Music streaming startup Spotify is shutting down its peer-to-peer network that powered a significant part of the service in the desktop app. According to TorrentFreak, the company doesn't need to use peer-to-peer anymore as it has enough servers spread around the world.Apr 17, 2014

how much music are you faggots listening to?

who tf needs entire discographies on their ipod?

buy a 32gb microsd for $10 and throw on all of your current listenings. Stop being retarded and pretending that disk space is the reason that you're using botnet shitware to stream music that you

1. can't listen to offline (muh diskspace)

2. can't take with you on physical media

>how much music are you faggots listening to?

Spotify runs 24/7 for me

>who tf needs entire discographies on their ipod?

Me. Also not on an ipod, these things are obsolote. Just my Moto G4 is enough for music on da go. Also there are a whole lot of audiobooks in spotify, which makes commuting all the sweeter

>buy a 32gb microsd for $10 and throw on all of your current listenings. Stop being retarded and pretending that disk space is the reason that you're using botnet shitware to stream music that you

32gb? Nigga pls

>1. can't listen to offline (muh diskspace)
>2. can't take with you on physical media

I'm using spotify because it's just more convenient. If they want 10 of my neetbux for offering me more music than I can listen to in a lifetime, all the better. Beats searching, torrenting, indexing in foobar etc. My time on this planet is finite.

Youtube is probably the best just for the library

Deezer allows you to add your own music (and sync it everywhere) unlike Spotify, and it has good music discovery options (unlike Google music)
That said, I still torrent my music for mobile use because I like to listen to a big shuffled playlist of all my library, which no streaming service allows you to do (1000 songs limit per playlist)

Spotify if you stream. Spotify Premium if you listen to a lot of music on your phone.

Google Play Music if you torrent or purchase digital music, but don't plan on using it on your desktop. Or just don't mind using a web application. It's horrible on desktop, regardless, however. It's great on mobile, though.

Groove Music if you like purchasing albums that are fairly new for about a dollar. Don't know if they still do this, but a few years ago, I got A LOT of new albums (new to me) for about a dollar (or two) each. Picture for proof, in case you'd doubt me for whatever reason... However, I find myself using Spotify regardless. Groove Music is just awful, honestly. Windows 10 makes it better, but it's horrendous on mobile and it just sucks. Like I said... The only benefit is purchasing albums for cheap, if that's what you like to do.

Everything else is pure garbage. Apple Music MIGHT have potential if you subscribe to the Apple ecosystem, but I can't comment on it.

Oh also, sorry forgot something...

Tidal is extremely overpriced, but it's AMAZING if you have 7.1 surround headphones or if you love high quality music.

I tried it and it was day and night, but it's really not worth the price, frankly. However, you can purchase FLAC music from it IIRC, so... might want to look into that. Or just torrent it and use Google Play Music 50,000 song limit...
>>

spotify. been using it for about a year and it's great, never had any issues. high quality streams and has pretty much everything.

You can get 3 months of Spotify right now for $10.

Used to stream off of Apple music but they'll hide all your playlists when your subscription runs out. Spotify always allows access to it.

Don't get cucked by Apple.

>>
>>57813396
Is there anything Apple Music offers over Spotify? Do they have exclusives or something that you can stream early or is the exclusivity only for purchases from iTunes?

I really don't see a benefit in it.. Especially for the price. As far as I know you have to pay to stream, but with Spotify you can just stream with advertisements. Apple really didn't think this through, unless they're doing something I don't know about that gives them an advantage.

Now, if they streamed in the quality Tidal does for that subscription price then I'd say it's a solid service, but I doubt it.
>>
>>57803641
As far as getting rid of ads you can use ezblocker to get rid of them in the client. If you don't use the experimental option it will only mute the ad tho.
https://www.ericzhang.me/projects/spotify-ad-blocker-ezblocker/
>>
>>57813566
They're both have fairly similarly functions, although I did find that Apple Music had a bigger selection for bands and artists (mainly thanks to iTunes).

But Apple Music's user interphase makes me what to take a piece of paper and slide it back and forth in my dick hole. I've never seen such a disgusting UI.

Add beets for nice tagging. Total dream to use
>>
>>57815152
i'm extremely wary of any automated tagging/organizing system because of how autistic i am about my media library directory structure. also i try to get my music properly tagged to begin with.
i have all these rips i got from my dj friend which he put in a single folder and each filename starts with the track title rather than year, catalogue #, or even artist, and all the filenames are in all caps, and there is a lot of rare shit, limited releases, dubplates, etc., but scrolling through the several thousand files and trying to make sense of everything makes me feel physically ill.
>>
Apple Music. It has the largest library. Get the student discount if you can. It's five bucks a month. Only problem is they don't have a desktop client for Linux users. If that's a problem for you, then I'd go for Spotify. They also have a student discount for five dollars, I think. And they have a web client.

Spotify is good for most music, and if it's not on there I can download it and use MusicBee
>>
Since YouTube introduced an official music service which gets the uncompressed & studio remastered files directly from the owner media companies, it's become a legit contender. I mean even Spotify struggles to match the absolute depth of Youtube's music library.

Spotify
>>
>>57821946
how does it work though? you just search for music through youtube and play in your browser?
>>
>>57822047
If you're not using YT Music (a lot more convenient than my method), but are just regular user, just search (artist) + (name of song) + "topic" and the official versions will appear in the search results

https://youtu.be/OLDDwTB82-4 Here's an example using Jamiroquai.
>>
>>57822156
You could also just create a playlist when logged in. I was personally shocked to find official versions of some of the most obscure songs i know from long defunct record labels.
