Galaxy S4 is pretty much unusable now. Anything I can get under 400 dollarydoos that AT LEAST has an SD card slot?

I'd also like an IR Blaster, Removable Battery and/or Radio but I accept that there is no longer any incentive to make phones with pro-comsumer features, so I'll take what i can get.

Deluxe or regular version?
I was thinking about getting the Deluxe with the 820 at 499, but at that price point I decided to just get the 1+ 3T with retard insurance and a case.
>>
>>57826811
Radio and removable battery are basically non existent now. Honor 8 has what you're looking for though.
>>
>>57826813
Regular. I liked everything about my zenfone 2 except for the camera and it looks like the 3's camera is pretty good.
>>

i currently have iphone 6s (work phone), ipad air (work pad) and cheapo tmobile flip phone (had it for years, 25/month unlimited calls/text)
i dont make a lot of calls or text
i do take a lot of pictures/surf web/4chins/youtubes
the ipad/flip phone combo is good for me, but i'd prefer one device for both so i'm leaning toward phone only solution
i would *prefer* an iphone but i'm willing to consider droids
if i were to go ios, i'd pick between 7, se, or maybe an ipad pro (9.7") wifi/cell
what do you recommend? as long as i can make payments price is no problem
>>
>>57826942
iPhone 7+ or S7 edge.
>>
>>57826907
Yeah I liked my 2 as well, but it was more just a stopgap I got on the cheap when I moved from CDMA to GSM. Also >>57826922 is right. No OTA updates to newer Android versions on my phone in all the time I've owned it, but my bf's that got sent to repair center got 6.0 right there, fucking stupid.

Why would you consider an ipad pro for pics and web browsing?
>>
>>57826942

>>57826978
Apparently the ota rolled out around the time nougat released. I replaced it around the same time with my honor 8 because my zf2's screen broke after having it in my pocket while it was raining. Never buying an asus phone again.
>>
>>57826970
s7's ok now? or still exploding?
i like the 7 over the 7+ for size, but i guess if i'd replace both devices with one the bigger screen would be better

Don't know if anyone remembers but I asked about a week ago which SD card brand was the best between Sony, Sandisk and Kingston because I wanted to buy a 64 GB one to store my anime on it, but didn't want to import one from china because taking a short walk to make my warranty valid is important to me.

I ended up buying a 32 GB class 10 Sony one for $13.50, I asked in about 20 stores and that was the biggest one they had, was this a good deal or did I get jewed?
>>
>>57827129
You got a 32GB for the price of a 32GB.

>>
>>57827129

>Apparently the ota rolled out around the time nougat released.
I haven't gotten shit, the last update was a few weeks ago and it was just the same old "security update", not a direct upgrade
>I replaced it around the same time with my honor 8 because my zf2's screen broke after having it in my pocket while it was raining.
Weird, mine has done fine through rain, but then again I got some cheap chinaman knock off of an otterbox.
>>
>>57827214
Got mine while on vacation in indonesia. Pretty sure you can flash the ota update manually. If you can't, CM support was pretty good from what I remember.
>>
>>57827141
Thank fuck, I was worried I paid too much for it.

>>57827212
Yeah I know, I did check for that, phones, the 100 dollars N3DS, a new monitor and a new graphics card, but all the 64 GB were no name/cheap looking ones, while Sony is a major brand.
>>
What is a cheap and simple smartphone that I can easily maintain using Linux only? My iPhone OS is years outdated because I don't want to boot Windows to "synchronize" it. I care about speed and stability, and I'm not into advanced "features" and bloatware.
>>
>>57827654
Most android smartphones do their updates OTA.

Of the cheap smartphones around, talking sub-$200 new, there's the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, the Nextbit Robin (what I just ordered), Zenfone 3, and Moto G 4th gen.

Dad wanted a phone with a good camera so he can take pictures at the field. Was thinking of getting him a Mi4c.

Got an iphone 5s instead for $100. I think it was a good bargain.
>>
I got a Honor 8 over Black Friday and I... don't really like it. Camera is a slot shittier than the 5X and I can't really notice a difference in CPU/RAM in my day to day uses. I just wanted a smallish phone with more than 32 GB.

Maybe I should just get a 64 GB iPhone SE. I'd go back to my 5X but I'm fearful of the bootloop.

Any other 5 inch or smaller phones with good cameras, 64 GB or SD slot, and fingerprint scanner to look for?

seems worth it. Nexus line is gone and I don't care too much for the Pixel at its pricepoint. Application quality control is shit on Android from my long experience with it(even on very popular phones).

What do you think about selling your ithing and buying the newest version every release? This seems like a good strategy to own them since they have a high resale value.

For example, get the base model of 7 plus now,
Resell when 7s plus comes out for ~550USD

That means it would cost only 300USD to upgrade assuming the newest model is ~850USD including tax
>>
>>57830575
I'd probably do that every second year. I personally wouldn't buy an iPhone because I wouldn't buy any phone at that price, but they hold on to resale value very well.
>>
>>57830575

looking at the resale plan, it's probably a shit idea

I underestimated depreciation. A base model 6s at this point is ~300-350USD

That's a large loss per upgrade and after 2 years it would be even larger

I would pay a lot if it meant that the phone can function for a longer time or if the resale method was viable. It just doesn't make sense at this point to pay the same exact amount for a Pixel XL and be stuck with Android dev standards and a shorter support cycle.

Here's how it looks:

Pixel XL: 855USD with tax
Assuming they continue three year support as with the Nexus it costs me 285USD a year to use

iphun 7: 855USD with tax
Assuming 4 year support it costs 213 USD per year to use. Cheaper and better standard applications

Anyone with the Moto G4 (xt1625 specifically) get Nougat running on it in some form?

The LG G5 any good? My phone plan is about to run out and I could get a good deal. I've used Samsung so far (S2, S3 and S5) and was decently happy with it, but want to try something new. Biggest concern for me is pretty much raw power, which the LG seems to be decent at.

If you need more details or want to suggest something else:

>Country
Germany

>Carrier
Flexible, though good quality (D-Netz) is preferred

>Wanted features
Good processing power, removable battery is a big plus, expandable storage is also neat. Don't want iOS or Windows Phone.

>Budget
Limited by carrier offers. That means mostly Samsung, LG, Sony, Huawei and HTC. Price is less of a concern.

>Size
Not a concern, except when it goes into Galaxy Note territory. Want to keep it compact, but processing power is a priority.

OnePlus is very open about software, so you can relatively easily just flash the ROM you want.

Real shitty build quality, it bends with very little pressure.

I am looking for a 7" tablet which today realistically means buying a 6.5" phone since those outperform 7 and 8" tablets in every way. That's why Xiaomi Mi Max peaked my interest - and I've looked at a lot of reviews. I'm currently leaning towards DOOGEE Y6 Max at half the price of the Mii Max since it's got "good enough" specs.

Mi Max sounds like a great phone on paper but I don't want a phone that bends as easily as a sheet of paper.

Soooo, I'd like some thoughts on the whole curved display on smartphones trend, now arguably bigger than ever thanks to Samsung. The thing is, I've been using a S7 edge for the last 3 weeks or so and while the design of the thing is gorgeous I find the curved display to be annoying simply because it detects my palm as a touch and it behaves erratically because of it.

Besides ergonomy (had the note 7 and it was the most comfortable smartphone that I've used at that screen size) I don't see a reason why curved display smartphones should keep existing, they even make worse a situation like watching media because of the distortion at the edges.

Now, because of the phone's really high screen to body ratio, it is really to rest your fingers on it while holding it, my old LG G4 feels better in that aspect. Have we found a barrier when it comes to ergonomy?

if you're going to be using your phone for everything because you can't afford more than one device then it matters a lot

I used to be like this where I would care about rooting my phone, having an accessible filesystem, adblocking, easy sideloading etc.

These days, with the subsidized Nexus line gone I don't feel like paying the same amount for a lagdroid as I would for an ishit (the Pixel XL is exactly the same price as the 7plus). I also stopped using my phone for everything.

Tldr there are a lot of things to consider based on the level of use that you expect out of the device

How do we still not have an alternative to iPhone se?

I tried using a 5" phone for the last two months, they're simply not practical for me, you can't type one handed is my biggest complaint by far. When you try to do anything on impossible unless you stop and carefully hold your phone with two hands to do what ever you're wanting to do.

Xperia looks nice but at the same price as the SE the choice is obvious. At this point the only options I have are iPhones 5 5s 5c and SE. There is no 4" redmeme there are simply no options is this a demand or a supply issue?? I'd like to know out of those who have big phones do you drive everywhere you go or do you live in a urban area that requires you to walk? I could totally have a 5.5" phone if I drove everywhere, the need to ever use it one handed would disappear.

I need some help guise.
I got my Redmeme a few months ago and I love it, but in comparison my last phone was a dying hand-me-down iPhone 4, so it was easy for me to love any new phone I got. Anyways, a problem that I used to get very occasionally seems to be more common for me now.
Often when I use the fingnerprint sensor, my fingerprint gets recognised and the screen lights up the home screen for a split second before immediately going back to sleep. I couldn't find anyone with the same problem on the Pajeet forums, so I was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problem?
>>
>>57844452
Don't ever buy phones without warranty. There are just too many things that can go wrong.

Wipe and reformat. If that doesn't work then replace the fingerprint sensor. If the sensor is also the power button then its probably defective and causing ghost registrations. That or it's shorting and the phone reacts by locking itself.

I've got 100 dollars, maybe 140 tops. Never owned a smartphone before, I just want something that can run like, an irc client, steam chat, discord and look at 4chan and youtube.

A camera that isn't complete dogshit would be nice too.

I'm real poorfag so hopefully something that won't break instantly.

Sorry if I shouldn't ask, or something. The suggested phones seem kind of iffy to me, at least the ones in my budget.

Thanks in advance

Moto G4 Play is $150 on Amazon and probably best you can get without going chink.

Second this. It can he had for cheaper ~$80-100 on sale. I bought one for my girlfriends cousin and she loves it.
>>
>>57845205
Is there something about chinkphones that I should be wary about?

I'll look into it though.

I was originally going to get one of those Pepsi phones, but when I actually have the money, the risks of it going bad and some of it's flaws were getting to me...and it's out of stock.

I had a 100 dollar goal and 50 dollars is a lot for me, but if it's worth it in the long run...
>>
>>57845239
They mostly don't work in America i.e no 4G and sometimes even 3G. the Pepsi phone I think doesn't have any U.S compatible bands.

You won't be getting much for $100. you can get the 2/16 Redmi 4 or RN3P for $120 but again limited bands for the U.S. I think the RN3P can get 3g/4g on t-mobile/at&t.

anyway check

I don't need a phone too much aside from the being able to take calls, internet browsing in public and listening to music.

I've heard pretty good things about this device. It's only $100 and it looks pretty solid.

What do you recommend, /g/? Is it worth it to spend a couple hundred more for casual use?
>>
Anyone getting better SOT on the Nexus 6P using 6.0.1?
>>
Does anyone remember then name of a chink phone that had a 1440p display for $200? I think the name had an L in it...I remember it had no headphone jack
>>
>>57844115
The phone comes with an unlocked bootloader and they honor your warranty even if you flash CyanogenMod or Paranoid Android or something. That's actually one better than Oneplus because while all their phones have unlocked bootloaders, they do not honor warranties for shit.

Also, google is botnet, some cloud storage service is no more botnet than every other android phone. Basically this is how the cloud storage works.
>32GB on board
>when that is close to full, and you are connected to wi-fi and charging, it uploads rarely used apps to the Nextbit cloud
>rarely used apps are basically in save states, and when you reaccess them after re-downloading, they are exactly as before
>large video and photos that you have not accessed in a long time are downsampled and backed up
>you can control what apps are/aren't backed up manually as well
>this is all optional and can be disabled immediately

tl;dr
it's basically a cooler looking Nexus 5X with an additional 1GB of RAM for $170. Good ROM support and supports all USA GSM bands unlike chink phones. If you don't like cloud storage you can disable it or flash CyanogenMod. It's a good buy right now imo
>>
>>57845604
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro is the defacto chinkphone

not a chinkphone, but I'll be getting my Nextbit Robin in the mail soon, which is $170 right now
on paper, it is a Nexus 5X with +1GB RAM
>>
>>57846803
Leco something probably.
>>
As far as RAM on Android goes, what do you think the thresholds are?

For me it's
>minimum 2GB, below that is unusable
>3GB is good, will be able to effectively multitask without hitches
>4GB is optimal, will never run out of RAM in the near future
>more than that is overkill and useless

This also depends on the phone sometimes I think. If it runs a lightweight, stock version of Android, it can get by with less, but if it's a bloated experience you will feel the lag either way. Samsung phones are notorious for this.
>>
>>57847169

I have one and system constantly use more than 10% of CPU, stays at 50+ Celsius all the time and battery last about 7 hours without using it.
Changed three ROMs and it's always the same.
I don't know if is just my device defective but I don't suggest to buy it.
Also usb-c is shit

Adding to this
ASUS ZenFone 3 max is also a contender.
So G3, G4 play, or Zenfone 3 max?
>>
My Axon 7 came

It's a good size phone but a little big for my baby hands
Good looking display, capable of being bright as FUCK but can also be surprisingly very dim on the lowest setting
The dual front facing speakers sound really great, especially with the Dolby sound turned on. I didn't think the high quality dac with headphones would sound any different but its noticeably better, even more so with Dolby turned on.
The battery life is pretty good, but the fast charging is crazy fast
The performance is snappy and responsive
The cameras are good but nothing to write home about compared to higher end phones
The fingerprint reader has pretty shitty accuracy, I have to rescan like 20% of the time

If you're debating getting this phone and you're into audio I personally can recommend it. I was stuck between this and the OP3 and I think I made the right choice.
>>
Looking for something cheap I can put Cyanogenmod on and not have to fuck around with it.

Is the Nextbit Robit actually any good? I was thinking of getting a Nexus 5X but the Robin is significantly cheaper and has more RAM.
>>
>>57844850
Yup, MeeWee 8. I think I've fixed it, but I'm scared the problem might come back at some point. I feel like having 3 fingerprints of my index finger saved on the phone was a bad move. But it's different now.

Zenfone 3 Max has an ass CPU. So do the G3 and G4 play. They all have just 2GB of RAM which barely cuts it. I would avoid all those personally unless you are a very light user, in which case there are Blu phones you can get even cheaper for similar performance.

Good phones:
If you're okay with chink phones, obviously the Redmi Note 3 Pro is worth looking into. If you're not and you need all American bands, you will need to go preowned on something older but still good like the Oneplus One and LG G3, or the Nextbit Robin.

>>57847822
I'm assuming it's good, I get mine in soon. Reviews are good for it. I'll let you know if I like it when I get it in.

The main cons seem to be middling battery life and durability.
It has a cloud storage gimmick which is cool but you don't have to use it. If you're flashing CM then obviously you wont.
It was created by an American startup and the guys behind it are old Google vets who made it for the right reasons. It was a kickstarter project.
>>
I'm gonna fucking do it lads. I'm gonna get an S7E, and I'm gonna get it an "Otterbox Strada", which in reviews was said to turn your phone into an impromptu self-defense weapon if you need it.

The only smartphone I had until now was the Galaxy Grand 2, which was a budget phone from early 2014. It's kinda shit and very slow, but to its credit, the damn thing fell on so many hard surfaces so many damn times and it still works moderately decently except for a totally shite battery. It has 5 small cracks on the screen (not spider web cracks) and they're all from the last 2 months. All that without ever having a protective case or screen shield, because Samsung thought to themselves "huehuehue, wouldn't it be hilarious if we make a phone in a size that is different to literally every other phone in the market and so nobody would bother to import a fucking case to it?.
Hoping that the S7E will, human accidents aside, last me at least the same amount of time (2 and a half years) if not more.
