When did Youtube go to shit?

What is the best alternative?
>>
2007
>>
OP bump

when Google bought them

but seriously WHAT are some good alt video sites? There seriously aren't any?

I'm considering paying for RED
>>
Freedom of thought require free media.
Google is and have always been an enemy to freedom.
Youtube (centralized video streaming) is a bad design as you give the control to a single entity.
Switching to another service which uses the same model will have the same problems.

What we need is a federated video streaming service, but people are not willing to set that up and everyone wants to be a "youtuber" for some reason.

What you can do is use youtube-dl, use it to download your "subscribed" channels and watch them when and if you want to.
It doesn't solve the problem but it is the quickest fix I know of.
>>
>>57950774
A true alternative is vid.me. It's so much more responsive and relevant.
>>
Are there any youtube channels still around worth watching?
>>
>>57950774
vid.me is pretty good. I wish we could get big youtubers to switch.
>>
>>57950916
followup:
here is my script for YT specifically:
YTDIR=~/Videos/youtube/channels
function ytsubcribe(){
echo "This may take a while"
t=$(mktemp)
youtube-dl --download-archive $t http://youtube.com/$1 --skip-download --ignore-errors |
grep webpage |
cut -d : -f 1 |
cut -d [ -f 2 |
cut --complement -c 8 > $YTDIR/$1
rm $t
}
function ytupdate(){
cd $YTDIR
for i in $( ls -a *) ; do
youtube-dl --max-downloads 50 --download-archive $i https://youtube.com/$i --dateafter now-6months
done
mv -f *.* ../
cd -
}
>>
>>57950852
>when Google bought them
this. right after google bought them there was a huge content purge that followed by massive commercialization.

youtube went from a video sharing platform to another ad service.
>>
>>57950916
>everyone wants to be a "youtuber" for some reason.
>for some reason.
The reason is shekels. Don't you want some internet money?

Vimeo has better video quality, better video player, and non bloated better design but could use some touch ups

Maybe ot but does YouTube dl split an album into single songs? Or just downloads it as one track?

If you care about video quality, Vimeo.

If you care about revenue, go find the nearest church and start begging.
>>
>>57950852

If you get a google music sub it comes with youtube red by the way.
>>
>>57952094
if you download a channel, you get one file per video.
You can use ffmpeg to automatically convert it into a mp3 if you want.
ex of alias:
alias get_song="youtube-dl --extract-audio --audio-format mp3 --audio-quality 320k --ignore-errors -o '%(title)s.%(ext)s'"
>>
>>57952276
Why 320k? Isn't youtube's best quality 192k?

Google allowed YouTube to actually make money and then have better streaming quality. Early youtube had some of the worst compression so they could save money.

it is a flawed idea, multimedia is bad for the web.

There is none, though rumor has it that Amazon is preparing to launch a competetor of their own soon.

The moment that happens im throwing my full support behind Amazon, Youtube really needs a healthy dose of competition right now

if i wanted a place to upload stuff (art, animations, etc) but didn't have money to buy a domain name, buy server space, and set everything up; what would be my best option? by best option, i mean what can i do to ensure that the things i post will never be deleted/taken down/controlled by some third entity.

at this point, i'm thinking i should just make a neocities site and embed unlisted videos i've uploaded to youtube. they'll be invisible to youtube, but visible on the site. is that a good idea, or is there a better option?

dude, just copy from the stream what ever audiotrack is inside in its codec, i think its "demux" right, leave mp3 for the things you already have in that format

vid.me is the upcoming competitor. Facebook would be an alternative but it's algorithm is just as bad. Vessel WAS the alternative but rip.

Yet it was still better looking than Google's competitive service at the time. The only advantage google video had was videos longer than 10minutes.

The era of funny and famous Youtube Poops, good animations, no Pewdeadpis, retarded children, freedom and quality music is gone.
Now it's the commercialized era of Spiderman pooping on elsa while pregnant and getting monee for that while Pewdeadpiss tells retarded children that this is good and let's them breed, while listening to shitty nigger music with surged ballerinas and SJWs.

Google plus
YouTube heros
They kill animation. No more oney
Asvertiser can choose what content is supported
Braking the UI with updates
In subbing people automatically
Allowing false claims to go in challenged
No customer service
No help with claim
Automated systems that are broken i.e. Bad flagging system

I think the problem is that before smartphones got wide spread using a computer was still "difficult" and "expensive" enough to filter out a good amount of retards and poorfags. After smartphones became widespread, they became so cheap and easy to use that retards and poorfags from third world countries got access to the internet.

the poorfags thing, not really. i have been under the poverty line or close and still had a way to connect. now any asshole with a 10 dollar handheld can connect and spread their garbage from a hotspot or from a shitty cell plan.

as for the third world, they're really not a problem. as usual in america, we have something good but then it gets saturated with garbage. e.g. Television.

Believe it or not, I honestly think Google needs to gain even more control over YouTube. That's the only way to fix it.
So far, Google has been treating YouTube as a "pet project," they own it on paper, yes, but in practice they basically let them do whatever they want. YouTube is shitting its own pants and Google is really not doing anything to intervene. YouTube is virtually functioning as a separate company at this point.

Google needs to start tightening YouTube's reigns, otherwise it's just going to spiral even further out of control. They just need to start communicating better.
