was supposed to use a SFX PSU but the ATX fit the case just fine!
also the case was too thin for normal PCI cards and GPUs so i ended up using a PCI extender for the videocard
microATX cases are underrated.

No actual guts picture but this is sitting inside a prebuilt from 2004 that still gets occasional use for browsing the internet (Fujitsu-Siemens Scaleo-T, P4 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM, glorious Win XP and a Geforce 6600).

Mine is DDR1 but I think there were DDR2 versions as well.

The board in that picture has both ddr1 and ddr2. Some of the manufacturers made cool things like that during the transitions, both ddr1/2, agp/pcie and asrock even had some with different cpu sockets on the same board such as 754/939, 478/775.
>>
>>57907243
genuiney curious, can it make for a decent streaming box?
watching youtube and the like
though rather wasteful because of power consumption
>>
>>57909217
>The board in that picture has both ddr1 and ddr2. Some of the manufacturers made cool things like that during the transitions, both ddr1/2, agp/pcie

yeah thought so.

PS:
i'm not sure about this version but most version after this one looks like 754 or 775

>>57909217
the 754 dosen't fully support 1080p video at any smooth rate streaming.
problaby because its not much different than 478 other than socket and bus speed on everything and maybe PCIE.

look at the 775 with a C2D that will run 1080p video smooth as fuck.

the 775 depends on the cpu for example it supports on a P4 dual core but not on single core.
BTW 754 is rare as fuck never seen a working version like ever with out problems

the 478 doesn't support much and its 266MHz DDR1

I hope i can get nvidia 1070, if not we'll see. Maybe 1060, maybe nothing. To be honest, integrated graphics do the job fine.

I haven't actually tried watching Youtube on this machine in years but streaming from local network files would be fine.

My internet connection doesn't either, 720p30 is as good as it gets without switching to Jews Inc. ISP.

i have a very similar build than the pic in OP but i have no idea how to take the fan off to replace the CPU. any tips? its an Athlon 2400+ or something.
also any tips on troubleshooting hardware problems in old computers like that?
>>
>>57909516
>BTW 754 is rare as fuck never seen a working version like ever with out problems

754 is AMD, its not really rare tho.
I have a working DFI Lanparty nf3 board for 754 and there's a good chunk of them on ebay.
A couple of my old buds went with 754 from socket A.

But the whole socket is garbage really. I never saw the point with buying it as everybody knew 939 was right around the corner. 754 was like a taste sample of the K8 platform with low clocked cpus and single channel ram.

If you got a full 1mb cache cpu that overclocked decently (this was pretty much only the laptop variants of 3700+ and 4000+) with a good agp card, it whould probably last you up until 2006-07 maybe, if you didn't care to have the most powerfull system.
Most cpu's oc'd like shit tho and you whould have to be retarded to get a pcie 754 board as 939 was out by then.

There should be a big plastic lever clamping the cooler down, open that up and unhook the cooler.

>on ebay i could find one
in my country is almost next to impossable I just want to give up looking for a fully working one.

also Ebay very rarely has stock avaiable for shipping to my country because all of them are US suppliers which don't ship to my country unles i pay for a third party middleman and extra tax.

>>57910219
it has a lever what your suppose to do is unhook the lever on one side pull it off the hook then use a screw driver into the hole on the other side to unhook the other side

then just lift off the cpu cooler.

PS be slow doing it because CPU tends to stuck to the cooler

that might be the case its one of those tall metal ATX ones tend to be bad on the noise front
Not much you can do other than rubber grommets around the case fans to the case.
that might be

i got this thing for free from my little brother.
the computer case is from around 2005, the rest are newer.
- replaced the old HDDs because one of them literally emited smoke
- considering to buy another RAM (no idea how much in there)
- the GPU doesnt work for some reason (the fan doesnt spin and also no signal). i took apart and cleaned the GPU from the inside and got out a huge wall of dust but it still wont work...

any recommendations for a cheap GPU? the heaviest thing i will need it for is HD videos. i am ready to throw 250$ on this
>>
>>57909734
You went from a P4 with integrated graphics to a skylake i5 with integrated graphics, you're looking at a 50x increase in GPU power.

130nm process node vs. 14nm.

I can understand why you don't really need a real dGPU since you're already way better off than you were a few months ago.

How easy do you think it is to get hold of LGA775 stuff if you don't want to spend serious amounts of money?
>>
>>57917571
Pretty easy.

I got my LGA775 boards for cheap. Including the P35-DS3 in my post (>>57914520) which, I shit you not, I paid just $1.18 for it,and that's because of just ONE bent pin.

Seriously, you have to just look in the right place.

I already have a P43 board, and a G31.
And I gave away a X48 board a year ago.

It was very specific that I wanted a motherboard that could take DDR3 memory. Since I had a set of 2x4GB of it already.
