Oh a mac and i use chrome all the time. But I need something new that doesn't eat my battery.

What browser is a good choice to replace it and can play WebM videos?

Opera

Midori.

I think so?
>>
>>57890804
Microsoft Edge has the best battery life at the moment.
>>
>>57890840
Not using windows, using Mac OS 10.11 Sierra want to use something more open source at it's core if possible and doesn't kill the battery like chrome

Safari > *

It's by far the best browser of all platforms for browsing (if you do lots of web development, then Chrome's Inspector is better). But for browsing and enjoying the content, it's GOAT.

Install uBlock Origin + Ghostery and you're good to go.

Just because it doesn't play videos on 4chan doesn't mean it can't play webms :^>

Safari with the VLC WebM Plugin
Instead of opening a new tab to watch a video, just forceclick the link to see a preview of the page

put mpv into your dock and then just drag the webm thumbnail from Safari onto mpv. it will play it and then quit automatically. not a big issue. there are also plugins for webm if you want to go that route but I don't bother since I view maybe 2 webms per day.

>>57890946
but it is the best. I've tried all of them. Safari is not only the fastest but also the smoothest and has the best font rendering. it also has Reader mode which is insanely fast and customizable.
>>
>>57890967
Yeah, I know about the shitty VLC plugin. It's still infinitely less convenient than the regular webm support ANY other browser has.

Also, just for the record, the reason Safari deliberately doesn't support webms is because Apple prefers to force their users to rely on their proprietary H.264 video codec as opposed to the completely open source VP8 codec which webm relies on.

As for why you would voluntarily use software which deliberately takes away user choice and convenience in order to protect the interests of a multi-billion dollar company is beyond me.

>Ghostery
and this is where your advice goes to shit. I mean Safari is crap but you go and out do yourself. I bet you also install Cortana in all your devices too.
>>
>>57890865
Sorry I skimmed over your post. If you cant use Edge then focus on getting ublock origin, umatrix, noscript, uninstalling flash entirely, etc. Learn to find out which tabs are eating you're cycles, shift + escape to bring up the task manager in chrome, or visit the about:performance tab in firefox and kill any offensive tabs. I know about 4 years ago safari typically led the pack on battery performance on OSX but I have not seen any recent benchmarks but I wouldn't be surprised if it still had the best vanilla battery life.

>>57891122
if you don't agree to send them trackers you encounter, they don't spy on you. Ghostery has the widest and best tracker script blocking and if you use it, 99% of online videos and services will work.

I've tried other tracker blockers (Dsiconnect me, Badger etc) and they break shit. Half the videos won't work. Half the comment will not work even if you enable them.

If you want optimized, use safari
Install SafariStand so you can get favicons. If you'd like to watch WebMs, install MPV and keep it in your dock. When you see a WebM you want to watch, just click and drag the link to MPV and it'll load the WebM there.
>>
>>57891481
it's trivial to see the source code of Ghostery and many have combed through it. It respects your options and if you don't want to send them a thing, it doesn't send a byte. And if you use Safari, you're already using a proprietary piece of software so it makes no difference.

Why bother when you're already using a botnetbook?
>>
>>57891832
I don't understand why somebody would use a proprietary browser that blocks webms to shill for Apple's shitty H.264, but that's a fair point.

Although using Ghostery with something like Firefox would be outright retardation.

I didn't mention a VLC plug in. But anyway, safari + vlc is still less power hungry than any other browser :^) it's worth the 1 extra second you give up to drag and drop.

I can't believe some retard actually made it his mission to make the flag go the wrong way on the right shoulder.

Fucking stupidest goddamn thing I've ever seen. It's a FLAG. An ICON. A flag patch is not a literal fucking waving flag, and a waving fucking flag isn't meant to be the ideal representation of the pattern!

You might as well put upside down flags on their boots, in case they're ever high-kicking. Idiots.
