music trackers in general are stupid
They're basically just a complicated archival system
>>
>>57944221
Post WW1 Germany tried to print of money to pay off its reparations and consequently money was worthless and used as toilet paper/starting fires.

The same issue will be present on Apollo as there is so much buffer in circulation that people don't need to seed or upload anything and can simply hit and run at will, so they can download much more than they upload. It will not be an indication of a productive private tracker user who can contribute and seed for long times on other trackers so trackers will probably ban their invites from being distributed on their forums (like with how it's easy to survive on MAM so it has a miles long banlist of trackers that are forbidden to offer.)

Missed the PTH announcement last night but I assume we all agree the tracker is as good as dead now?

The only way they've left for people to get upload credit is through uploading torrents, but no one is snatching torrents because the majority of users don't have enough upload credit. How is 25 FL tokens meant to help that?

I don't really care cos I got in before the freeleech and have a big buffer, but this is going to disincentivise people from uploading longterm, right?
>>

>>57944556

PTP is practically closed at the moment. User cap is 30K, user base is around 35K. In any given month, usually about 250-500 users are disabled meaning you're looking at maybe a year or more where PTP accepts no new users.

>>57944721
It's usually social outcasts who have nothing to do but seek approval on the internet. "TORRENT MASTER" and a few TB of buffer next to it is their satisfaction.
>>
>>57944721
Remember when What went down, then replacement sites started popping out, and only a select few would get invited to them? Those were those people
>>
>>57944711
You don't understand the extent of the ratio economy's problem if you think 25 FL tokens are going to give people sufficient buffer for the future to download with impunity. WCD's economy was far from perfect, but at least they had people with big enough buffers who could autosnatch because they'd exploited previous freeleeches. This meant that people would upload new torrents because they knew they were guaranteed at least a couple of snatches and a boost to their ratio.

Amazes me that some people here probably spend 12 hours a day on trackers but still haven't grasped how things work properly.
>>
>>57944739
I was in early on WCD and it was a lot more like XNX than PTH. PTH reminds me of how Waffles started off but with even more clueless staff.
>>

ok, but they already have 99.99% if not 100% of everything they're ever going to listen to? why put in the time then? pure autism
>>
>>57944752
So you expect them to farm out buffer until an undetermined amount of users decide to grant benevolence across the tracker by auto-downloading everything?

And you don't think that indicates a flaw in the system itself?
>>
>>57944769
Maybe they enjoy it. Maybe they buy a release for themselves and rip it for their friends and as it's ripped they just upload it.
>>
>>57944752
Autosnatchers for 2016 releases are already in place on PTH (though for FLACs only, I think). It's just as easy/hard to get ratio as it was on What.
>>

>>
>>57944267

Comparing ratio inflation with fiat money inflation is not proper. When there are more dollars in circulations every individual dollar loses it's value because people tend to have more and are thus willing to spend more for things they need.

With ratio buffer, if you have 100MB buffer, you can always get 100Mb worth of download. The only case where you can spend more buffer than what you're downloading is requests were you can spend as much buffer as you want on anything assuming it's not already on the site.

The fact that buffer has this intrincic property within the system means that there will always be an incentive for people to gain more if for no reason other than e-penis bragging rights.
>>
>>57944777
Sure, but since they're not going to overhaul the shitty system they use they should be trying to optimise it within the present confines.

I don't think that's the best way to optimize it is to inject 10000TB of buffer into the economy like X*X has decided to do. What managed to maintain a decent balance, to the point where 1GB of Buffer = $1.

If we want to go with the hard economy currency analog then it needs to be balanced & ramped up slowly instead of doing 2 week long ratio farms. Otherwise you deal with overinflation of a currency which won't ever expire among the people it's disproportionately given to (seedcucks with 100TB of Jazz traffic).

What is even the incentive for uploading under this system? It's ratioless, so you don't need it for the buffer. It just gives you a torrent you have to maintain for all eternity or you'll get banned, apparently.

Well, since it's ratioless, you don't have to seed other people's torrents and can seed your own uploads more. This way all the torrents will be seeded, and maybe with a bit tighter hnr rules they will still have multiple seeds.

1 week gives you plenty of time to rip the media again. Warning/ban is too harsh, I agree, but this is just a concept up for improving.

>Yes they've tanked their economy. What now?
quite a lot of these people with TBs of buffer won't be satisfied for a while, and will keep raising their e-peen.
then there's people like me who will be basically seeding forever, because they have a shit connection. the retention won't be as good, but i think it will be ok.
it is only 2 weeks or so in and it's just about getting shit uploaded now. there will be new users, (who knows what they will up their limit to) absurd bounties on requests, etc.
>>
>>57945005

>>
>>57945004

>>
>>57945027
nostre.am should rapidly figure out how to become the BTN of music if it wants any chance at all of re-entering the ring, since it's apparent the other whatabe's aren't going to do it
>>
>>57945005
But there is zero incentive to upload any torrents. It gives you literally nothing. All you end up with is a seeding obligation until the universe ends, and no pros.

>1 week gives you plenty of time to rip the media again
What if you lost the media you ripped it from? What if you didn't rip it yourself, but downloaded it from somewhere that's no longer available.
>>
Why are people talking shit about PTH's economy? How is it different from WCD's?
>>
>>57945024
Problem with bounties is that everyone has an enormous amount of upload so in order to sway uploaders from filling x request over y request people will have to dump a whole lot more.

Which is why in virtual games premium items are worth so much more than farmable items.

The upside to inflation is that people spend more money. That's exactly what you want when your economy is filled with people not spending any money, like in a newly started website.

It's absolutely not an universally optimal system since there is no proper incentive for long term seeding however. I think PTPs BP system wins that category. With what.cd I think the real problem was that they simply scared people out of using their accounts because they knew that getting buffer on the site was such a massive pain.
>>
>>57945041
>add harsh HnR rules
>go soft economy (BP incentivies, scaling depending on seed length) or ratioless
>give a large initial buffer if ! ratioless (scaling depending on your target qualities, more for FLAC/320/V0 focused tracker a la PTH)

People will always upload stuff. Also you could have some sort of "adopt a torrent" system. The uploader could lose the upload but also wouldn't have to maintain it anymore.
>>
>>57945160
>I find films with only the 1080p seeded or something. I found the most dead torrents on PTP.

Yeah I've never had this problem, and I do watch at least 100 movies a year. It's my only movie tracker.
>>
>>57945080
I don't know man, I uploaded a perfect FLAC and it got autosnatched. Plus there's a thread where you ask for your shit to get downloaded
>>
I don't think that Xanax is going to be cabal.

Probably a huge part of the reason people uploaded was because they wanted to get into WCD's huge library of other invites, it was the only gateway tracker that was reliable.
>>
>>57945170
>People will always upload stuff
If that's your belief, you don't really need any incentives at all.
>>
Was What.cd cabal?
>>
>>57945189
Fair assessment.
>>
>>57945078
>The upside to inflation is that people spend more money. That's exactly what you want when your economy is filled with people not spending any money, like in a newly started website.

The question is whether that actually happens. There are a few reasons I ask that:

1) The people who farm the most buffer are likely to have the most to upload, aside from /ptg/ /pyramid/ farmers. PTH suffered heavily from this in its first week due to 90% of its userbase being TMs uploading shit.
2) Unlike money, there is an actual cost to spending buffer. HDD space is finite unlike a bank account. I still download V0s @ PTH for this reason. Connections as well, but that's mostly moot if you own a seedbox.
3) Some people don't actually want to download music. They want to play the /ptg/ MMO.

Another issue is the rate of which people who want to download music actually do so. I have 850G upload @ PTH and I downloaded MAYBE 2-3 albums a month off WCD when it was up. But I won't speculate on that.

>It's absolutely not an universally optimal system since there is no proper incentive for long term seeding however

The incentive for seeding was a mix of things:
- Longterm buffer (which was negated entirely by Auto DLs, since you'd probably get the lifetime of an obscure band out of the first 15 minutes)
- Counting towards classes (which PTH decided to do away with for fuck knows what reason) which gains access to the Invites forums, giving you access to other trackers.

>With what.cd I think the real problem was that they simply scared people out of using their accounts because they knew that getting buffer on the site was such a massive pain.

I know I sure did. I had an acc on What for 8 years before it got taken down and I barely used it for the first 6, until I decided to commit to uploading weeb shit. I don't think that was their intention but it was the result.

Sorry for the rambling btw. It's pretty late in the morning.
>>
>>57945196
On the other hand, Apollo/Xanax has the advantage of being easier to get into though. If Apollo is successful and people vote with their quality uploads and request filling the cabal might be forced to recognise it if PTH doesn't want to go out on a limb and offer interviews and stuff.

It's all up in the air.
>>
>>57945179
half of PTP is dead
>>
>>57945195
Name the cabal music tracker that did its job better than What, including having more content and having access to practically every cabal tracker at least at various points in time, if not fulltime.
>>
>>57945192
What do you mean? There are incentives such as user classes which keep people uploading. I'm trying to think of a way to keep those torrents with 0 seeds from happening.

WCD's economy was fueled by a high number of newcomers that got themselves disabled due to leeching too much, and by fairly frequent staff pick freeleeches. The latter resulted in high amounts of buffer for seedbox users, which then allowed them to spend it on requests and on snatching everything uploaded in the current year (I imagine this resulted in extra buffer on average, but you need a decent amount of buffer to make sure you don't go on ratio watch).

PTH's userbase is currently small and has little people interested in downloading, because they either don't need anything or because they don't have the buffer to do so. The number of stuff being uploaded compared to stuff being downloaded means that it's not smart to autosnatch anything, because you'll just kill your buffer. The sitewide freeleech that resulted in tons of buffer for a small percentage of users doesn't make its way as efficiently to the minor users because of this.

The WCD model, and what PTH seems to be going towards, is flawed in my opinion. It creates a system with very large buffer inequality, and those with slow connections rely on the charity of those with large buffer. Rather than having freeleeches that benefit those with faster connections more than those with slower ones, for the purposes of trying to fix ratio economy, it would be better for the site to reward people directly, rather than relying on the charity of those with large buffer. This is often done with bonus points, but it could also be done with something like giving buffer for uploading torrents. There is very little incentive to upload torrents on PTH at the moment, because they're likely to go unsnatched. This especially applies to more obscure material. If you could guarantee that your upload would get snatched (or you'd get rewarded with a similar amount of upload), it should increase the amount of uploads people do. This is essentially what autosnatchers did, but a more direct approach.
>>
>>57945214
Being a best at something doesn't mean you're cabal.
>>
>>57945215
I don't think people will want to upload when you institute death squads for not seeding for all eternity.
>>
Just a psa:
xnx, pth & notwhat are all made by former wcd staff

They all goes their separate ways when wcd got taken down:
>some who think wcd is raided because theres too many members and some of them are not careful enough, they didn't agree with interviews, etc, off to create PTH.
>some thinks wcd just got unlucky, and a new tracker with slightly better structure and friendlier providers is enough. These people made xnx
>others are sysop guys who thinks really the only reason wcd got taken down is because the security is just lacking. These people decided to take it slow and pick the most autistic server providers who have servers in their cave somewhere, and make notwhat

So there it goes, i hope a little bit of inner knowledge can help you guys decide which new what to use

PTH is deathly scared of being taken down whilst Xanax is being much braver with their reg windows and things.

If XnX can get its shit together with proper interviews, avoid getting taken down and doesn't wreck the tracker economy it will win with the sheer number of members.

XnX has the gateway aspect of WCD but not the invites and PTH looks to be cabal/have invites but not the population who can upload/buy music.

Former What members would probably select PTH out of familiarity. XnX just feels like it has way too much buffer and people have gossiped about it too much as well as its hate brigade.

Between XnX and PTH people talked about PTH the most and XnX users tend to talk more about PTH whereas PTH users rarely talked about XnX.

However, if XnX interviews people will definitely try to get in and if their interview is good enough it will ensure that quality members get in, cementing its place as What's replacement not PTH. If PTH plays shrinking violet, it will lose.

WCD: scarcity of buffer, lots of music, an interview to select for good members which is relatively easy and plentiful good invites to other good trackers I feel were the FUNDAMENTAL characteristics of WCD.

If XnX can at least get the 'lots of good music' and good members in torrent count overtaking PTH it might win the invites unless giving invites is going to be permanently banned.

I seem to remember it was around the time when a certain user's BTN profile was linked to on /ptg/ and 312c banned all the users who recently viewed the user's BTN profile.

Several users were banned on BTN but they were later unbanned but their PTP accounts all stayed banned.

****WARNING****

/ptg/ bros this is a typical example of /marking/ attempt. if you go to any of those sites and search for that specific shit your account will get a note of /ptg/ visitor and you will be reported to ALL trackers, both on which you are and on which you aren't to be denied entry later. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE

The sysop of Bibliotik is a great person who used to answers questions on /ptg/ all the time and told us when people were being rused with markings.

MAM is also super comfy.

Bookfags rejoice.

Is Oppaitime really a honeypot, or is it just a meme? Doesn't seem like there is any actual proof.

Whats the point of the tracker? I mean is there really THAT much hentai that they need a separate tracker for it?

>XnX users tend to talk more about PTH whereas PTH users rarely talked about XnX.
pth users hacked nostream
pth users tried to hack apollo (freeleech tokens)
they actively spammed all threads and boards on apollo forums with hundreds of "curry" messages
they uploaded fake albums and transcodes on apollo
pth users ctcp flooded apollo irc

meanwhile apollo users chill and share music

There's a lot of niche stuff that never gets upload, and even more that has faded into the abyss due to the Japanese being utter dogshit at piracy and insisting on using shitty methods with no retention for everything. So yeah, a tracker based on that niche makes a lot of sense, but unfortunately OT really doesn't have the userbase to capitalize on it yet, so it's still fairly useless.
