how often do you clean out your computer?
>>
>>57827663
Whenever I have to turn it off for maintenance, which is rare.

I used to clean it every 2 weeks or so. Now much less because I placed a small filter on every intake on my PC.

Protip: go to your local dollar store and pick up some electrostatic mop refills (they're thin white synthetic dry cloth thingies) for $2 and attach them over your intake vents (and all other holes on your PC) with small magnets.

You will never have any dust inside of your PC. Those mesh filters don't do shit. They trap big particles but small particles get in and those are way more dangerous for your fans than bigger ones.

You can change these cloths every few months or so. And it's dirt cheap.
>>
>>57827663
every year
>>
>>57827663
once a year
>>
Cleaned it out yesterday.
>>
>>57827753
that's actually a fantastic idea anon. Gonna pick some of those up tomorrow.
>>
>>57827753
>with small magnets

lel, all my intakes are plastic
>>
>>57827663
never

i just let the components die and buy new shit to justify my consumerist lifestyle
>>
>>57827874
How do you justify being a faggot?
>>
>>57827816
could just get some hepa filters
would be better for airflow
>>
>>57827753
Don't see the point of filters when I can just spend five minutes blowing my case out every month.
>>
Correct me if I'm wrong, but water-cooling both the CPU and GPU would cancel the need for air-cooling altogether, and thus the endless struggle against the dustbunny, right?
>>
>>57827912
still good to have some airflow for mobo and drives
>>
>>57827663
Every week.
Now if only I could do the same with my room.
>>
>>57827663
never
>>
>>57827912
Still need cooling for bridges, drives, and RAM.
>>
>>57827946
>>57827931

Do those get that hot? Can't they passively cool themselves?
>>
>>57827816
>that's actually a fantastic idea anon. Gonna pick some of those up tomorrow.
do it. it works great.

>>57827851
>lel, all my intakes are plastic
double-sided tape. I actually used that before I bought some chinese neodymium magnets off Ebay. double-stick tape works well and you can replace cloths about 2x before you need to peel off the tape and put some new tape on.

>>57827895
>could just get some hepa filters
Too expensive. These cheap electrostatic sheets are dirt cheap and thinner than hepa which means you'll get more airflow.

>>57827911
>Don't see the point of filters when I can just spend five minutes blowing my case out every month.
It gets into your fans. Those bearings and exposed surfaces will be fucked and you can't clean those easily.

One more protip: RAISE YOUR PC AT LEAST SIX INCHES OF THE FLOOR! Buy/build a small stool and put it on top of it. That alone will reduce your dust by about 80%.
>>
>>57827959
>Do those get that hot?
Apparently they do, since my mobo came with a little fan for the northbridge.

>Can't they passively cool themselves?
Not without some airflow.
>>
>>57827753
>attach them over your intake vents

Do you have pics of this? I don't think I could do it without it looking retardedly gay due to my case's design.
>>
>>57827816

I do this and it's way better than air cans for sure
>>
Is there a before image for the machine in that jiff?
>>
once every three months or whenever temps seem a bit higher than usual
>>
>>57827753

isnt static bad for the computer?
>>
Not often. I used positive pressure and air filters to make my job super easy. Basically just clean the filter and the tiny amount that is inside out about 1-2 times yearly.
>>
>>57827663
Atleast once in spring time. I did recently clean my NH-D14 under running water (without fans), it was full of stuck dust.

>>57827753
>electrostatic mop refills
Huh? Isn't that like paper?
>>
Am I the only one that uses a dry paint brush to dust off his components?
>>
>>57828183
No, I'm sure someone else out there is equally retarded.
>>
>>57828202
It works so much better than canned air never damaged anything either I don't see why I wouldnt
>>
My GPU is getting corrosion, how do I clean that?
>>
>>57828296
Very carefully, with baking soda and wet toothbrush.
>>
>>57827663
Every single day time I use my PC. That isn't daily, but is about 5-6 days a week. When I have finished using it, I deconstruct it, clean the thermal paste off the appropriate components, spray the whole thing with compresses air, and put them back in their original boxes on top of my wardrobe. My PC is never too dirty or dusty.
>>
>>57828296
with semen

is it safe to use compressed air to clean PSU motherboard and CPU fan?
>>
>>57828585
Yes, as long as it's an oil-less air compressor and you clear the line of any condensation first.
>>
every 2-5 months

Whenever I replace a part, probably once every 3-12 months

yeah, the gpu and cpu will still irradiate some heat outward and tend to heat sealed air to equilibrium with what temps they are kept under watercooling, which might be as high as 50º C right?

what about the whole mobo submerged in oil, with the rear panel turned 90º facing up.

>>57827753
i doubt even these will catch seabreeze oxidating humidity, its a hell having active air cooled electronics in most of the brazilian coast, Rio still has some hills, and some more mountais to the west, but my city is windy as fuck, computers keep melting

ive been toying with the ideia of just cooling everything with a oil pump and a car radiator, to have everything at 40~45ºC max, since its gone be an equalized temp, perhaps collecting the oil near the cpu and gpu, or just using styrofoam around it cpu/gpu and having the rest of the oil cooler with a second smaller radiator (or just passively with its 4 walls made of heatsink panels)
