Need to fix XMP. Lazy.
Ignore temps, I have my fans on a very slow rotation to generate less noise since I'm only browsing right now.
>>57902764
XMP is a right bitch on X99 from my experience, never sets the correct S/A voltage so I have to manually set it.
>>57902764
>>57903543
XMP is a meme so vendors can try to sell garbage to gamer faggots.
>>57903754
...well without XMP my RAM runs at 2133MHz, with the XMP enabled I can hit 3200MHz.
It's not a meme, it's just a pain in the ass to make sure it's been enabled properly on X99.
I never had any issues with XMP on Z97.
>>57903809
It is a meme because all it does is let vendors sell poorly overclocked RAM to gamers. If you want overclocked RAM, buy the fastest JEDEC standard module and overclock that.
>>57899613
Mirrin hardware breh.
>>57903842
>buy the fastest JEDEC standard module
lol?
The fastest JEDEC standard DDR4 module is 2400MHz CL-15.
The fastest XMP kits are 4133MHz CL-19
Good luck overclocking and let me know how it turns out.
I'm a little late to this one
>>57903958
>The fastest XMP kits are 4133MHz CL-19
I bet they work less than half the time at that effective rate. You know Corsair or whoever the fuck doesn't get special chips, right? The chips are only built to the JEDEC specifications.
>>57903984
>76C
Sir
>>57904022
>The chips are only built to the JEDEC specifications
That's simply not true, they are fabbed to meet the JEDEC specification at minimum (for JEDEC certification which is basically required to sell RAM).
The reason they aren't clocked higher by default is they would no longer meet the JEDEC spec, so they use XMP to get around it.
If you honestly think they're all the same I fucking dare you to go out and find some run of the mill DDR4 and try to clock it ANYWHERE near 4000mhz with CL under 22.
>>57897166
>SeaGrenade
I zozzled more than I wanted.
>>57904096
You're saying this like you can reliable expect that effective rate and CAS latency from your XMP DIMMs, when you can't. XMP works way less often than it doesn't.
>The reason they aren't clocked higher by default is they would no longer meet the JEDEC spec, so they use XMP to get around it.
You are such a moron. They're not designed to go higher, because they're designed to meet the specification.
Any idea why my RAM isn't performing as should be?
>>57904156
>XMP works way less often than it doesn't.
Anyone can make shit up if they feel like it, why not post literally any sort of proof?
Oh wait, you don't have any.
>They're not designed to go higher, because they're designed to meet the specification
And yet the kits that can hit 4000+ MHz are always running low on stock because they dont produce many of them and they cost $200+ for 8GB just for shit's and giggles.
If they could just throw any chips in there and slap an XMP sticker on it and sell it as 4000MHz+ they fucking would.
If you buy XMP RAM and it doesn't work at it's advertised XMP speeds, you can get a refund you faggot moron.

>>57904163
What's wrong with it? That's 3200MHz CL16
>>57904189
Morons separated from the money so easily.
>>57904223
Good explanation.
You're literally retarded, if they could get away with slapping whatever XMP they wanted on a stick of RAM why do you think there are SOOOO many kits available in the 2133-3000MHz range, but once you get over 3600MHz stock goes way down, half the kits are out of stock, and the other half are $200+
If you actually think they're the same, why wouldnt the manufacturers just pull some of the "cheaper" stick out, slap a more expensive XMP stick on it, and then put it back up as the more expensive units that are out of stock?
Just need to purchase a better GPU soon and maybe try some CPU overclocking at some point.

idle temp means dicks and has mostly to do with your ambient air temp and your fan curve.
Some people like their computers to be quiet, even under moderate load, so the fan curve will let the CPU hit 50C before the fans spin up past 400rpm.
What do i do with this? Does it mean its completely down the shitter?

well that's something you should never cheap out on, but if you have a good quality 3-4 year old unit, no reason to replace it.

>>57910679
And my 12 core ES is QEYU, as far as I know all engineering samples ha a qspec number. Sspec only for production units.
>>57910848
Yea it's a production unit, but the price is unusual. I know that chinks write fake sspecs on heatspreader, but I don't know them to ever change it on the actual processor. Don't know if that is even possible.
They also sometimes sell oem rejects. Those have production sspecs.
Could be just some decommissioned server being sold to parts, but it seems awfully early for haswell-E servers to get replaced.
>>57899613
You're just an idiot who should have gotten a xeon
>>57905157
Why would you ever buy that cpu
>>57910908
I know, my ES has fake sspec on the heat spreader. But this 2683 seems to be a legit unit, everything identifies it as production model, and the actual clock speeds match that. I don't think it's possible to change the CPU name inside the CPU. It came from Japan, not from China. Anyways it was a good purchase.
>>57911159

Cooling it with a Noctua NH-D15. Deadly silent and quiet. Have yet to overclock her yet, still installing applications. What's everyone else been able to achieve for an overclock with their 6800k's?
>>57907216
How do you like the Samsung 950 NVMe? Notice the speed difference compared to other SSD's in the real world?
>>57911597
well it would depend what you're doing. For gaming the real bottleneck would be the low single core performance.
>>57911904

~4.2GHz
>>57896758

>>57911199
Is he still selling Ivy Bridge-E parts? I could use some.
>>57916080
>actually owns what he paid for.
unless you're a business or large corporation, intel simply wont care.
Say what you will, but people have been using ES's at home for personal use for literally a decade+ without issue.
You're technically right, but when there are literally no examples of Intel asking for an ES back from a home consumer, I think you're fairly safe.
>>57916137
It doesn't matter if Intel cares, you still can't buy stolen property and it still doesn't belong to you. I understand the dirt cheap ES models but people actually spend thousands on them which is ridiculous and I know that's not throwaway money for them or they'd just by real ones.
And that's not even getting into them being broken, sometimes in ways undetectable until you try to use a feature.
>>57916300
>you still can't buy stolen property
You very easily can, you know how I know this?
I bought an ES 5 years ago, used it daily. Only recently upgraded and since i have microcenter nearby now, I went with their in-store sale pricing on Haswell-E instead of a Xeon.
It was stolen, I bought it, I ran it as my daily CPU for years, and I sold it along with the rest of my build to an older gentlemen who needed a cheap desktop. And guess what?
It's still working for him too.
Who cares if it's stolen? Who cares if you don't TECHNICALLY according to the letter of the law own the CPU?
You have it in your phyiscal possession, it works in your motherboard, it runs your programs and performs at it's specified speeds, etc. For all intents and purposes, it's your CPU in every way but the legal sense of the word.
>>57916379
Holy shit this guy is retarded.
>>57916432
he's a retard that saved a few hundred bucks and used the CPU for years without issue.
I'm really not seeing a downside actually. I mean, sure there is no warranty and it's technically not his. But if it works, who gives a flying fuck?
>>57916573
His argument is 'you can break the law if you don't get caught!' How is that not retarded?
>>57916669
Because it's like smoking weed, unless you're a big time dealer moving $1000's per week, no one gives a fuck about the couple of grams you're smoking on your own.
Just how if intel found out Amazon was buying 200+ ES's off ebay for 1/5th of their retail price, you bet your ass there would be a court case.
But in the same vein, Intel couldnt give two shits about you in your basement encoding your DVD collection.
>>57916669
He is not breaking a law. The person selling it is. If he sold it, at that point he is breaking a law but I find a hard time caring.
>>57916783

>>57916783
>He is not breaking a law.
Why are people on this website so ignorant of the law?
>>57917559
Yeah like smoking weed outside in Sanfransico or jay walking in NYC.
A cop could watch you do it and nothing would happen.
>>57917618
Cops are not the law. Stop trying to make analogies, you aren't good at them. Receiving stolen property is against the law, period.
>>57917559
The law you're violating is contract law you stupid hack. The contract is that Intel gives you these chips for use but retains ownership and you are not allowed to sell them. If someone sells them and you are the new holder of the device, you technically don't have a contract with Intel - but if you try to sell the device, they can take you to court for it. Civil court mind you, not a criminal court.
The device is not even "stolen".
>>57917696
>The device is not even "stolen"
How is a device that owned by someone else that's sold to you by a third party not stolen?
>>57917662
kek, no it isn't
Go steal an iphone and give it to a random stranger, is it THEIR responsibility to know that it was stolen?
Nope.
You go after the seller because KNOWINGLY selling something that is not yours is illegal.
If no one involved knows better, or in the case of ebay, you looked up a CPU number, bought the cheapest one and you don't know about CPUs enough to know it's an ES. Good fucking luck ever getting ANY legal action against that individual, and even IF you could get it into a court room, you'd 9 times out of 10 be laughed out because it's fucking retarded to put blame on the consumer and pretty much any judge would say so.
>>57917757
"receiving stolen property is not illegal"
Wow.
>>57917743
Because the ownership is not transferred in the sale. The seller violates his contract and legal action can be taken against him by Intel. Intel can also ask for their processor back from you and take you to court over that, obviously - but they don't give a shit either way.
These processors are literal trash as far as Intel is concerned, and unless you're a corporate user they have no financial incentive to deal with the situation. They can't do anything with these processors other than destroy them or store them in a bin somewhere.

Why use speccy over CPU-Z? What extra features does it provide?
>>57922255
it provides a total system snapshot in a single image.
CPU-z provides a snapshot of just your CPU.
Even if you were to go through the other tabs and take more screenshots, speccy still has more depth to it's tools, S.M.A.R.T readings, etc.
>>57923150
You guys should try hwinfo64 for a change, it's much better than speccy.
>>57923756
I have used it, but while it has all of the same information, it's not presented in a single sheet you can easily take a single screen shot of.
It has a lot of superfluous information most people either dont care about or dont even know what it is in the first place.
Speccy is the right mix of detail, and simplicity.
Would be nice if it were kept more up to date however and bugs fixed.
>>57924517
It has a system summary page, what do you reckon is missing from it? Sound card and monitor I guess, but it has some other interesting things like actual RAM timings (speccy display em incorrectly a lot of the time.) and it can actually display your overclocks if you put a load on your system. Which I have not done.
>>57924648
>missing from it
Well no temps are shown
No monitors are shown
If you have mutliple CPUs or GPUs there are separate pages for each, etc.
That and all of that extra shit no one in here cares about, We don't need to see the CPU feature set, we don't need a list of all the XMP profiles your RAM has available, we don't need any of that lower level detail.
It's a speccy thread, all that is needed is full system specs, including monitors resolution and model number, GPUs, CPUs, and their temps, and all the drives, etc.
HWinfo64 has all of this, just not all in a well presented single page.
>>57924701
