If you can get the hackintosh working perfectly it's great. More than likely though it will have weird quirks that you'll have to deal with or spend hours trying to fix. Then when you go to update it'll break a bunch of shit and you'll start over. Laptops are just a pain to hackintosh most of the time.
When I did my laptop I did it on a separate hard drive so I always had a good working is in case the hackintosh crapped out on me and didn't have time to fuck with it.

Depends on what you're looking for.

If you just want to play around with it, any loonix distro.

If you want anything else, hackintosh. It works pretty well these days.
