OP is a dumb frogposter edition

Post your component list, rate other anons', ask questions in general.

Always state the purpose of your PC, your budget, AND YOUR COUNTRY if outside the USA.
If you are asking for improvements, clarify whether you want to lower price or to improve specs or build quality.

It looks nice to me.
>>
>>57839942
get something like this
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NqT92R
the xeon listed has 8 cores and 16 threads
8 ram slots on mobo
the 212 evo is an excellent fan for its price
>>
>>57839928
Get a RX 470 instead
>>
>>57840010

That does look really nice, but it looks like the speed is much slower, but i don't know as much about cpu stuff as i should so i don't know how important that is.
>>
>>57840137
It (the Xeon) performs better for multicore stuff, but the i7 will do a lot better in single core.
>>
>>57840168

So basically the Xeon would be better for 3d modeling, sculpting and stuff and the i7 would be better for stuff like vidyiagames?

If that's the case then i might just go for the Xeon, i barely even play vidya anymore.
>>
>>57840246
yeah pretty much
>>
>>57839871
Just built a new PC if you don't have a super limited budget you can do this build (For gaming btw)
CPU: i5 6600
Mobo: MSI h110 pro vhd
GPU: MSI Geforce 1060
RAM: 16gb Avexir brand
PSU: Corsair cx-m (550w go for the 750w if youre gonna OC)
COoler: CryoRig H7
Case: anything that fits mid ATX
If you plan on OC: i5 6600k with a asus z170 mobo
>>
https://it.pcpartpicker.com/user/Tactic/saved/N2QYcf

How is my build?
I'm recovering tho, my Seidon cooler died and the heat from the broken cooler corrupted the both ram slots, i'm actually hanging on a 4gb bluescreen prone stick until amazon ships 16gb 1866 ddr3 fury to me.
I'm thinking about going back to air cooler and changing case,
i love the Corsair C70 and maybe i'll get an nh14 Noctua
>any recommendations?
>>
https://pcpartpicker.com/user/eduz/saved/yMyK8d
I just upgraded my build for school/gaming use for max $1.5k.
Should anything be changed/upgraded from this build with my 1.5k?
I'll try to OC everything to try to squeeze all the performance from the components, too.
>>
What's the most future-proof component to buy for ~$200-$300? I have a $200 Micro Center gift card and I'm enlisting in the air force soon, so it'll be probably ~8 months until I can have my desktop again but I need to use this gift card.
>>
>>57841134
>https://pcpartpicker.com/user/eduz/saved/yMyK8d

120GB SSD ain't gonna be shit, games will fill it up very quick. Go for 250-500.
>>
>>57841134
Also have a look at the keyboard general, Brown switches are garbage.
>>
>>57839871
Which build should I go with?

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RhgxRG

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KHxmm8

I'm open to suggestions but I'm trying to keep it under $700. Also unsure if 500w or 600w would be better.
>>
>>57841134
>OC
Then don't buy a cooler that's bare minimum for the 6600K. See: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/wjmLrH/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhu12s
You should get a bigger SSD, 120GB is nothing if you want more than OS + bare minimum on it.
>>
Been thinking of building a new PC since current one is on the way out.

Is Kaby Lake gonna be much better than Sky Lake?
>>
>>57841276
Probably neither, but if you have to chose between those two, take the first.
Here's a more expensive and better alternative: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HTmjBP
B150 is recommended for i5-6500, H7 (optional) to keep it cool and quiet, optional SSD added, higher clocked RX480 and cheaper case.
500W is more than enough for your build.
>>
>>57841459
>Is Kaby Lake gonna be much better than Sky Lake?
Nope and prices probably won't drop either. If you can wait until mid/end of january. Prices are crazy because of christmas.
>>
Is the FX-6300 worth it for 70€? Usage will mostly be uni/work and some gaming (Skyrim, Total War, ...).
>>
Any Australians found good deals on GPUs?

Have you had luck buying second hand from overseas?
>>
>>57841514
Thanks a lot, anon. I'll go with your build instead. If I remove the extra SSD it's within my budget (only plan on downloading 2 games right off the bat.)
>>
>>57842309
If you don't have much data/games or have a spare old HDD somewhere flying around or cloud storage available, you could get a SSD now and HDD later.
Idk what you'll be doing, but you could get the 4GB version of the RX480, too. It's about $220.
>>
>>57842399
I'm trying to future proof it and apparently some games have already used more than 4gb vram.

Hi /pcbg/, I need some advice.
I found this pretty cheap freesync monitor.
https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Curved-22-Inch-Monitor-C22F390/dp/B01D3BDXP6

If you don't feel like clicking the link I'll tell you the specs:
>22"
>1080p
>tn display
>curved
>$149

Is this thing worth buying? I know that tn is bad for display range, but I already have a 23" ips monitor that I'm going to use with the new one.
I'll probably put the freesync one right in the middle of my desk and the ips one to the side so the display angles shouldn't bother me too much.

take a look at this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/DYgytJ

I got the 6400 since it's a bit cheaper and won't be a bottleneck for any of the other parts.
Swapped out the case for a cheaper one, but one that is still high quality and easy to build in.
650W is a bit overkill for that build, so I got a slightly weaker PSU.

Used the extra money towards a 1tb hdd.

All seems pretty good except the crazy expensive PSU.
- If you're deadset on getting an ultra good one, the corsair RM 550w is just as good build quality and still way more than enough power for them. The EVGA BQ 500w is bronze rated, well constructed, and costs only $55.
-The SSD might not offer enough storage, but I'm guessing you probably have an old HDD lying around for them to use as mass storage, or will add that later.
-It's probably worth upgrading to the Rx 480 in this price category. There are 480's going for $209 but with a $20 rebate.

This gets me around 40 FPS on High settings in Overwatch on a 1650x1050 monitor. What would be the most cost-effective GPU upgrade to get consistent 60FPS with max settings? Googling suggests the 1050 Ti but all the new budet builds seem to use the i3-6100. Low end corsair power supplies are extremely failure prone and don't supply full power unless kept very low temperature. Get something of better build quality. The low-end evga units are usually fine but I suggest shopping around.

That's like asking if Walmart is a better choice over Target.
They're big companies selling a big variety of things, at different prices and performances, if one of them has something for better, no shit you should grab onto that, for example, the 1060 3G is shit compared to the RX 470 currently just because of the 1GB difference and DX12 support, whilist at the higher prices, nVIDIA is currently the way to go.

Brand loyalty is FUCKING STUPID, and you should always try to get the best value for your money you can.

So craziest shit happen just now. Built a new computer for someone and the molex cable for the fan controller just started smoking. I freaked out and turned it off, after disconnecting it everything is fine.

What could be the cause of this other than a bad wire?

Only result I could find on google involved someone connecting literally a bunch of molexes together and connecting that to a 4-pin on the motherboard. I connected the fan controller directly into the PSU via PCI-Express.

The motherboard boots to bios fine, all the fans and power supply is running/spinning. I'm just concerned about this cable.

Is there a way to easily access the back of the hub on the rosewill BLACKHAWK to disconnect it, if not, would it be safe to simply cut the molex cable out and tape out the end with electrical tape and tape it to the back of the case where it can't possibly touch anything.

Why do you need an upgrade? Other than SSD, I don't think you're going to get much for $80 that would be a noticeable improvement.

I don't think you're going to find a better GPU for $80. and RAM doesn't make a big difference unless you run out even if faster RAM would be nice(although if you want DDR3 RAM, now's the time to buy because it's not going to get any cheaper).

i5 6500 is probably the best choice. Or a skylake i3 if you can't afford that.

The problem isn't that the drivers are "gimped" as such, it's that there are no optimizations for any games that have come out since 900-series, so the performance sucks in any new games.

The DRAM led on my Asus Z170 motherboard is going off and pressing the MemOk button isn't working. It blinks, then blinks faster, and stays solid. The manual says if it doesn't fix the issue I'd have to get another set of ram that's compatible. My ram is https://pcpartpicker.com/product/J27CmG/corsair-memory-cmk16gx4m2a2666c16 . Well guys, I spent way too much fucking money on my PC build. A grotesque amount of money. More than I would ever suggest anyone spend on a PC for any purpose, more than I ever would have told myself I would spend. At least everything but the mobo, cpu, gpu, and some small fitting and parts should be reusable in any and all future builds.

Now that the orders are already placed and parts are starting to arrive, hopefully the results will erase the pain of knowing I made a really poor financial decision.

Any advice on how to better deal with the agony of waiting while the rest of the parts I need to actually get booted up arrive over the next two weeks?

The 470 is better than the 1050 Ti. It's not even a contest or one of those situations that you should consider which games you play more-- the 470 is strictly faster. Usually, the 470 costs more than the 1050 Ti to reflect that, but to suggest that, at the same price, you should choose the 1050 Ti is either a sign of brain damage OR that you're a shill.

Last I checked, Win 7 had some problems with USB installation.

If I were you, look into burning a Win 7 ISO into a CD, then installing via CD drive. You can usually find one around a thriftstore under 10 bucks or less, or cannibalize from an old PC.

alternatively, you can click this link.

It's thick enough(thin enough?), that I've put a computer case on it before and have had no worries about it tipping over. Worst comes to worst, I would just build a little stand for it. As an alternative, I can put it on the desk with the monitor, but the case was a bit bigger than I expected so it's somewhat of a tight fit. Like, there's still an inch or two of clearance between the monitor and the case and their closest, but aesthetically speaking it seems a little odd, since the case towers (no pun intended) over the monitor by a good 4 inches or so and takes up over half the depth of the desk.

The problem is that your only sensible options for upgrade are either a 1070 or 980ti which are both overkill for 1080p.
You've probably had that 970 for less than 2 years so far. I say keep it clean, maybe overclock it a bit (970's overclock quite well from what i've heard) and wait to see if Vega has anything really sweet in the $300-ish price point. Or wait to see a 1070 on sale for like $350. If only one game is giving you trouble, and you're satisfied with your monitor, why do you want an upgrade?

>>
>>57863046
You have the basics and core components down pretty well but I'm going to nitpick here to refine your build and save you a few bucks.
-Well, for starters, that monitor looks ridiculously expensive and I can't see why. It doesn't even have G-sync and it's 1080p. There are sub $200 144hz monitors available.
-The ram seems to be about $14 more expensive than other 16gb 3000mhz ram.
-Power supply is a little pricey for a 1080p machine too. I'd go with a bronze 550w unit. The EVGA BQ unit is a lot cheaper and is well built. If you /need/ gold efficiency get the seasonic G 550w.
-As5 is a meme. It was the best a long time ago but now there's better around. I'd rather use artice Mx4. That said, if your cryorig cooler comes with paste, it's going to be good enough to push a 4.3 or 4.4ghz OC on your cpu. I would just not piss away the $8.
With these changes I've reduced the price by $130 and kept the quality and specs just as high.

Your motherboard has a sound chip in it. There will be a header that says HD AUDIO that will give sound to the front of your case for headphones and such. If you're going to be using the monitor speakers, HDMI carries both sound and audio.

honestly don't know about the DVI but imo HDMI would be your easiest cable solution for connecting the speakers. I assume there's probably some speaker cables in the back that you can plug into the audio ports on your motherbaord.

$811 USD. Should have everything you need and more.
I decided to use a 2 tb hard drive since you will probably be storing lots of your videos. Decided to use Micro Atx to keep it fairly small-ish while also not being a pain in the ass to build in. I was under budget so I threw on a cute little cpu cooler that should be easy to install just to reduce noise a bit.
If you want to spend more there are certainly ways to do that, or if you want to cut costs down that's also possible.
>>

>>
>>57863480
Oops. For some reason I thought it did. Everything I'm seeing just says regular DVI.
>>57863509
Makes it easier to clean, easier to swap parts, easier to close up your case, less chance of a cable getting nicked by a fan (i've seen this happen), Looks nice if you have a windowed case, not that everybody cares. The only reason not to is because you are too lazy to route a cable through a hole like a giant sewing needle. Most cases / power supplies offer some zip ties and twist ties with them so you can't really even use that as an excuse.

I got my case in 2012 and recently upgraded my GPU and PSU (to a modular), and things look a bit messy. I don't even think the CPU cable head could fit through it, but I at least managed to get that going around the right hand side of the GPU, and above the motherboard. It also doesn't help that my new GPU is quite big, and configuring the SATA Cables is all over the place.

Not him but anyway. The 1060 is more expensive in my country and the 480 is supposed to have more potential in dx12/vulkan.
>>
>>57863785
Probably not.

>>57863871
Better benchmarks in most games.

>and the 480 is supposed to have more potential in dx12/vulkan.
>upgrading to windows 10 for a card that might age a bit better in 3+ years.

Do you need the extra 2GB of vram?
>RX 480
Do you want the big videogame fps?
>GTX 1060
Are you interested in Vulkan or DX12?
>RX 480
Is one marginally cheaper than the other?
>the less costier alternative

this shouldn't even be a difficult question, you're meant to choose based on what you need and what you want to use it for

How do you even know if you need that much VRAM? Im currently using a 1gb card but I only get more than 60 fps in shit like cs:go. Mostly dx11 or lower but I'm interested in a few upcoming titles.
The 1060 is 20€ more expensive.
>>
>>57864726
A 9600 GT can run CS:GO on medium to high settings at 1680x1050 60 fps so that's generally not saying much.
>How do you even know if you need that much VRAM
If you don't know why you'd need that much VRAM, then you obviously don't need that much VRAM, get the 1060.

make sure to check amazon reviews for whatever type you're getting, I hear the MSI variation has some issues.

Well the ram seems to be an issue. That's what I wanted to say with the cs:go part. Mods in supcom2 freeze the game after two hours. Agony and doom caught my interest that would be dx12/vulkan as far as I know. I just don't know wether 6 or 8gb vram is enough.
Btw which of them draws more power? I only have a 400watt PSU...

Which MSI variation? There are three: the 6GT, the Gaming X and the Armor.

They're both low power consumption cards, going from the PCBs themselves, you're going to have the GTX 1060 using 20~25W less than RX 480 thanks to the sacrifice in memory bandwidth

>>57864885
I assume it was about the gaming x PCB featuring shitty coils.
>>
>>57864984
How about the Asus Strix?
>>
>>57865005
I'd suggest MSI Armor instead as I see it everywhere for cheaper, but if you find Strix as well at a good price, go for it.

You could go for the gaming x too, generally most people aren't bothered by the coil whine and it shouldn't be noticeable at all if your fans make some noise/your case isn't utter shit.

AVOID GIGABYTE

>>57864984
But I don't want to be a Nvidia goy ;_;
>>
>>57865092
Gigabyte Windforce is based though.
>>
>>57865183
Perhaps, but the Gigabyte G1 is a mistake against anyone with a functional cochlea.
