With 1080p 60fps in mind figured the best way to build a pc was around the GPU.
What's the best for running Battlefied, total war, etc. ? No bullshit (4k, VR, etc.)
First thought was rx 470

Definitely a thought. If 60fps @ 1920x1080 is all you're looking for, you're got a lot of options under $200. It's going to come down to preference and the cooling performance needs. Even down to a 1050 Ti is a good option.
Grab AMD if you can run DX12, grab an nVidia if you want lower heat and power consumption.
A 1050 Ti is supposed to be among the best value for the money right now. If you don't want nVidia, that's cool, bro. An RX 470 or even an overclocked RX 460 should cover what you need, too.

470 is top banana for perf/cost right now

I can never tell who has the most value/performance. I hear something different every day.
Fuck it.
>Rx 470
>Rx 480
>GTX 1050 Ti
>GTX 1060 3GB
These have the best value for their brands for under $200. Pick one, buy it, go play games.

>tfw already have an rx 480
>tfw want to into vr
fukkit i guess i just buy a second one on boxing day
one for me
one for waifu

If you're building fresh, RX 470. The 470 pulls 15A on the 12V rail and the 1050Ti (a non 6-pin version) pulls 8A, but the 470 performs on average 25-30% better for $20 bucks more. Honestly, the 470 is a shade off of the 390 with the recent driver updates.
If you want to buy some OEM computer then the 1050Ti. There exist low profile and single slot versions, and most don't need a 6-pin, and you get around 960 performance. There are some games with abnormal advantages (outliers) for both sides though. For example, Hitman runs really well on AMD but not nVidia (and Quantum Broken). Overwatch and GTA V run well on nVidia but not AMD.
i would say a RX 470 based on what your gaming needs, and the fact that you're building from scratch. Both GPUs have better value than the 1060 3 and 6GB as well as the RX 480.
>Overclocking my 980ti
>find a good core clock boost
>start increasing the mem clock
>+25 at a time, still climbing, no artifacts
>Valley score steadily decreasing
?

Checked, but the reason no one wants a 980 Ti anymore is because you can get a 1070 to, for general purposes, match it, and it's the same price (unless you luck the fuck out with a local vendor)

Rx 480 is vr ready tho
>>57942144
ya i but wanna do affinity multi gpu thing though
Dual Rx480s has the best scaling of any dual set up these days
