TRUTH: You can. It's as simple as using the Ellipse Selection Tool to first choose the size of circle then Select -> Border from the menu and finally using the Bucket Fill Tool to give the circle a color of your choice.

It does run like shit. They still haven't included the brush fixes into Wine by default for some stupid reason, so it runs even more like shit on distros that don't include them. And it often glitches out, shit fucks up when zooming, selections get all weird. It's just not good. I'm a gentoo neckbeard and even I don't want to put up with it.

It's true thought, GIMP can't compete, it's not because it's free software, it's because it's promoted as such, the devs doesn't care about quality.
Look at blender for example, it can perfectly compete with software like Maya because it's quality driven, not to please RMS.
>>
>>57813297
That's right. The thing that scares most people away from GIMP is that it doesn't even try to present itself well other than "it's free". It puts off both regular users and potential contributors. For an image editing program, one would think having a good interface would be the highest priority, but the creators disagree.

>>
>>57812510
A common one:
>Linux has no games
>All linux games are thrash

This obviously comes from very salty people but i think the following pasta is relevant:

Not him but the no games argument is not true anymore. Windows is the best os for gaming mostly due to most game developers are trained into developing for it with microsoft's closed APIs, so the simple process of porting a game that was developed for windows to any other platform will affect negatively the performance of the game. This with the fact that the marketshare is small compared to windows there's hardly an incentive at the moment to optimize for linux, making look as if the platform were worse for games than windows when in fact to flip the situation you'll need to change the idiosyncrasies on the industry itself.

The fact though is that the situation on linux is not nearly the same than two years ago and now those who prefer linux over windows now can play games on it, helping to break the vicious circle, but still there's a lot of things to do for linux to compete in the gaming side. I anyone wants for this to change i recommend to play the games you can on linux when possible and ask for linux ports.

I notice some people doesn't want's for this to happen but if that the case let me ask (not directed specifically to the person i'm replying): how are any of you benefited in a meaningful way with the current situation? because i consider that keeping the statu quo just to have a tool to win an argument on what OS is better is not a meaningful thing. how having less options and practically being locked to MS products benefits you?

Not him but the no games argument is still true. Windows is the best OS for gaming mostly due to DirectX being better than garbage Khronos puts out, so the simple process of porting a game that was developed for console to Windows to won't affect negatively the performance of the game. This with the fact that the Linux marketshare is small compared to Windows due to garbage like OpenGL/OpenAL, unstable ABIs and horrible audio stack.

The fact though is that the situation on Linux is still the same as decade ago, it's unstable trash and now those who prefer Linux still have nogames, keeping the vicious circle, but still there's a lot of things to do for Linux to compete in the gaming side. You can beg like bunch of entitled chidren on Steam forums spamming epic "no tux = no bux"

I notice some people want Linux to happen but let me ask (not directed specifically to the person i'm replying): how are any of you benefited in a meaningful way with the Linux? The benefit of of free and open software is that it prevents any single company from monopolising the industry. Which is exactly what directx and Microsoft did in the 90s. Now they use their market share and ecosystem to try and maintain their monopoly.

Also, why would I want to shell out hundreds of dollars for something that I can do for free?

All of those problems can be fixed with third party software

>mfw using Spybot Anti-beacon and Winaero Tweaker to make Win10 as smooth as 7

Meanwhile Lintards are stuck with a shit OS that remains shit, all you can do is cover it up with your riced out animu desktop
>>
>>57823512
Case 1:
>Install Windows 7
>Installation takes 30-45 minutes
>Reboot several times
>Gets desktop ready for first use
>Takes 10 more minutes
>Reboot
>Realize WiFI doesn't work
>Decide to download the wifi driver with my Linux machine
>Realize windows doesn't even have drivers for ext4 or anything but FAT or NTFS

Case 2:
>Decide to install windows 10
>Installation takes more than one whole hour this time
>Boot into windows 10
>Realize two finger scroll is not working
>Realize the touchpad stopped working
>Realize the start menu and search in the bottom panel does not work
>Thanks to touch screen laptop, I manage to install drivers for touchpad
>Driver installation leads me to reboot
>"Getting windows ready"
>30 minutes in
>"Getting windows ready"
>"Don't turn off your computer"
I decided to trash wincrap. It's a FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT and it doesn't belong outside VM

>Laptop has no OS
>Decide to install my favourite comfy OS
>It's Xubuntu LTS 16.04
>It has a LIVE environment so I can check if my hardware is compatible ootb
>Just works
>Touch screen just works and so does touchpad and wifi
>Install
>Browse 4chan during install
>Install takes 10 minutes
>Reboot
>A fully customizable, fast, responsive OS ready for me THAT JUST WORKS

I'm sorry windows is bullcrap. It doesn't have Live ISO, can NOT rank update mirrors, update takes 4-5 hours, upgrade breaks and it doesn't work, even though people pay for it.

My perception of windows is that it is still alive in desktops because of
1. computer illiterate people that does not know any other OS than windows and any other browsers than Internet Explorer
2. Availability of pirated paid software.

Android will kill windows anyways because it's easier to use. Microsoft is trying hard with the surfacebook pros but honestly it doesn't compete with tablets.

For gaming I'll lay down a hard to accept fact:
People that lost virginity use PS4 and move on with their lives

I literally get none of these, friend.

You see the great thing about Windows is that while they spy on normies and retards you have the ability to remove every bit of it.

Get Enterprise edition, install Spybot, install Winaero tweaker

works exactly like 7 now
>>
>>57823672
I'm more concerned with the lack of customizability of windows. It's made for brain dead retards that don't innovate, uses the same shirts every day and has the same dinner every night. Users don't have a voice on their system and how it will work

This, plus the fact that Linux (and marginally macOS) users used to give more to weekly Humble Bundle than Windows users at a moment.

I suppose Linux users would be more likely to buy DLCs as well (which can be a good thing from studios that respect their players), or to support their favorite studios in other manners. The thing that prevents me from playing videogames on Linux, besides that I don't have the time at the moment to play a game for 2 hours per day, and maybe not the will to restrict myself, is the small (but viable) number of Linux games, such as even games series that are partly, but not completely ported to Linux (such as The Witcher).

My two cents about gaming and linux: in short, if a native build for linux exists, or if it involves retro emulation, you're good.
But that doesn't quite cover all cases. There still are plenty of small cases, such as various old games or specific hardware, where wine or a vm won't quite do. It's a sub-optimal mess at best, and that's just not good enough. Personally I just make dual-boot setups on my laptops, where linux is mainly used for work, and windows for games. That works very well for me. Retroarch is the only form of gaming I would do on linux, but I hate that they only provide a repository for debian systems. They should make RPM packages as well to cover more distros.
