Why are you not using lumina, the best DE in the world /g/? also BSD General. What do you love and hate bout licucks nerdy cousin?
What is the point in using this OS?Distro whatever it is
>>57934832
try it out and you will hopefully see the difference. Most noticeable is that its lighter and faster than most linuxdistros. Also much more unix like compared to lunix.
btw: I mainly run linux, I know both worlds.
>Why are you not using lumina
Because I use cwm.
>>57934917
on *BSD, tho?
>>57934951
Which OS comes with cwm? OpenBSD, of course.
trash
>>57935061
source?
>>57934917
this
most KISS WM probably
>>57935161
read shortly into it, sounds a lot like i3, which is what I'm used to from linux. will try it.
>>57934817
Edit your /etc/fstab faggotfdesc /dev/fd fdescfs rw 0 0
proc /proc procfs rw 0 0
>>57934913
But why do you use it?
OpenBSD is very comfyterbal
>>57935256
>having bash installed
Kill yourself.
>>57935326
if you build Xorg from ports it does it automatically
why the fuck does Xorg rely so much on GNU shit
>>57935335
It happened when they switched from imake to GNU configure
>>57935365
but there's almost no point
good thing Xenocara happened
>>57935256
happy?
>>57935405
Very
Customized my shitbox a bit more
>>57935432
fuck. friend of mine has his xfce riced in a very similar fashion. Do you have the original soundeffects?
>>57935472
Nope but I guess I could rip them from a Windows installation (have some 9x isos around)
Dunno how to use them on BSD though, I'm really new to this whole UNIX thing
>>57935524
never really bothered with startup sounds to begin with. xfce will handle that I guess.
Is screenfetch not in ports for OpenBSD?
>>57935990
screenfetch was written to be as unportable as possible
basically install bash and get it from the author's github (it's just a script after all)
>>57935365
>GNU configure
why did you have to remind me?
BSD is a cuckold license
>>57936057
Big flan configure-y config-fig
Little flan make-y make-make
>>57936057
>accidentally fuck up an option
>don't realize it until the program is almost done compiling
t-thanks
>>57934817
>lumina, the best DE in the world
Why use freebsd? Freebsd devs don't even use freebsd.
>>57937848
You use OpenBSD.
>>57937889
Are you telling me I do or are you telling me to?
>>57937922
both
>>57937934
No OpenBSD wifi drivers for my laptop so I can't into it.

>>57938063
systemctl start NetworkManager
Do you think I can run OpenBSD with a radeon video card? r7 260x bonaire. It says on the wiki that it's supported by the driver. Even if it doesn't would it have a generic fallback that would work somewhat? I don't want to install it on actual hardware unless I know I can start X and go download an iso of another OS if I need to.
>>57938388
Yeah, there's always the VESA fallback. Since I have nvidia, it's what I use all the time.
>>57938063
How is this a solution to missing wireless drivers
>>57940486
Write your own then bitchboi
Many packages that I use on Linux aren't available on *BSD.
Lack of google result, so I can't fix shit.
The only reason using *BSD I can think of is because *BSD much moar Unix than Lunix.
>>57943074
The FAQs are so good, you don't need google
How do you share your files to your friend or family that uses Linux and ext4 as their filesystem when BSD can only read on ext4 and can't write on it?
Also, can anyone teach me how to properly set up USB 3G modem on BSD?
>>57935256
>>57935405
stop fucking up the system, just use screenFetch
>>57934817

Depends what you're planning on doing with it, they all suck in some way.
I broke drag and drop file sharing on my installation, keep getting errors when moving files.
Using VMware Pro
>>57944268
Don't use that, just use a shared network folder.
>>57944315
Could you tell me how to mount said shared folder? I've added it to the list on vmware but don't know how to use it.
Or are you saying to share a folder as I would on physical systems?
On a side note, I found that the volume of my BSD VM is REALLY low, while obviously all volume sliders are maxed out, what should I do?
>>57944404
Newfags can't into vm's
>>57944412
p-please no bully
>>57944446
Come back then you have a clue
How well does awesome or i3 run on BSD or can you even use them?
>>57945625
Why wouldn't you be able to?
As well as on any other *NIX paltform
>>57934913
>Also much more unix like compared to lunix.
How so?
>>57945776
Because it's literary UNIX while Linux is UNIX like
what bsd should i install on a future laptop or should i buy a mac
because I don't want to.
Does it support the iWork suite?
>>57945807
>iWork
Not even Applefags use that
>>57945800
Linux can be UNIX: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inspur_K-UX. But I suspect you're just going off hereditry and mean "Unix" instead of the trademark and ceritification "UNIX". Which doesn't make much of a difference since FreeBSD isn't Unix in that sense either. It hasn't had Unix code in it since 4.4-Lite, and is both unrecognisable and far more useful when placed next to System V.
>>57945934
UNIX certification is a meme

>>57945703
I was under the impression that some things wouldnt work on BSD. You can even use KDE and GNOME?
>>57945971
Yes.
>>57945971
You can even run KDE or GNOME on macOS compiled from source... and it's even farther from BSD nowadays
>>57945934
FreeBSD is more UNIX than any current OS.
Of course it has come far from System V.
>>57945831
Hey I have an applefag and it does the iwork for me
>>57934817
I used Lumina when I used PC-BSD.
