Idk shit about laptops but something with around 2500k performance that could run low volts enough to get 14 hours of movie watching/office work. Id settle for a 4th of that for light gaming. As far as I've heard this is where intel struggles with their igps but id be happy with 7970 performance and I think that would even be overkill. Running something like overwatch or a relatively modern diablo clone would be more than enough for long train rides/short plane rides or weekend lan parties.

All this in a 15" formfactor not obsessed eith thinness would be fine, 12 is something id like but dont have much experience with them. Some sort of bay that could house a dvd drive so I dont have to carry an external or a spare battery (like the idea of swapping main batteries without needing to powerdown)

On second thought id probably end up playing gba emulators on trips if anything.

A non retarded keyboard layout would be great. Never tried the clit but I dont think itd get in the way if I ended up hating it.

Readonably serviceable, ram/hdd/ssd being accessible eithout too much work and not having to feel like im assembling a mansions worth of ikea furniture to clean out fans.

Get a PowerBook G4 Titanium chassis, put a 1920x1280 screen and fix the Titanium coating, get AMD Zen or Broadwell in the laptop, no dGPU to keep a long battery life, put four ram slots and thunderbolt 3 capable USB-C and you've got a better laptop than anything that's out on the market as of now.

No macOS at all, why would the ideal laptop use HFS or a patchwork kernel?
I agree with the rest except the Xeon, you'd either have a 5-minute battery or you'd have to underclock it to hell, and having 12 shit cores in a desktop isn't as good as 4 medium cores. There isn't that much parallel processing on a desktop OS.
Doesn't ECC RAM also consume a lot more power?

>No macOS at all, why would the ideal laptop use HFS or a patchwork kernel?
HFS+ isn't as bad as people make it out to be and it's being replaced. I don't understand the bitching about the kernel, but if there are problems then fix them.

There are mobile Xeons now, and I imagine unregistered ECC RAM consumes the same power as non ECC unregistered RAM.
>>
>>57885662
hope you don't actually think this
Germany is cucked as fuck and will pit backdoors into anything and japs are just going to manufacture their products in chink land.

Because ZFS does not belong on a desktop, much less a laptop with limited RAM. I'm holding judgement for APFS until 10.13, but I'll assume it's on par with everything else out today.

By forcing unicode conversion which a stupid hotfix for a design flaw.
>case sensitivity is The Unix Way™
Only macfags give a shit about muh Unix. It's a stupid idea, files ~/bashrc and ~/bashRC are not the same thing because the strings "bashrc" and "bashRC" are not the same thing either. Way too much credit is given to the Unix spec.
>Because ZFS does not belong on a desktop
Ok fair enough, but then why else do you want ECC?
>I'm holding judgement for APFS until 10.13, but I'll assume it's on par with everything else out today.
From what I've seen it's better than anything we have today for desktop-oriented OS's. I really want it ported to Linux, but I know that won't happen.

>By forcing unicode conversion which a stupid hotfix for a design flaw.
It might not be the best thing but it's functional. I'm really not trying to defend HFS+, it needed to be sacked a long time ago, but it hasn't particularly failed me in the years I've been using Macs. Understand?
>Only macfags give a shit about muh Unix. It's a stupid idea, files ~/bashrc and ~/bashRC are not the same thing because the strings "bashrc" and "bashRC" are not the same thing either.
You think it's stupid but you agree that that's the way it should be? I'm not following.
>Ok fair enough, but then why else do you want ECC?
I wouldn't necessarily specify it in my machine, but the MacBook Pro is supposed to be a mobile workstation and in the mobile workstation sector if you don't have ECC RAM available then you are behind.
>From what I've seen it's better than anything we have today for desktop-oriented OS's. I really want it ported to Linux, but I know that won't happen.

Nope, I use a mac at work and no way I'm installing a beta filesystem on a development machine.

Tablets are the next evolution of portable computing, deal with it.
They're basically like monoblock PCs these days. Satisfy all your portable computing needs without the outdated flip-book paradigm.

The next-next step in the evolution of portable computing will be wireless VR glasses and a computer embedded into a keyboard.

Well, seems like there is Power Base converter which essentially is Sega Master System add-on for Mega Drive so it wouldn't work at all. Meaning that the hardware inside the Power Base Converter tries to run the topmost cart as SMS game.
