Ubuntu, but Fedora is better if you don't mind adding the RPM fusion repo

You have wiki, remove your thread.

To be honest opensuse is the only distribution I was ever happy with and its Ubuntu level easy to use. Its essentially just a more stable fedora.

Lets be honest if this isn't just some childish paranoia and you are committing crimes that could stick you in prison for the rest of your life over your computer do you really trust all the developers whose work is packaged into a linux distribution. Its a little better with freebsd but still. If its that serious you take the kernel and build everything yourself so only back doors will be because of your incompetence.

Ubuntu,seriously

And don't go for mint and don't go for kevinnet

Arch is for beginners, it helps to learn the command line interface and the basic components of a desktop Linux distro.

A linux user starting from scratch should use Linux from scratch. A gent's step 2... gentoo. Arch as you begin to climb the learning curve. Finally Linux Mint when you have a wealth of experience.

Really depends on how stupid/lazy the person using it is. I honestly think you can start with Arch without too much hassle, but if they really don't want to fuck around, Ubuntu is probably fine.

Keep in mind, though, that if they're just going to hide from the terminal anyway, the DE is more important than the actual distro. You can choose whatever DE you want on whatever distro you want. So then I would pick the distro based on how fresh packages are or how many are available. Again, I'd recommend Arch here.

Arch-anywhere is a pretty nice installer for Arch also if you're scared of doing the manual install.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.

Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Try TAILS OP - It's Debian, but it's a nice package that works well and you can run it off a USB or VM tlll you are sure you like it. Debian is basicly bulletproof.
