difference between programmer and mathematician
>>
a programmer is a mathermatician's buttboy
>>
first runs the world when you throw in a small amount of business sense and the second thinks he's clever for being paid double minimum wage to boss around high schoolers
>>
>>57878685
Programmers only apply math and not necessarily that complicated, it's mostly logic, while math itself is like a giant puzzle with rules you have to memorize.
>>
>>57878702
is this why haskell sucks?
>>
>>57878705
but isn't memorizing what each function in the standard library does and its inputs & outps more degrading?
>>
>>57878685
Programmers are skilled computer users that know a few different programming languages and can use them effectively.
They usually know some math.

Mathematicians have broad knowledge in various mathematical topics. However they usually don't need a computer to do math (some exceptions).
Some of them have basic programming knowledge.
>>
>>57878685
A programmer is a mathematician, a physicist, an engineer and an artist all in one.
>>
>>57878873
LMAO

get a load of this goy
>>
>>57878727
no because you can just google it.
>>
>>57878685
There's plenty of mathematician programmers like Charlie Miller, Colin Percival, Don Knuth and Gerald J Sussman who writes programming about learning classical mechanics or functional differential geometry by tossing out confusing math notation and translating the equations into functions http://groups.csail.mit.edu/mac/users/gjs/6946/calculus-indexed.pdf
>>
>>57878727
It's different, math is math, you have to memory the rules and apply them with logic, in the end programmers only apply math. Think of programmers as architects that work with letters.
>>
mathematicians solve problems
programmers copy + paste from stack
>>
>>57878731
Most math these days is done in sagemath/mathematica or with proof assistants.

There's also those Quant trading PhDs on wallstreet who write algorithms on the trading floor live https://www.quantstart.com/articles/How-to-Learn-Advanced-Mathematics-Without-Heading-to-University-Part-1
>>
>>57878727
>>57878936
and once you do that enough times you learn the important things naturally instead of forcing it into your head
>>
>>57878685
You can tell the difference by their opinion of how an equal sign works.
>>
>>57878963
>solve problems
*teach to high-school drop-outs
>>
>>57878685
I've seen this gif posted everywhere on 4chan and I have no idea what the source is. Someone help?
>>
>>57879006
well if you consider a group of highschool dropouts not knowing pre-calculus to be a problem then yeah, they're solving problems

Different sides of BSDM

Mathematicians are Masochists and like to cause themselves pain. They engage in copious amounts of self loathing when they can't figure something out.

Computer Scientists are Sadists and harm those around them. The normal target for their abuse when they can't figure things out is their computer and most especially its keyboard. This will not stop them lashing out at others over the internet when their pointers don't work though.

haskell is too concise lmao
this makes it unreadable

There are two kinds of math guys:

Math guy A will analyze your problem, possibly gives you abstract of such problem, puts it into unsolveable eqation, simplify it and then tells you if there exists solutions or no. If you ask about concrete solution aka numbers and charts, he will laught at your trivial demands and send you to guy B.

Math guy B will take your impractial model with absurd bounds and will run some simulations in expensive software while constantly replacing unsolveable stuff with additional constraints and in time he will provide you with actual numbers and possible right answers to your problem.

Then you go to programmer and he will make whatever you want so you can actually sell your solution to stupid users who are too lazy or stupid to do the math themselves. If the programmer is good, he will make algorithms based on output of math guy B. If he is average, he will need direct help by nath guy B during implementation.
>>
>>57878873
t. really poor dev
>>
>>57878685
programmer can get it to work but doesn't know why
mathematician knows why but can't get it to work
>>
A programmer has a job?
>>
>>57878989
Kek.
Underrated post.
>>
>>57883782
>programmer
>he will make whatever you want
holy kek that delusions
>he will make algorithms based on output of math guy B
bull-fucking-shit, most of the so called "good programmers" struggle with simple integration or basic matrix algebra
>>
>>57878685
Programmers cosplay naruto
>>
>>57878685
Mathematician knows all the algebraic formulas from the top of their head.

Programmer knows where to find them and what they are good for.
