No, more like an old mail-order catalog. It'd be one long page with all of the product descriptions, and little "quantity" boxes on the right edge, and a checkout button at the bottom.
Of course, that wouldn't scale to large numbers of products. To handle that, it'd probably need multiple category pages, and a cart behind the scenes to keep the data between pages. Instead of a cart icon with a number, the category sidebar could have numbers for selected products per category.
I have no idea if this would actually be a good idea, but I like the thought of having interesting layouts for featured products and such - more hand-designed rather than a bunch of identical-looking product pages and grid listings. It could appeal well to a certain audience.
