it's a somewhat good idea if we leave behind the fact that a lot of people WILL lose their jobs if that thing goes mainstream.
>>

it was inevitable that people will lose jobs. if you are /pol/ then this should make you happy because now we won't need to import 3rd worlders into the West anymore because of this.

seriously though, why would this be a good idea?
-no price verification at checkout, what if the price doesn't match the one on the shelf?
-no coupons
-seller can automatically accuse you of shoplifting if their sensors don't work properly, this will fuck with current shoplifting case law
-this is only a problem for the top 4% of the population or some shit, most people are not wealthy enough to just go into a store zero fucks given and pick up whatever they want like that

>>
>>57856490
It's botnet tracking insofar as you're inside the store and you're logged into your amazon account (which is required to enter in the first place)

They already track you inside stores with survellance cameras, the principle is that those cameras just track what items you take/put back and add it into an automatic cart so you can leave as they deduct it from your account

I hate botnet as much as the next person, but grocery shopping is a public activity and privacy obviously can't be expected. This is one of those things that just make everything easier and I'll aboard.

By that logic, what's stopping someone in public from taking a picture of you when you're not looking? How can you know for sure 100% that the security cameras are wiped and not kept somewhere else?

I'll admit that you have a point wherein if I buy something silly at a grocery store like a kid's toy, I might start seeing kid toy ads on the web, but that falls into the realm of just having adblockers as usual. They cannot force me to see ads irl in the same way, as they can just be ignored like they already are now.

>>
>>57855812
Most grocery stores have been replacing people with self-checkouts already, it wouldn't make a gigantic difference. You'd still need people to stock shelves and such.
>>
>>57856808
You forfeit your privacy by being in a public place. Right now, anyone can already gather information about you whenever you're outside.
>>
>>57854302
not really, it's about using technology to make things more automated and our lives easier in general, which is what we should be doing. To further expose the internal contradictions of capitalism and the fact that capitalism has already broken multiple times and will only get worse. At least that's how it starts, such tech is too easy to control and manipulate the world with.
>>
>>57856827
they could, but its not automated. I don't want there to be an infrastructure where that profile-building can be done on a massive scale. if some private eye is willing to stalk me for weeks, then fine, he can have the information. I don't want there to be a massive dragnet that corporations and governments can just put a search term into.

In a normal store an alarm would sound.
If they are smart, they will rerout you to a normal check-out (phone off = normal checkout).

If they are really smart they will use video tracking and face recognition algorithms to bill you properly without human action.

When there are no jobs and people can't afford to eat what do you think happens?

>Let them eat cake
>>
>>57857459
The very assumption that ALL jobs will be automated is already dead wrong.

There will be jobs. The market will just adapt to new needs, and some jobs will become more valuable than others.

Automation does not happen over night -- during that time frame there's much money to be made as a human.

Full absolute automation of society implies humans have long become extinct.

>>

>You forfeit your privacy by being in a public place.
Nope, you do forgo the ability to conceal some of your information (in this case what is in your cart) from those who are geographically located near you. All other aspects of privacy still remain. For example only the people who see me shopping at WalMart could possibly know the things I buy at WalMart. But when I go shop at Crazy Ted's dildo shop, only the people there could possibly know what I'm buying. Amazon GO digitizes and universally links all transactions @ Amazon go stores. And only the information being directly and outwardly displayed is knowable in public.

You see the system is rigged for to never happen. Every once in a while someone has a very nice idea that involves automation and corporate moves forward with that idea only to make you the worker less valuable, happened with globalization, will happen with automation.
An example of how things might not go as planned, is robo cars, just think the legal hell it would be for it to run in the streets.
While I do hope the concept fails, because this idea is just another lazy economy thing. I can see a shift favorable to employers in the balance of power.

We're talking about Amazon. If you're less technical, they'll just tell you to fuck off.

Nothing.

Let's do it.

Why is Amazon making a grocery store instead of bringing the food to me?
>>
>>57854302
>no seriously

why did they feel the need to add that, what happened to minimalism and professionalism in advertisements.
>>
>>57859614
They have Amazon drones hovering above armed with machine guns patrolling the store for undesirable behavior.
>>

So, whats the bad part of this?
I mean, sure it's overcomplicating, and making a lot of undergraduates lose their jobs, but, where's the dystopia?
The government knowing where you spend your money and on what? Do you think credit cards don't do that already?

>>57854302
So my guess is that they will have alarms and employees to make sure no one comes in without their phone on, you have to scan the items with your phone, and if you shoplift they can hunt you down, and the account must have a verified credit card.

Problems:
the stores are going to be expensive as hell and you still have to wait in line for people to scan their phones plus scan your own shit

holy fuck the whole pretend to be stupid shit sometimes gets in on my nerve

do you fucking pajeets really think there will be some weak ass turnstile shit you can just jump over to enter the store?

There will be a fucking glass door to prevent shoplifters from even leaving the store, the whole thing will be rigged to become a containment cell if needed, that shit on the commercial was just an example.
>>
>>57860375
That was pretty awesome tbhfam.

Is it just me, or does it seem like IBM has always been ahead of the curve in the potential technology market, but later companies like Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, and others have simply taken and just refined to make it more marketable in today's current tech culture/climate?

Who know's what kind of research IBM's doing that isn't public and who knows how far ahead of it's time it is.

If we automate all entry level jobs(labor, fast food, grocery store anything, etc), then free university/technical school and universal/guaranteed minimum income will need to be a thing. Otherwise we would need to start grouping highschool students into what they would be good at/interested in and start teaching specific skills early. What do you guys think?
