He rents a server, puts minecraft on it. Probably has it decked out with a bunch of server rules and mods etc. Then he advertises it somewhere and sells a monthly subscription or someshit to rich autistic children.

This was a couple of years ago at least so I don't know if kids still play minecraft or are willing to play on multiplayer servers. i met this guy in IRC during my first year of uni.. he needed a dev and i've been programming since middle school so i figured i could help him out

he was a total asshole who ended up exit scamming but i did meet some friends in my time working for/with him

a couple years later i ended up getting kicked out of uni for poor grades, and around the same time one of my friends from the previous job asked me if i wanted to help out with another, similar job he had, so i figured i may as well take some time to work before trying to increase my GPA to get back into school

spent the next 8 months writing a website, we ended up making over a million USD (the industry is a bit grey-area and very, very profitable if you know what you're doing)

i only got 10% of the profits, and they sacked me and took my code when i asked for more, so here i am re-applying to university with an extra 100k in my pocket.

feels like it all just fell on my lap, i guess i'm pretty lucky

I'm a line cook.

I work 12 hours a day, 5 days a week.

I love the kitchen life.

Always trading food for drinks from the bar. Closing down a shitty night with a beer is always the best feeling.

Being with your homies when its 5 minutes to close and having a 8/10/15 top all walk in at the same fucking time.

The feels when you come in and the guy before hasn't done shit all for prep or even fucking cleaned/refilled/flipped a god damn thing for you. 911s out the ass and doing everything on the fly just to close and leave it better than the ass fuck who left it for you.

Constantly talking shit to everyone around, head out to the bar after close just to drink and talk more shit.

Industry has my heart and I don't think of doing anything else.

The people I work with are my brothers and sisters. I wouldn't want to go through the weeds with anyone else. Bonded by blood and flame.
>>
>>57964731
You sound like how Bourdain did in his books. Hard job but rewarding and a intense life to go with it
>>
>>57964731

I worked as a line cook one day a week. It was great and it matches your experience, but I was pretty worn out, I think 12 hours per day would be too much for me. I mean I can easily put down the work, it's just the physical component, standing around all day, and I'm not even unfit..

The best days were the ones where we got filled to capacity, in a sense it was almost relaxing because it was an opportunity to just focus on being a chef, forgetting all about programming and research, kind of like being in the flow.

>>
>>57964816
24.

>>57964801
The flow you describe is one of the best parts of the job, but it's only as good as your line is. If you have a weak station, you're always going to be falling behind or otherwise interrupting the flow.

As Anthony Bourdain said:
Line cooking — the real business of preparing the food you eat — is more about consistency, about mindless, unvarying repetition, the same series of tasks performed over and over and over again in exactly the same way. The last thing a chef wants in a line cook is an innovator, somebody with ideas of his own who is going to mess around with the chef's recipes and presentations. Chefs require blind, near-fanatical loyalty, a strong back and an automaton-like consistency of execution under battlefield conditions.
>>
>>57964907

Yeah, this was a necessity for us as well. As a line worker I had to make sure that I only relayed mission critical information to the sous-chef, being independent only when my assigned tasks were done. I worked in a student kitchen though, and as professional as we were (we actually made very decent food) I don't think it's close to conditions at most serious outfits.

I own a business. Or businesses, I suppose.

I'm content because this has always been my dream. I love having access to a petabyte of storage and other amazing things.

One of the notable downsides is the envy of people. Which is disappointing because people play victim to circumstances they've created, but then blame you for it. Oh well, can't help them all. Hopefully they'll sort their lives out eventually, but I stopped hanging around those types of people. Not worth it trying to help them.

I repair smartphones and tell people it's not cheaper to get a new one by extending the service provider contract for 24 months.

Sometimes they even say it's cheaper to buy a new Samsung S7 edge for ~800USD than replace the screen for ~300. Even though we use Samsung bought original screens.

I just don't understand, especially when normies are terrible at transferring between two devices. Even from Iphone to Iphone is a mystery to them.

The Air Force is the comfiest branch by far. You have less of a chance of being stuck on some stupid non-job related detail in the Air Force. The only bad thing about the Air Force is you could end up in like North Dakota or some other middle-of-nowhere place.

Navy is probably the second comfiest, but no matter what your job they might send you below deck to wash dishes or scrape paint as it's required of everyone to do those rotational details unless your an Officer. Navy has some good base locations, since they need to be close to the water for obvious reasons...

Manage a Pentest and Vulnerability Assessment Lab for huge multi-national company.

Pay is OK: 80k + bonuses, full cert/tuition reimbursement, tons of fringe benefits.

I actually turned down way more money from other companies (Penetration Tester jobs) to work where I am.

Company is awesome. Bosses are awesome, and I am surrounded by incredibly skilled devs, engineers, and programmers who are way smarter than me; I learn whatever I can from them constantly.

Also, I am testing networks and systems important to the infrastructure of civilization, so I am making the world a little better place.

Not bad for a guy with a GED, who was homeless five years ago and had a shit upbringing.

Stocks

I am basically both a NEET and a wageslave. I can work the whole day tomorrow, sit and research stuff the entire night after the markets close, and proceed to work the next day up until the night.
I am then absolutely free to decide to pull all my positions and go on a 3 month NEET vacation. No boss, no worry of getting fired because of XYZ, close to no stress (when you get used to it that is) and I literally don't even have to move from my bed to do it.

Best part? I live in Bulgaria, where the average wage is about 400-500 euros. I am basically king here. I can pull out tomorrow and have enough money to live into my 70s due to how cheap everything here is. So I'm not even forcing myself to work anymore, I'm literally working "for fun" and to have enough capital for when
the entire IT sector of the US crashes, along with ~5T of the GDP
and become seriously rich by shorting the botnets

I don't think I responded right..

Like I said I am more of a lurker then a poster.

How I did it: There was no magic. I spent every spare minute (sometimes 8-16hrs, but no less then 4 hours per day, 7 days a week for years) learning networking, programming, InfoSec/NetSec, I built a test lab with a mess of VMs etc.

The information is out there, but you have to be consistent. Don't cut corners and be consistent.Especially when learning the fundamentals. Consistency and the will to sacrifice for future goals is what separates those who make it from those that do not.

When you get an interview of any kind, let your passion show. Know your fundamentals, because passion can carry you far, but it is no replacement for core competency.

I completed a bunch of bug bounties, trained my ass off. I completed bug bounties, did a mess of freelance pentests, and when the tech interview came I knew my shit.

The fact that I was completely self trained was a large part of why I got so many offers; Pentesting is like hacking: competency matters most. The fact that I wanted it bad enough to get to the level I was at myself showed I wanted it more then the other candidates.

The information is out there. It's just about how bad you want it and never giving up. You can be rejected a 1000 times; you only need one offer.

Good luck.

>Perhaps in my next life I'll do better.
That's like when I tell myself I'll do better tomorrow. You've gotta start today, or you'll end up a piece of shit in all of your lives.

How much networking knowledge did it require to get the job (CCNA, Linux services, hands-on WAN shit experience, anything else?), what knowledge is mostly used on the job, how much human interaction does it involve?

Autism buck.

I make malware and scripts for script kiddies on the anonops IRC, pretty profitable and low risk for me - some "hacking group" of rich 14 year olds pays me 500 a month just to give them advice and shit

Wagecucking in a grocery store part time until I get my life together. I spend my free time writing little novellas and vignettes about the characters in an RPG I used to be working on with my friends but is now on hiatus due to everyone being unavailable and timezone differences. I really ought to be working out more since I want to join the navy like most of my family did.

how much do you work per week?

>>57972945
>> How I did it: There was no magic. I spent every spare minute (sometimes 8-16hrs, but no less then 4 hours per day, 7 days a week for years) learning networking, programming, InfoSec/NetSec, I built a test lab with a mess of VMs etc.
> The information is out there, but you have to be consistent. Don't cut corners and be consistent.Especially when learning the fundamentals. Consistency and the will to sacrifice for future goals is what separates those who make it from those that do not.
You sound like what I want to become regarding discipline. Maybe same fields you mentioned too, but just web-dev for now because I need income asap.

If you're capable of running a business, then how are you eligible for disability bux? I thought they are for people certified for being unable to work, let alone run a business.

I thought that you couldn't get a C job anymore these days unless you have been programming in C professionally for at least the past 10 years.

Where did you learn electrical engineering?

I don't think they could find anyone like that and compared to the students I was competing against for the job I'm like Dennis Ritchie when it comes to C.
