College student here.

Dual major in Political Science and Journalism. I'm struggling with finding the right device (laptop, 2 in 1, ThinkPad, etc) for writing/typing as top priority. Yes internal storage, RAM, are important but secondary to the actual feel of spending long Adderall fueled hours typing away on the device itself.

I'm thinking of pic related as a catch all for my needs. What does /g/ think about them?

Microsoft Surface Book (512 GB, 16 GB RAM, Intel Core i7, NVIDIA GeForce graphics)
>>
I have one, it is glorious for handwritten notes in onenote, but sometimes it can be clunky when detaching, other than the price I have no other complains
>>
>>57939152
Yeah 2200$ is a ton of booty for a laptop. What would you suggest in the 1000$ range? Typing comfort primarily not to hung up on stylus or TouchPad capapbilities
>>
>>57939067

use the fucking catalog
>>
>>57939067
Why make a thread without posting your needs you stupid fuck.

Literally why not get a chromebook? Why do you need RAM to type out a document.
>>
>>57939222
The entire first paragraph describes my needs you basic bitch. Typing comfort and fluidity primarily with the usual specs (ram, display, battery life, storage, etc) secondary. Being used for college/research/long hours typing)

Get dunked on.

Honestly, if you think the typing is most important I'd go to a store and try out the keyboard on every laptop you can find. Make sure to bring hand sanitizer.

>Political science and Journalism """major""" in undergrad
>Needs adderall

How the fuck do I know that you're a giant retard AND a pussy. I'm a medical student who is barely trying and I'm doing well without having touched the stuff. What the fuck is your justification for adderall? Are you a degenerate who just wants to predispose himself to schizophrenia for the fun of it?

And the fuck do you need anything beyond a pen and paper you cuck. Get a used chinkpad and type that shit out.

>>57939268
This just cements my view of you. Fuck outta here.

because they are the fucking future in a way that you can't understand until you use the hardware

Laptops for writers

Unless you're several against Apple like I am, there's literally no better feature risk comfy experience than a simple MacBook. Wouldn't get the MacBook air despite it being the cheapest. The screen is lower quality. I wouldn't want to look at it all day long especially at text.

If that's all you can say, you should probably take your leave. When the majority of folks in a thread are literally shitting on someone for being a faggot, you should probably reconsider where you stand.
>>
>>57939889
>>57939950
Again, not OP. But nah, you guys are still a bunch of pussies for being upset that someone has a different venacular.
>>

You don't seem to be grasping the issue at all.
>>
>>57939268
ouch you already came to /g/ with a thread asking for consumer advice and you are speaking like that
>>
>>57940144
Well then what's the issue brainiac? OP asked a question and defined his criteria in his OP. Someone replied like an idiot, then OP replied using wording that's incredibly offensive to /g/ apparently.

Looks to me like /g/ needs to stop being so sensitive. What am I missing?

If I have to explain this issue to you, you're just as retarded as OP.

Would you give a screaming, retarded brat whatever he wanted? We're not sensitive, we're just not spineless like you.
>>
>>57940350
"If I have to explain you wouldn't understand."

No I get it. Someone was too stupid to read the OP, so when they're corrected they're too prideful to say "oh whoops didn't see that", and instead go straight to "screaming retarded brat." Seems incredibly spineless to me to lack the basic communication skills to understand and admit your own fault.

But no. Continue to live in the echo chamber that is /g/ and believe you're somehow on a higher mental level than someone else because they told you to "get dunked on."

I hate this major.
>>
>>57940556

Just wait until you have to find a job with that major...
>>
>>57940530
Just drunk, telling the spineless to grow a pair.

>>57940524
Not OP, just an outsider that hasn't bought into the inferiority complex that is /g/.
>>
>>57939567
lol this guy thinks he's smart...
>>
>>57940636
You are drunk, poison clouds your mind and makes you think you're in the right when in reality you're as big of a faggot as OP.

OP is a degenerate fuck who can't do a simple humanities double major without the use of drugs and you're defending him after a childish outburst? Sure, the poster was in the wrong, but that doesn't mean that OP should have been a faggot. Why do you set double standards. Do you help people who don't deserve it on a regular basis?

>>57940655
Smarter than you friendo.
>>
>>57940688
I'm going to have the same thought when I'm sober. If alcohol changes who you are then you're just weak in your foundation.

Also, never said OP was right for the aderall thing (don't care actually), just that you're a judgemental pussy for making venacular your deal breaker. Or at least pretending it is.
>>
>>57939067
It's sad, really. The only options for a lightweight laptop with a hi-res non-widescreen resolution is a really expensive Surface Book, a really expensive Chromebook Pixel, a really expensive MacBook or a rare Thinkpad X62 mod.

I love programming and writing on my Pixel, but damn if I wouldn't have loved something cheaper as long as it had a screen like that.
>>
>>57940759
When the fuck did I mention vernacular? OP just acted like a faggot so we treated him like one.
>>
>>57940777
>non-widescreen
Sorry, I meant something other than 16:9 resolution only good for Youtube/movies
>>
>>57940786
You're the faggot actaully. But what do I know. I only know how to communicate with other human beings without throwing a child like temper-tantrum because someone used words I dont like.
>>
>>57940833
>I only know how to communicate with other human beings without throwing a child like temper-tantrum because someone used words I dont like.

This isn't exactly evident by how you're currently acting.

Nice dubs though, double standards aside (see what I did there?).
>>
>>57940688
sure you are ;)
>>
>>57940777
>Thinkpad X62

Get this or a used Google Pixel Chromebook. You don't need the graphics card burning a hole in your lap and draining your battery you need for spending hours in a writer's block getting nothing written.
>>
LMAO @ OP. Shine on, you crazy faggot.
>>
>>57940864
See, I threw a fit because your ability to arrange thoughts and emotions is flawed. Not because your ability to arrange words is.
>>
Why is anyone trying to help this spastic faggot? Get a macbook with your mom's money because you know that's what you want, and maybe tryt a real major jackoff.

Get a Dell latitude or a chinkpad. Latitude E6410 or E6420 if you go for the dell. X220 if you go for the chinkpad. They're easily upgraded, have great keyboards compared to you average laptop's, can be docked if you want a desktop-ish experience and can be outfitted with fairly long lasting batteries. They're also built like tanks, so you won't have to worry about damaging them most of the time.
>>
>>57939067
ThinkPad X62 mod from nkwsky on Reddit (serving as middleman for the Chinese). Your fingers will thank because of the superior classic ThinkPad scissor-switch keyboard. $700 for a Broadwell (5th gen) i7 should be fine for your needs.
>>
OP here

I don't need Adderall by any means but it's nice in a pinch when you're in the middle of a dissertation when your body begins slowing down compared to your brain. You'd be surprised the revelations I've managed to sort through at 7AM with a belly full of it. Take your DARE shit somewhere else.

To everyone hating on my choice of majors have fun slaving away for 40 years with a "job" you hate, a whale for a wife, and two kids who hate you and ask why their friends say you are a Good German.

Thinkpad 13, fantastic keyboard, 13" so good portable size, matte display so can be used perfectly fine outdoors / under a bright light without turning into a mirror like a surface book, no meme detachable keyboard technology, actually up to date specs unlike old thinkpads.

Not shilling, Ive just had one for 3 months and its perfect imo.
>>
>>57939067
Grab it at best buy. 200 bucks off right now and an additional 100 for being a student. Its where I got mine.
>>
I have the surface pro 4

Smaller than the book but I've been using it for college for the past 1.5 semesters and it does alright.

If you want to blow 2k on a surface book, go ahead. I would just get a surface pro 4 and save money for other stupid shit. If you do get a pro 4, better be 8 gb of ram or off yourself.
>>
surface is the best product for what you described, think of ways your writing can make you money so you justify the outrageous price for it.

No point skimping out on something you will use often. This is an important lesson to learn early in life, if you depend on a product, make sure it's fucking dependable.

t. just had to upgrade/replace 600k worth legacy hardware, company would've saved over 300k if something decent was bought 3 years ago instead of cheap junk

Fourth year reporting in.
Have you just felt that needing of killing yourself or it's too soon?
You will, trust me
>>
>>57943572
Not the same anon, but I've always talked down to people. Always had an interest in medicine and making nurses feel incompetent and inferior. Would medicine be up my alley?
>>
>>57943582
Hi Anon, the truth is you and only you know.
Just do whatever makes you interested and makes you like putting time into.
I did a big mistake in the past.
Should have done something else. This world just leaves me indifferent. I chose it because of money and finding a job is acrually easy.
At the end of the second year i understood the big mistake i made but was too late.
So Anon, if you don't mind studying for hours literally EVERY FUCKING DAY GOD CREATED, losing your freedom and free time, losing a big branch of your hobbies, yes. This shit is for you.
If you are like me, and you like more programming something/handle hardware and experiments instead of learning mnemonical shit, no. Drop it.
>>
>>57943657
I could care less about programming some fucking computer. I've tinkered with computers since I was a child and it hasn't gotten me anywhere.

All I have is free time, and the only hobbies I have are playing Xbox and listening to music.

I can study my ass off if I chose to do so. My problem lies in the mathematics department. Was never my strong suit.

I did like biology and chemistry but not so much physics. Mind you, I had crippling anxiety at the time and wasn't taking any anxiolytics to control it so that may have been a factor.

I honestly cannot see myself being a nurse as a White male. After seeing my sister be treated as some slave when she did home-health care, it's disgusting. I don't know why we really have nurses to be honest with you. Most of them are fiscally irresponsible and loud-mouthed cunts who don't know their asses from a hole in the ground.

And I truly believe that if you want to be a nurse, you should at least hold a Master's degree.
>>

>>
>>57943822
As opposed to all the unemployed working class schmucks who don't have anything else once their factory closed up.

The only thing that matters is if you're good at what you do, if you like doing it, and if you can get by on or in spite of it without going crazy.

Medicine was a lot more stale in my experience, because your entire job is to figure out some return to a stale and boring normalcy for someone's misaligned body. You do the same thing at a tech help desk frankly, and without the added joy of figuring out new tricks and creating new programming.

Got a prescription question for you if you don't mind.

I take Divalproex ER every day. 3000mg (6 500mg tablets).

Ever since I got my new office chair, my legs have felt heavier and just tonight, I noticed some signs of edema.

What could it be from? I don't take anything besides that and Clonazepam. Don't drink either.
>>
>>57944217
I am the guy at the fourth year.
Divalproex could interact with some antidepressant/myorelaxant.
Call your doctor and talk about it. You could be in need to stop the treatment and to find some other molecule.

>>57939572

I've had three surfaces. Two of them broke within a year of ownership. On that regard, you're out of luck - whole shit is glued tight. If my thinkpad broke, I'd whip the ssd out and back it up, if there would be something I hadn't automatically backed up yet, but with surfaces, there's simply nothing to do. You just call the support, pack the surface away, give it to a your ups man and they'll send you a new one.

Their support is top notch. I always got a brand new looking device back.

As long as the device works, it can be a quite good experience. But when you're having issues, there's nothing you can do. And first three iterations of the surface keyboards were shit. Fourth one is actually alright.

When I got my third surface I sold it as brand new and got a thinkpad yoga. There are some tradeoffs I had to do, but all in all I'm quite satisfied with my transition.
