Hey /g/uys, looking to buy my first thinkpad. Will probably install arch on it. Budget is around $200. Will just be used for school, work, programming, nothing heavy. Any recommendations? was thinking about this:

buy
t420 or x220

X220 with an IPS display and a nice battery
OR
T430 (t420 if keyboard is important) - these have high dpi monitors but shit viewing angles and colors

Did you read the buyers guide? If not, fuck off and read it before asking for purchasing advice.

I think OPs should be able to autosage their threads.
To sum up my experience: T420 has the best keyboard, T430 has the USB 3.0 ports, X220 has a good reputation, and you check if the ThinkPads would be easily compatible with Libreboot, if you consider running Linux on it (but that's not a problem, Libreboot doesn't impact your Linux use). You need specific dual-core Intel processors to run Libreboot on a T400 series.

* you should check, my mistake

I did read the buyers guide, yeah

Jake, I suggest going with the t430 and putting Solus on it instead of Arch. Also upgrade to an SSD if you can and maybe add more RAM.

Do you guys think this is a good deal?
https://www.amazon.com/Thinkpad-X220-12-5-128GB-4G/dp/B005SSQ1UC
buy a dell latitude, they are all good and the newer ones have better keyboards than the newer thinkpads
they are also cheaper and more durable than thinkpads

The thing with used thinkpads is the condition they are in, if you get a beat up one it won't last. That beign said, if the one in your link is in good condition go for it.

Have any recommendations then?
