with nothing open. When I boot into linux it is about 1.5 gigs. Also Gnome is so much better than Aqua can ever dream of being. You can actually customize it, which is something apple can't accept. They don't understand that people aren't content with a boring, cluttered UI.

I do. I got it for 300 bucks off a friend after the HD drive. Replaced the cable and the HD with a 500gb SSD and I gotta say, this is the best laptop I've ever used. I would never pay full price for one, but they're great laptops.

Yes, it's my first, bought two months ago. Not quite a convert yet, but it's not bad. Looking for a new laptop last October, I wanted something that had good screen resolution (I actually had to scale the screenshot because it was over 5 megabytes) good graphics capabilities, ans was portable. I also wanted a traditional laptop, without a touchscreen or a ton of gimmicky shit I didn't even want that would break anyway or become unfunctional if I switch to Linux or even just reinstall the OS. The 13 inch Macbook Pro was everything I was looking for, aside from being a Mac, so I thought I'd give it a try. It even has GCC, Vi and Emacs as well as some other tools I'm familiar with from Linux.

I'm stilling using m 13" MacBook from late 2008.

I'm not sure what it's going to be replaced by. a MacBook Pro with the options I want is about $1,900 after taxes. There's the Air, but I refuse to buy one with a TN display that isn't 1080p/1200p or better.

If I decide my preference for OSX isn't much of a priority for me, I'll likely just go with a Dell XPS 13.

Haven't been a mac guy my whole life but I recently have been lent one for work and also use it for school work. From a developer standpoint and non neet, it's a very solid laptop for general code/work that functions similar to Linux(muh bash) without making you look like a virgin. I don't see anything wrong with a mac other than the price point if you're not aiming for raw performance.

MacBook Air 2011, my last. Haven't used it for like 6 months now. When there's no positive to using them (Aperture is kill, the browsers have gone to shit, I switched to Android so none of their integration stuff works) all your left with is the shitty Apple special snowflake stuff like insisting on the CMD key for shortcuts, home/end keys that don't work properly, and the choice between either playing cat-and-mouse with a Hackintosh or getting some overpriced shit with soldered RAM. Bye bye Apple goodbye.

Mine is a 14". It is in very good condition and the battery in it is in good shape. Too many clowns on Ebay trying to sell iBooks and Macbooks in horrible condition with knackered batteries.

One thing people never mention about Macintosh is how nice the fonts are on it. The fonts on Windows and GNU/Linux are ugly compared to the fonts on Macintosh.

I am thinking of installing OSX 10.4 on mine so I can run it in Classic mode. They are a ton of great games for OS 7.5 to 9.2.

The Macintosh version of Prince of Persia is the best one for instance. I don't like Laptops that have screens bigger that 14". 15.6" and larger display Laptops are not portable.

This new memebar model doesn't sit right with me.

I think this is a good thread to ask.

I recently got a Late 2009 MacBook for real cheap, it's in excellent condition, even the battery still lasts 5 hours, did a few drains and recharges.

From my junkbox I added in a 120GB Kingston SSD and two 2x4GB DDR3 sticks. Work perfectly.

I haven't decided on what OS I should settle on, it is quite a old machine, should I go for 10.9 or stay with Sierra, 10.9 is probably going to have app support for quite a while? What are some good tips to speed up Sierra? What things to disable, etc? Sierra runs OK, but people say Mavericks is even faster?

Any other tips? I love the size and overall comfiness of it, ideal for use in bed and taking on trips.
