C++ Question

Can anyone tell me why pressing the up arrow key still moves the user beyond the boundaries? For this assignment I'm not allowed to edit what my professor did for us and instead I have to use inheritance and pointers, but I'm behind and those are the two things I'm really fucked with at the moment.

It worked just fine when I went and edited it myself but that wasn't super helpful. I assume it has something to do with line 107 where I have "

I'm really at a loss. I thought by using
PickUpGame::Move(Direction);
in my inherited Mine class it would somehow insert my if else statement into my PickUpGame class, which we're not supposed to edit.
>>
>>57956261
The Game object in your class is of type PickUpGame, therefore the Move method you call will be the one from PickUpGame. To call the correct Move method (from class Mine), the Game object must be of class Mine, otherwise you are bypassing the coordinate check and skipping to coordinate update.
>>
>>57956370
The problem is that you're not making a Mine on line 128. You're making a PickupGame. So when you call Game->Move() on line 138 you're not executing the method you wrote in Mine, you're executing the original PickupGame method without the bounds detection.

The Mine class you made doesn't "insert" anything into the original PickupGame class. PickupGame is its own thing and remains completely unchanged. When you write a class that inherits from an older class, like how Mine is a child of PickupGame, you're basically saying that Mine has the ability to use PickupGame's original methods, on top of having unique code. When you call PickupGame::Move() from within Mine, you're not changing PickupGame at all. Mine is just executing that PickupGame::Move() method on that line as if you wrote it for Mine in the first place.
>>
>>57956370
See >>57956377
The solution should be simple as explained but you should clarify your conceptions about inheritance.
Unfortunately, inheritance does not work as you are describing. Inheriting does not mean injecting or modifying the code from the inherited class. The inherited class is not modified. In particular, the fact that the two methods are using the same name does not mean they represent the same function (just think of their qualified names, PickUpGame::Move versus Mine::Move),
When a class inherits from another class, it means it is able to use (i.e. call) the methods from the inherited class. Your Move function could be called Donald and you could still be able to call the Move function from PickUpGame because your child class inherited all the PickUpGame methods and can make use of them.

>>
>>57956644
//You can modify and change main()
I suppose this means you can adopt the main to make use of your code.
Since it looks like you are just getting started, as a general suggestion, do not rely on the code structure from PickUpGame's methods to write your classes' mehods. Think of the two as different functions. Since we do not have the assignment we don't know what you are supposed to implement but you get the idea, just remember that inheriting from a class is NOT editing the inherited class code. The idea is that you can call all the inherited class methods in a read-only fashion, to put it simply.

If your device uses Realtek drivers and if you are running Windows, check if you have SwUSB.exe and/or RunSW.exe processes running.
They caused me a lot of problems until I resolved in uninstalling the driver the card shipped with; the programs used by these processes are bugged and cause a memory leak which causes random disconnects and memory hogs when left running.

The question is too vague. Which language are you talking about? What do you mean with declaring character strings as integer? In most languages, each variable is defined univocally by a single type. Therefore you either declare it as string or integer. Maybe you mean "why can character strings be assigned to integer variables?" In this case, a type casting operation is taken in strongly typed languages to ensure the container variable gets a value of its type by converting the string to an integer. This conversion may be of various types and, again, we need more info to talk about that in greater detail.

As for plug the old router in, yes. So your set up is like this:

>Coaxial cable goes from wall to modem
>CAT cable goes from modem port into INTERNET port of new router
>CAT cable goes from router to INTERNET port of old router

That should provide access to the old router and allow it to connect.

My VOIP adapter is this:

The only reason I am aware was before I started learning about this, my dad was in charge of tech, and it was an area he wasn't knowledgeable about. We ended with with two routers in some strange configuration to give internet to the house, and I had to learn how to port forward through 2 routers. Eventually I learned and changed some things so we only needed one router, but it gave me some insight to a few rare circumstances.

I have a domain at 1&1 and a host at Bluehost for a Wordpress I'm setting up. I want a blog. subdomain.

Is it better to have the subdomain at 1&1 or at Bluehost?

Points

>I managed to create the same "blog." subdomain at 1&1 first and Bluehost shortly after by mistake. I tried deleting the 1&1 subdomain but apparently it's taking ages. I used the bluehost subdomain to install wordpress, but now using the admin log-in link just redirects me to a "blog.mywebsite" subdomain that has a 1&1 template on it still. Did I fuck things up or will it correct itself once 1&1 remove their record of the subdomain?

I want to store some bitcoins in cold storage. I have a Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976, which will be used for and only for an offline Bitcoin wallet. I have a very simple question; I've never compiled source before so I'm not sure exactly how it's supposed to be done:

In order to install source code, normally you have to get it by cloning a repository from GitHub. In which directory exactly are we supposed to clone it (to make things organized)?

Also, by the time the installation is complete, should I delete the repository I just cloned (much like we delete zips once we extracted the contents) or do I have to leave it there in order for the program to work?

My 64GB ipod no longer cuts the mustard for holding my whole music library in portable form. I've deleted loads of songs and moved from 320kbps mp3 to 256kbps AAC and it's not enough. I easily need at least 256GB or more for storage.

That said, building a custom mp3 player. How feasible? I'm figuring for storage four 64GB MLC NAND modules plus a controller I have yet to decide on, a 24-bit Cirrus Logic DAC, and then the microprocessor. This isn't going to be running some fancy OS so I don't feel I need some kind of ARM processor but I don't know if something like a PIC32 would quite be fast enough.

Anyway, feasible?

>>57959682
It doesn't really matter where you clone it to, as long as the directory structure is intact. And yes, you can delete the source after the program is compiled.
>>
>>57956070

For $1000 just about anyone could buy a brand new PC even if they were dumb enough to think their PC is forever lost. For like $100 you could buy a brand new SSD to host your OS, stick it in your rig and launch with your old drive as a slave with no data loss.
If you're already doing isolated SSD OS with slaved HDDs/SSDs, you can literally just do a fresh OS Install and you're done in a few hours tops.

Not worth it IMO. I did it a few years ago with my old (stolen about a year ago unfortunately): the "hardest" part was replacing my CPU standard fan with a superior aftermarket one, which is recommended to stay cool. But after that, all I did was go to the BIOS and increase the CPU multipliers by .1 Ghz until I had gone from 3.3 to 4.2. Seemed pretty safe, but I never saw a significant performance increase and probably raised the power consumption by a disrespectful amount.

I'm trying to understand the relationship between RAM clock speed, voltage, and CAS timings.

It's my understanding that you want your CAS timings low, but when I up my clock speed on my RAM (from 1333MHz to 2400MHz), my CAS timings go up (from 9-9-9-24 to 11-13-13-31).

This means my RAM latency has increased, doesn't it? I'm not sure what the diminishing returns are on higher clock speed vs higher CAS timings on RAM.

Any insight is greatly appreciated
>>
>>57960245
Yes, but programs rarely need just a single thing from memory. So even though those sticks have higher latency they might still be faster due to higher clock speed allowing more read operations in same time period.

I just want to confirm I did more or less the right thing on this. got woke up out of a sound sleep by the worry that I'd missed something simple on this issue.

The TL:DR

>have a motorola droid 3.
>decide to upgrade to motorola droid 4
>order one from amazon, get it and do the bs with my carrier to swap to the new phone
>have issues with battery life, assume it's due to it being a new phone and finickey
>issue never goes away, do all the usual tricks, mess with brightness setting and see what's eating up battery, kill excess processes
>cannot for the life of me get the damn thing to last more than 8-10 hours without needing to recharge.
>the phone eats through battery like a fat man at a buffet, even in airplane mode and completely off at a rate of about 10% an hour
>even more so when actually, ya'know doing phone shit with it.
>give up, downgrade back to my old droid 3
>factory reset droid 4, do a couple more attempts, including the turn it off and leave it charging extra long bit
>final test have both phones on, 4 in airplane mode, go to work and have the phones in similar conditions
>(dry box in the raft while bouncing in and out of signal+ a little bit of poking around the web when in signal on the 3, 4 was left alone more or less all day)
>get pic related by the end of the day

I was right to send the 4 back for a refund right?

I just keep feeling like I missed something obvious.

droid 4 on the right, droid 3 on the left.

The challenging part is keeping them running under heavy load. If you just install a SQL database and a few tables it'll go offline in seconds under heavy load. You need to know all the little settings and which ones to use at given load.

There are multiple standards. Just get a rack that has same width as your components and it'll be fine.

I just got a rx 470 and when i start up the pc, i can see the POST and everything, but the moment it reaches the OS selection menu (I'm dual booting windows 7 and 10) both my monitors show 'no input' and i only get picture back when one of the OSs starts. Now this isn't a huge issue since i can sorta guess where the selection is, but it also happens when i try to go to boot options of the OSs (pressing F8) which would be trouble if i ever need to go to safe mode. poorfag wanting to buy a computer for solely porn editing. i have ocd and obsess about porn, and it having to be right to the point, or just my favourite parts. right now im using a shitty laptop (pic related), and its taking forever. if i were to try to snag a decent computer off craigslist or kijiji, what are some specific search terms i should look for? what specific video cards or processors should i look for?

>>57963459
Dude, I am using SolveigMM Video Splitter, and I have zero issues with cutting an mpeg video of any format with it using an i3. If you are using software that re-encodes the parts you keep, you've been doing it wrong, because that decreases quality and needs the horsepower you lack.

i'm using the same splitter. but after i edit a few videos, it has trouble generating the thumbnails when i zoom in. i have a shit ton of porn that i want to edit.

also, for best results without re-encoding, should i use frame or gop(k frame)?
>>
>>57961859
i've tried multiple ports and multiple cables, same problem
>>
>>57963616
I always close it when I finished editing a video and start it again. It's not like those two seconds will matter. Alternatively you could return to version 5 from 6, because 6 has issues...

Keyframe cutting means it doesn't cut at the actual frame you set to cut at, but at the adjacent frame. Depending on the keyframe settings, that's like three quarters of a second off. I always use "frame".
>>
>>57963651
but at the adjacent *key frame
Shit!
>>
>>57963651
sweet. thanks. never knew version 6 had issues. do you know if version 5 supports webms and mkvs? does yours also have trouble editing certain FLV's? i find it misaligns the audio sometimes. or with some videos sometimes it makes the video blotchy/glitchy. but other than that, solveigMM video splitter is hands down my favourite video editor.
>>
Can data be compressed infinitely? Could you compress 3.24TB of data in to 36 bits if you had a really good algorithm? Why or why not?
>>
I'm taking my IT high school exam in half a year. What are some absolute must know algorithms i should be comfortable with ?
>>
>>57963680
I only ever edited mp4 and avi, that's what all my porn is stored as. :P

When the audio is misaligned, it means, that you probably can't get away with a split without reencoding. But that is only true for shitty file formats like flv, so yea, I'd suggest refraining from using that format.
>>
>>57963710
Parse the 3.24TB of data as a binary number X, then go find a stick and break it so that the remaining stick is exactly X of some unit of your choosing long. Then later you simply have to measure the stick and convert back to binary and you have your data.

>>
>>57963710
If it's 3.24TB of zeroes, or some other very simple repeating pattern, then maybe. Otherwise no. There is a limit to how much information can be contained in such a small amount of data. Though it's hard to say exactly what the lower limit is (and it varies depending on what the data in question is) logically it should be obvious that compression to this extent is impossible.

Well SMART doesn't report anything bad on them.
You just cheaped out and bought Seagate HDDs.

Multiple heads and platters spinning will make more noise(1TB or mode HDDs use multiple platters which is why they make more noise and are less reliable because they have more moving parts).

Dont worry your HDDs are fine, just loud.

No, not all all.

Kinda, both are loud anyway.

The point of getting WD HDDs is for reliability.
Seagate is reliable, but not paranoid tier reliable.
If there is a 10% price difference between them dont worry and get Seagate.

Posting for the odd chance that someone knows what i'm doing.

Currently trying to set up a PS2 emulator to play FF12 Zodiac Job System, but even after completely updating windows and manually uninstalling/reinstalling windows vc+++ redist i'm getting the same error. "The program can't start because api-ms-win-crt-heap-l1-1-0.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

Doing some research told me that's cause the installation is failing and to update windows and THEN install the vc+++ redist, but that didn't work either.

Suggestions?
