Hi /g/
Im new here and have some questions.
Would be nice if you can help me.
So, i bought a new PC 2 years ago, having a R9 290 graphic card and now i want to upgrade it to a 1070 or 1080.
The last time i did this by myself where at a time the DM (Deutsche Mark) was still used instead of the Euro, so its been a long time.
What makes me most nervous are thouse extra power supply wires, that where rare/unusually back then.
How to handle this? Im very sure the 1070 or 1080 wont have the exact same plug.
And what about the voltage, does the PSU automatically send the correct amount the cards needs or does it need changes in BIOS ?
The good news is, that the R9 290 needs alot more Watt than the 1070/1080, so a new PSU wont be nessesary, im pretty sure about that.
Anyone out there who can help me please?
well, I think you should check the RX 470, I use it and its pretty good for 1080, 1440 and cost about $ 160-200.
just check the inputs and the power supply wires and the required of the card listed in its info, If its the same, than your good, If your power supply dose not support the 8/6 pin, Than just buy a new one.

He's got a 290. The 470 is a side-grade performance-wise.

so is a 1070, really.
OP your power supply connectors should be fine, you might get adapters like this included or you can just buy some. a 290 probably has the same power connectors as the new new card will so im not sure you should be worried.
also you dont need to adjust any voltages or anything like that.
from what i read the 400series is a paper tiger.
the 480 seems to barely compare with the 1060 and having a lot of more hunger for Watts.

ah, okay...that at least sounds good
