This used to be the thing that prevented me from switching over to mpv, but then I discovered unified remote.

A custom mpv remote is really comfy. There are a few drawbacks in comparison to a standalone mpc hc remote app, such as needing window focus for the remote to work, lack of integration and having to make the remote youself. However, at any time you can enable mouse integration and just use your phone as a trackpad/keyboard giving you lots of options.

I prefer mpv to MPC but I don't see any reason not to use software that isn't updated, especially modular software like MPC, it plays videos, doesn't crash, and has no known security flaws, what patches does it need? Even if it can't render the latest files out of the box a plugin can be used for that which people do anyway with MPC.

It's like people don't know what updates are for or how software is made. No flaws to fix is a good thing not a bad one.

What the fuck could you possibly need a GUI for in a media player primarily aimed at video? Do you use the volume bar in VLC or MPC to control volume? Probably night; I'd guess you use or bound that to the mouse wheel. Do you use the pause button or full screen button, or do you press space and alt+enter? Again, likely the latter. mpv doesn't need an OSD or GUI any more than the one it currently has. If you don't like the bindings for something, you can change it very easily with inputs.conf. Otherwise the shortcuts are pretty intuitive. "f" for fullscreen toggle; "s" and "S" for screenshots with and without subtitles; "p" and space for play/pause; "q" for quit; etc.

Then you're a fucking idiot. It's not littered with garbage like a conf or ini file in a videogame or other program. There is plenty of documentation on what everything does, and if you're really stuck you can post in the mpv thread and people usually help you.
