what kind of programs do you guys run on these low-spec '''''cloud''''' VPS services?
I'm not trying to shill but Ethernetservers is great and is cheaper and you get more. Check it out.
I was using it to host servers for /g/ and /v/ and for personal use but I quit my job and went to school so I had to cancel my servers. It sucks but it is what it is.

I host my own shit because I'm not a retard
>>57958919
the point of the post was what you run on your server, not who is hosting it
only a retard would have missed that desu
>host own home server
>buy domain that always points to home ip address
>post links to it all over 4chim
its worked out well so far
seems like they're used mainly for website hosting then

I run a syslog server, which primarily manages logs from my firewall. I also have a public facing knowledge base / blog with a web file manager to easily transfer files to and from my server without additional software.

I'm actually curious what would happen if you did this. I don't think there are any actual hackers here anymore, so...

I do this, there's nothing wrong with it if you know what you're doing. My edge device is a firewall.
No I'm not giving you my domain.
>web server
>tf2 server
>irc bnc
>teamspeak server
I have 2GB ram though

Those prices fucking suck. OVH offers 2GB memory, unlimited bandwidth, 10GB storage SSD, 1.4ghz vcore for £2.49 a montj
>>57958798
znc irc bnc
puush clone
tinyrss
I dont use it but I configured a owncloud install on a server a friend pays for
also those server prices are nothing great
>>57959164
as long as you secure shit down and stay up to date you're pretty safe, even moreso if you have an actual firewall.

LAMP stack
VPN
That's about it.

Oh, Postfix/roundcube for email.
A few random web utils that I coded myself to do various shit, hidden behind unlinked urls with basic auth or some serverside security.
>>57959164
i did it once and noticed a port scan in my firewall logs, along with a few skid-level attempts at sql injection in my server logs (and the web site I was hosting didn't even use a sql database)

>he uses Apache
digital ocean is overpriced
try OVH or Aruba if you don't want to get riped off
