How does "friendly" stop me from doing rude? Is it physically compelling me to do so? I am I contractually obliged to do so when I'm using this site? Is there anything that states I can't go against whatever notion of "friendly" you have dreamt up in your head? As far as I'm aware I didn't sign anything when making my first post in this thread.

Don't even consider posting this bullshit if you can't answer all of this.

You are fucking retarded, just saw the second part.
Who defines "useful" here? How can you possibly know if someone is "useful" when he doesn't have an account? What is the objective measure of "useful" that every single poster here has agreed to? I assume I missed some kind of registration process which explains the terms and asks me for my agreement if I want to post here.

And how can you stop me from being unfriendly if I didn't sign a contract with you and I'm not breaking 4chan rules?
Please take your retarded bullshit to some other site, reddit.com would be a good choice for someone like you.

I have a systemd service which basically triggers a program when my computer resumes from suspend. I have a question about the type of service this needs to be, I currently have it to Type=oneshot but it doesn't seem to be working all the time so I am wondering if this would cause the service to work for the first suspend and not for future suspends because it is oneshot?

windows babby/linux noob here

I am looking to put Arch Linux on my computer as a dual boot with windows. I have installed ubuntu before and it was pretty straightforward: just put the iso on a USB stick with a program and install it

The Arch Linux wiki's guides on this are not straightforward at all, at least not for a noob like me.

How do I just put the iso on a USB stick and then install the partition?

But all of this had been debunked countless times in these threads. Stop posting this, or are you perhaps a bot which replies to anything mint related? I'm starting to think that's the case.
>>
>>57950341
if it's debunken, then why does the blacklist still exist? https://github.com/linuxmint/mintupdate/blob/master/usr/lib/linuxmint/mintUpdate/rules and why do they still highjack package names?
>>
>>57950255

You seem to write in a mongrel version of English, use American English instead which is the best fork of it. The correct version would be "debunked"
You can choose all updates to be installed so that isn't an issue. The second one has been debunked multiple times too and they don't do it as much so it wouldn't cause a problem, especially for new users who this distro is mainly aimed at.
Now please refrain from replying to me as I am 100% sure at this point that you are a bot.
>>
>>57950407
luckily there are search engines and people who care can research the truth
>>
>>57950432
Exactly, so you can just stop with your pathetic attempts at posting the same debunked articles over and over again.
Mint is the best for newcomers and they can easily confirm that via a simple internet search.
Now thank you for your "time", bot.
>>
>>57950448
What makes Mint better for newcomers compared to Ubuntu?

>>57950381

>>
>>57950407
While you're right that Mint doesn't forbid installing "dangerous" and "unsafe" packages, I'm asking myself how it comes that packages from Ubuntu LTS, a stable distro, are considered "dangerous" on a 99% Ubuntu copy. Why do users need to choose between getting security updates and a stable system?

Why even go for all the hassle? Just install Ubuntu with Cinnamon.
>>
>>57950464
It has an easy driver installation, has a lot of stuff preinstalled and doesn't break as often, for new users that is.
>>57950483
Literally irrelevant. If you can install them it doesn't matter if even the most stable stuff is called "dangerous".
>Why do users need to choose between getting security updates and a stable system?
You don't though, you can install all packages. Stop spreading your insane lies.

What hassle? Is clicking 3 check boxes a hassle for you? You should stick to windows in that case. It's more suitable for people with your intelligence.

I won't reply unless you prove you aren't a bot in your next post.
>>
>>57950553
show me how you install mdm - Utilities for single-host parallel shell scripting, on Mint, protip: you can't because https://github.com/linuxmint/mdm
>>
>>57950580
Irrelevant for new users. Chances are 99% of them don't know what that is.

Prove that you aren't a bot or I won't reply next time. Good job setting it up to trick new users into not installing something that isn't suited for "single-host parallel shell scripting"

If a distro doesn't use the command line it should suck right? Fuck off.
>>

New users don't care about being a distro being "bloated" as you say. If you love installing everything from the command line since you feel like such a hacker/programmer when doing so then go ahead, but please don't trick new users into doing that.
>>

I'm running KDE Neon and have been having problems with my wi-fi cutting out at random. I've had similar problems with other *buntus. It used to happen on W7 but, out of nowhere, it suddenly stopped happening at all. The most I've been able to get as far as info on what's causing this is from the notification itself, where it says "device failed."

What should I try in order to see what's causing this? It's happening far more in KDE Neon than in any other distro I've tried.

bro is a simplified man/info tool which plays on the word man, which could also refer to the gender and by getting it wrong, they are saying that what they provide is a dumbed down version and you should not expect bro pages to be as informative as man pages.

Man is also often a reference to mankind or humans in general, if that offends you then tough chickens.

Free software means software that respects the user's freedom.

There are four essential freedoms that the user of software should always have:

Freedom 0 is the freedom to run the program however you wish.
Freedom 1 is the freedom to study the source code of the program and change it to make the program do as you wish.
Freedom 2 is the freedom to distribute copies of the program to others when you wish. This includes republication of the program.
Freedom 3 is the freedom to distribute copies of your modified versions to others when you wish. This includes republication.

If you have all four of these essential freedoms, then the program is free software, which means that the social system of the distribution of the program is an ethical system that respects the freedom and community of the users.

If one of these freedoms is missing, then the program is proprietary software, meaning that it keeps the users divided and helpless, and gives the developer power over the users. This is an injustice. Proprietary software should not exist and should not be used.

If you want to have freedom, the only way you can have it while using computers is by rejecting proprietary software.

There was a nice comparison of all solutions, albeit few years old at this point.

One of the few things I remember from it is the comparison of learning curves.

From easiest to hardest it went like
grsecurity < apparmour < selinux.

Personally I'd go with grsecurity but then again you will be forced to patch the kernel yourself, since not many distros come with it by default. Gentoo does.

And apparmour comes by default on ubuntu and can be easily implemented on debian and such.

Choice is up to you but If I had the time I'd probably go with grsec.

>There are four essential freedoms that the user of software should always have:
No, there is a list of "oughts" and "demands" that some fat pedophile insists on having,so he dosent have to actually code anything him self and steals others source code.

RMS is basically a homeless loser who hasn't made any real contributions in the last 20 years. He is still super butthurt that Linux beet HURD (but hey, HURD just got basic sound support in 2016!) and basically tries to claim Linux because Linus used GCC and the GNU coreutils. He survives on the charity of others and speaking engagements where he spouts his insane, paranoid, philosophy. Basically he won't be happy until all the programmers are homeless hackers like him and all the companies are shut down. How people are supposed to support themselves and their families in that scenario aren't things he has to deal with because he is basically a permanent grad student. He does make some good points about privacy, but for him, there is no middle ground. Anything that may reduce your privacy even the slightest bit (like movie recommendations on Netflix) is evil according to him, and must be destroyed. In a lot of ways he show classic signs of mental splitting, which is a classic symptom of mental illness. To top it off, when he does write code, he does so in the style of the awful GNU style guide which is a crime against humanity IMHO.

>>57952189
so when can i expect them and what laws did i break?
im subject to alaska state law and us federal law as of right now
what did i violate exactly?
>>57952203
no... the linux kernel is TRASH
its not made by gnu
use gnu/hurd instead its a full GNU+GNU system
>>
new thread when? :3

Why the fuck doesn't debian package grsec patched kernel in stable?
Only sid is available. Makes no fucking sense.
>>
>>57952235
yes...
use gnu/hurd instead linux is so trasshy
post screenshots
>>57952241
use gnu/hurd it has it lmao
>>
>>57952216
Porche kernel does have sound support, no one in porche made tires yet. Do you fail to talk to people irl? You are showing signs of a brain dead autismo
>>
>>57952251
wut
>>
>>57952241
Why would it? I mean, it's sjwbian. Use gentoo if you need grsec. Use gentoo-hardened for your kernel sources and use the hardened profile for hardened compiling which you won't get on sjwbian.

I meant wheel*

Arch has grsec patched kernel too you know
>>
People who know absolutely fuck all about linux are destroying these threads.
>>
>>57952256
but it doesn't have wheel support either...
it doesnt have tire support to go with that wheel support anyway so it wouldn't matter... what a great kernel it is. truly a work of art
>>57952278
no, i don't wanna accidentally offend someone there
>>57952287
yeah? does it have hardened compiling as well?
no? hm.... then why did you post this? surely you didn't think i implied gentoo was unique in its grsec patched kernel and you read the second part about hardened compiling right?

Anyone know if I'll have issues with an M720 or MX Master on linux? I don't care about the bluetooth compatability as long as everything like DPI switching and side buttons work as well as receiver compatability.
>>
>>57952325
show me the commands to recompile EVERY SINGLE package on your system with hardening enabled (pie + ssp and other hardening flags)
you can use a maximum of 2 commands
>>
> dd an iso to a usb stick
> can't write anything else to the usb stick
> mount -o remount, rw
Does not werk, why ? How can I change that ?
>>

emerge is the default package manager on every distro? nope...
>>

I thought you were someone else. I wasn't talking about hardened sources at all. My bad.

I think you pushed too hard

I wasn't and i'm not talking about them
i'm talking about hardened compiling of your packages
