Will the Moto X Force (DROID Turbo 2 for americans) last me a while, even though it was released about a year ago?
The alternative I've boiled down to is Xperia X Compact, which was just released the other month. It's smaller, which I like, and obviously newer. But it's at least $130 more.

Is it worth getting the newer phone (1 year difference)? Will it last longer?
>>
>>57945043
Yep. There's planned update to Nougat so don't let go of it yet. It's not worth it to get a new phone if your current device is still useable i.e. it still gets Android updates straight from the manufacturer.
>>
>>57945186
I mean I don't have a phone at all and I'm looking to get one of the above mentioned.
But your point remains, of course. Thanks for the input.
I knew The Moto got upgraded to 6.0, but not that it would get upgraded to 7.0 now too. That's pretty neat.
>>
Front camera, battery life and actual dual SIM (not dual SIM or SD+single SIM).

A good front camera is something most phones are missing, many have a great back camera but a shitty front one. Sadly most reviews seem to only mention the back camera. I videocall a lot and use the front camera more than the back one.

>>57942526
Display no longer matters to me, they are all good enough. I'm not saying it's not very important, just that they are all "good enough".

>>57942576
This is obvious. No SD slot no deal.

>>57942586
>>57942726
Don't care about "design" at all. If the headphone jack is at the top and the USB port is at the bottom then that's enough design for me.

>>57942753
>>57942900
Case works like a stand too, and it protects the screen when it't in your pocket. Why wouldn't you use one?
>>
>>57943364
Reminder the Zuk shill keeps using "NOUGAT IS COMING" to shill even though he's on /g/ and the majority of us are on custom roms which have it already. Dumb Zuk fuck.
>>
>>57942526
Not sure about feature, maybe longevity but no [smart]phone has that nowadays. I will however not consider any phone less than:
>3 GB RAM, 32GB ROM
>SD card slot
>pretty much it

I don't know much about CPUs but I'm sure there are some that are important to avoid there as well.
>>
>>57945293

>>
>>57945309
Longevity, or lack of it, combined with technical progress is why I use sub-$200 phones. Even if a phone lasted 5 years... would you still use it after 3? or 4?

3GB RAM and 32 GB storage is the current standard for $120-ish chink phones. If it's 2GB/16GB then it's old and got an older SOC. Can you mention any brand flagship $500-700 phone that's 3 years old that's 3GB/32GB? Or any 3 year old phone that's worth using today?
>>
>>57945708
I don't know much about the phone market, but I can honestly say that if my Glaaxy s4 mini wasn't completely dead, I wouldn't be looking at a new phone. In other words yes, I would still use a phone for 5 years as long as it was functioning (and by functioning I mean literally anything more than a paperweight).
>>
Hello /spg/, I've been restless in looking for a phone with:
>nice battery life
>decent custom ROMs support
>mobile bands compatible with T-Mobile in Poland
>around $200 price tag

Devices considered so far:
>Nexus 5X
>Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro

The Nexus has a laughable battery compared to Note 3 Pro and lacks microSD support while having some of the best community and manufacturer support out there + a nicer chassis. USB-C on the Nexus is still rather a con since the support for it is almost negligible with the ShillBar-equipped Applel Memebook Pro having to force the connector's exclusive use upon it's (l)users.

I'd really appreciate some other options
>>
>>57945758
This.
Only reason I upgraded from a nexus 5 to a zuk z2 pro was my nexus was starting to drop call signal randomly and nothing I did would fix that.

Otherwise I would have at least kept it for 4 years.

The real source >>57946367 behind the Zuk shilling shitposts is a /csg/ shitposter and CP permaban evader also known as Lithu, a Lithuanian with an autistic aversion to popular and well liked products.

With /csg/ he tried to get people to stop buying MIXZA Shark Micro SD's by pretending a single picture of a shark card being pulled out before its finished bench was proof that all sharks were shit, he hates Discord with a passion and to prove his autistic point he would hang out in it for months and post out of context screenshots of chats, he still tries to shitpost against BM800s and now he's gone anti-Xiaomi and constantly shills Zuk phones.

You can easily trace back his shitposts through the /g/ archive because he's dumb enough to keep using the same couple of shitposting pics he has.

Requesting purchasing advice

>What I have
Moto G 2013 16GB

It's still.. okay-ish. I do my daily things with it, nothing too much. Own it since December 2013.

>What do I do with my phone
- Email
- Spotify (lot of offline playlists)
- Browse
- Standard apps such as cinema, T mobile, etc. No games

>What I look for in a new phone
- Decently affordable (price/quality is more important, imo)
- Between 4.5 and 5 inch, preferably
- At least 32GB of storage
- Durable: I need it to last at least 2-3 years

Now I was looking at the
>iPhone SE 64GB / iPhone 6S 64GB
>Sony Xperia X Compact
And also, in order if I just say 'fuck it':
>OnePlus 3T

Wat do? Do I wait until Mobile World Congress announces new midrange SoC's or do I just bite the dust now and get a decent phone that will last me for a long time? I'd not necesarilly want the OP3T since it's so huge, but the price/quality balance is really huge.

please shill me on the pros and cons of your midrange phone providing it has the following

>decent, responsive experience
>32gb or more space or SD card expandability (preferably the latter)
>close to stock android, or if not what the benefits of your bloat are

I'm not interested in ricing and am fully invested in the google botnet for work calendars etc. but I go on long work trips and need a lot of space for music and podcasts. a decent camera would be nice but it's not a deal breaker. I'm not interested in flagships having owned them for years and realising you get little extra these days for the extra £300

Now, get either the S7 or the S7E depending on your budget, make sure they are the exynos versions as they are more efficient with battery, are more powerful than the snapdragon ones and have more community support, i wouldnt wait for the S8 since these gooks are taking the applel route by removing earphone jack, on top of it lacking the big ass button all samsung phones have, no bezels and maybe not also having an sd slot.

What the S7E has over the S7 is being bigger, having that curved screen and a bigger battery (3000 vs 3600 mAh), it doesnt justify the 200 dollars difference, at least in my opinion.

Unlock bootloader, install custom recovery, go to recovery, do the required wipes (app and data, data, cache, dalvik cache), choose install from sd card, select the custom rom, let it install, hit reboot (since you dont want gapps), let it start properly it will take about 10 minutes or so but if it takes more than half an hour you should take out the battery and try again, after it reaches the homescreen wait another 10 minutes and then reboot, now you can finally install all your apps on it, f-droid for starters, since you didnt flash gapps you wont be able to use maps or youtube but there are foss alternatives so its okay, this is all you have to do unless the thread specifies you have to wipe something else, not wipe something or backing up your imei/fm radio

Fucking up would be dirty flashing or installing a rom not meant for your device, in this case its just a softbrick which means youll have to find the original rom for your device, drivers for your device, taking out the battery and sim, flash it through odin and unlock bootloader and root to try flashing a custom rom again

I am T-Mobile customer too

What you can do is get 3 of your friends and go in on a family plan for four people, or pick up a SIM card at walmart and do the $30/mo plan. Your data cap is 5 GB for the month but you only get 100 minutes for the month, anything over is 10 cents in a minute.

You won't get much confirmation with ZUK phones here. People call you shill immediately. It's pretty solid stuff. I'm using a ZUK z2 (not pro) for four months. There are lots of custom ROMs for it and as long you're not a murifag you're fine with it. But there'll be a ZUK edge or something with a snapdragon 821 6gb ram and shit soon. It will be the cheapest 821 for 390$.
Regarding software ZUK is breddy based. They release N for their first phone the ZUK 1(snapdragon 801) in a few days.

Hi guys i just bought a Moto G4 and i already downloaded the security patches available for it and updated just about every app that came by default that im going to use (camera, maps etc) while i disabled the rest, is it normal for the phone to not have a stock file explorer, launcher and gallery? I had the peregrine Moto G and that one did come with a file explorer (shitty but it was there), default android KK launcher (this one comes with google launcher by default) and moto gallery (just about the best stock gallery of any phone ive tried over the years), did i get a debloated used phone or is motorola now like this?
>>
>>57956295
Yeah that's normal, it's how moto is now.
There's no stock file explorer unless a manufacturer includes one themselves, Google now replaced the default Android launcher.
There should be a gallery app of some sort though, sure you didn't miss it?
>>
>>57956295
Yeah it's normal.

>file explorer
FX or Solid explorer.

>launcher
You don't need one but if you want anyway Nova launcher or Apex.

>gallery
Google photos or Piktures .
>>
>>57955199
OP3T has AMOLED and OIS.
Mi5P has IPS and no OIS.
Looking at, samples OP takes better photos.
It also does a little better in benchmarks.

I was also considering between Mi5P and OP3/3T, and as I also prefer AMOLED to IPS, those factors made me decide to get the OP (between 3 and 3T depends on the price difference I can find today, the equivalent of Black Friday in my country).
>>
>>57954141

>>
>>57956349
I see, and no i didnt miss it, tapping on an image opens the "documents" app and the gallery isnt hidden or disabled anywhere, i checked, same with video.

>>57956383
Im using Amaze, is Solid better than it? I forgot to mention but i already replaced the google launcher for nova prime/zooper and even set the homescreen to look like the pixel launcher, Piktures looks nice but im not sure if its worth it over Leafpic or even the stock motorola gallery i just found on some thread in xda.
>>
>>57956477

Anything but an old iphone, the pixel or any LG phone refurbished, used or brand new, HTC 10 or OP3T are the current best choices, you cant go wrong with xiaomi or motorola if your budget is tight, other brands to avoid would be BLU (legit botnet) and le eco (godly specs on paper, shit build quality, lack of sd slot and earjack and poor battery, just go on forums and see how many lelele phones with busted fingerprint scanners and broken back camera lenses are there)

Alright, /g/, I need some help. My Moto X (2014) is finally dying, battery time is pure dogshit (won't even last like half a day). The thing is I loved my Moto X, the best phone I've had, period, so I'm thinking on buying a new Moto.

What is the best option? I just want the same Moto X experience, but with more battery time and more powerful hardware.I just loved the design.

I'm between
>Moto X Style
>Moto Z
>Moto Z Play

I'd go with the Style, since it's the cheapest, but it's also the oldest. So yeah, I could use some opinions on it.
>>

>>57957871

>>
>>57957820
The moto X style has a faulty overheating snapdragon and the Z has no earjack or sd slot, id pick the Z play any day, even if its underpowered compared to the other two
>>
>>57957927
Then 1440p is a literal meme?
>>
>>57957871

Will you actually make use of the 1440p display aka will you use VR? If not, then it's not a dealbreaker, the 1080p AMOLED of the Z Play looks great as it is. Source: i have one.

And if you want battery time the Z Play is the best option, you can get at least 9h of SOT on stock, even more with the battery snap. Sound snap is great too, very underrated since no one mentions it. Hardware isn't the best out of the three you listed but it's good enough for common usage. Gaming is the last thing consider when i buy a smartphone, so it isn't a issue, it's a pretty quick and efficient cellphone all thing considered. Only downside imo is the camera is average, it has no OIS.

The Z Play is such an amazing cellphone imo, only chinkphones beat it on value, but unfortunately it's too much of a hassle to import one to where i live.

Moto X Style, best choice out there.

Only for LCD.
1440p is necessary for AMOLED cause everything is shitty pentile.
A 1080p pentile AMOLED screen has a true resolution equivalent to about a 780p IPS display.

is there any somewhat long lasting phone for $200 that isnt complete chink shit infested
>>

I'd say G4 play, since near to stock Android. Samsung doesn't do too well with phones that aren't their flagships
>>
Found out that the RN3P is just Android 5.1 and K6000 Pro has shit CPU while Zuk Z2 is too expensive for my budget ($120).

What's a good phone for me? Hoping for the Mi5C for $140 or less.

sorry to break it to you but it will have some shit tier xiaomi made processor with extra botnet. So it's not a good option.
>>

Have you considered maybe expanding your budget and saving up more or just getting the rmn3p and putting up with the buggy pajeet CM roms?

The zuk is only an extra 50 dollars more. You can do it.

You mean the Hasselblad? If that's the case, then no, it's shit. You're basically paying for the optical zoom. The sensor is mediocre, no better than the Z camera.

Get the redmi, or if you've got more space in your budget bump up to a zuk z2.

It costs more, but it's also pretty much better in almost every way.

In that case get the redmi 4 pro/prime.

Xiaomi are decent with updates, even if a little slow.

I want to buy an LG G4 but I want to make sure I can unlock the bootloader. LG's page says their bootloader unlocker only supports the models H850, H960A and the H815.

The best option price wise and frequency wise for me has the H815T model. Does anyone know if I can unlock its bootloader easily or what the best course to take is? I'm in Australia if that helps.

Isn't the zenfone 3 overpriced for the specs?

Get a 1+3, mi5s, axon 7, zuk z2 pro, or honor 8 if you're settling for that price point.

I found the Mi5 for $300 AUD among a bunch for $400. The Mi5s ones are all >$500 which is out of my range. I'll check out the zuk z2 then

Hey guys, want to buy from a trustworthy source yet you do not know what a trustworthy source looks like? This site is more known to be turstworthy compared to other sites like Gearbest or Greekbuying or GoodBang.
>>
>>57960138
The zuk z2 seems really compelling, especially for that price. The honor 8 is kind of out of my budget. Ideally I would be spending 300-350. If the zuk z2 is better than the mi5 then I'll probably look at that. Is the zuk z2 pro something worth considering?
>>
>>57960101
Zenfone 3 5.2" is way cheaper and on a lower tier than all that you mentioned. If he's considering Deluxe then you have a point.
>>
>>57960200
I just realized the z2 pro would be too expensive for me
>>
>>57960101
Seems pretty good for the specs? I'll be able to get it for a bit over $300 AUD when it next goes on sale.

SD625, 3gb RAM, expandable storage, FHD, good battery life, good camera, supports all the right bands where I live, good build quality etc.

How's the Honor 8?
>>
>>57958305
fuck no, decent qr builders do this

but it's something not on about at least 80% of android phones, since it's not something you generally find in most roms

If it impresses your parents who use android, then it's a good feature
>>
>>57960200
Zuk z2 is insane value for the price and you're going to get a nougat update in January for it.
Personally I love that's it's SD820 with 1080p just for the raw performance gain over flagships with 2k or 4k displays.

>>57960237
>>57960206
Hmm. For 300 it's a good phone, but currently it's not worth it imo. Great camera, but the rest of the specs are just standard for that price.

>>57960237
Honor 8 has a killer camera, On par with flagships like iphone and samsung thanks to the dual camera tech used, but the SoC is a bit behind. Scoreds ~90k in antutu, compared to the 145k of the zuk phones with a snapdragon 820.

Still performing really well though for.

I was tossing it up between the zuk z2 pro and honor 8, but I went with the z2 pro just because of aesthetics. The honor 8 is still a great option if you want a good camera.
>>
>>57960347
Yeah to be honest I would prefer a 1080p display. Seems pretty good so far. No cm or anything for it but I heard the UI is actually pretty customizable. Really sold on it I think
>>
>>57960383
Zuk z2 has roms, most are on zukforum instead of xda though.

I've heard resurrection remix is good. I wouldn't know, I'm still waiting for my z2 pro.

Will post a review when it comes in though.
>>
>>57950123
Redmi note 3 pro is superior
>>
Oh wow the ZuK shills are out in full force today, I'd rather buy a K6000 Pro. Although that's just my opinion.
>>
>>57959658
Try using their 'official' bootloader unlock...
>>
>>57960544
I've been looking around and I really like the zuk z2. Why do you prefer the K6000 pro?
>>
>>57960544
K6000 pro looks nice but the zuk seems like a much better and all rounder device.

Why would you prefer if to the zuk?
>>
>>57960544
>zuk shills
You think maybe it's just popular because It is what it is.

>cheap
>flagship specs
>decent build quality
> Gets updates

It's just a really good option at that price point. Cheaper AND better than a mi5.
>>
How many problems am I going to run into if I buy a zuk z2? I heard you don't get OTA updates and the UI can be in Chinese sometimes. I like the phone but I don't want to be hit with heaps of problems if I get one

Mi4c struggles to make it past 6 hours. Zuk z2 struggles to make it to 8 hours. It's still better.
Miui is also extremely aggressive with better battery management, to the point where it begins to fuck with basic functionality. That's partly why CM is so popular on the rmn3p.

http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Xiaomi-Mi-4c-Review_id4123/page/4

Plus you're not comparing the specs inside the phone. SD808 vs SD820, 2GB ram vs 4GB, 16GB storage vs 64GB, micro USB vs type c, etc.
