Anyone else miss the fuck out of Windows classic theme?

This thing was the shit.

It tempts me to go back to 7 just for this, even though it started to look like ass by then.

No.

But I do miss Workbench.

I miss the performance of the old windows.
seems like windows will crash and burn in a few years if they don't stop the bloat.
>>
Yes. Windows 95 has the design aesthetic of professional AV gear, grey and boxy and practical.
>>
>>57794776

What is reactOS like? Is it a viable platform for Windows apps now that Windows is botnet poo-in-loo shit?
>>
>>57794749
Win2000 had the perfect look IMO

Would totally go back to it if I could
>>
>>57794749
I do. It's why I switched to loonix. It cracks me up when winfags espouse the virtues of the resource hog / botnet Cortana as being a "feature" without realizing one of the operating system's jobs is to make files and programs easily accessible.Older versions of Windows wouldn't have needed Cortana, because all your shit was where you put it.
>>
>>57794816
Eh, we said that about Vista, yet here we are.

>>57795204
Win2K was best windows, and the last version I ever bought.
>>
Yeah I miss it. Windows 9x/2000 gui was the shit. Win Ten was supposed to bring back the flat understated look but the bloat shit kinda took over. Built in compression of the core system files to save space should give anyone a hint that the bloat of Ten is way way overkill for what an OS should need to function. MS should've looked to the classic win 9x/2000 oses when they designed Ten.
>>
>>57795280
Windows has been a fucking mess for years. Apparently everyone at Redmond forgot it's a fucking operating system - not the one program the computer was built to run. Yet, invariably Windows starts grabbing every fucking resource it can leaving jack shit for the user to run their programs - you know, the shit they bought the computer for? This is what winfags just don't understand about linuxfags. Extra resources aren't for the OS. They're for your programs.
>>
>>57795280
Computing has changed. It used to be that, whether you used it for work or games, the computer was a functional device.

Now it's a piece of entertainment technology, like a DVD player.
>>
>>57794781
XFCE doesn't look at all like classic windows
>>
>>57794749
No, I find that shit revolting. It does nothing but evoke images of slow shit PCs in my mind.
>>
>>57795406
all you need is to apply a theme to it though, since of all the major DEs, its the one that's already pretty close to what windows classic looks like
>>
>>57795407
interesting, I know what you mean, though I personally like the windows classic theme. but I get that sort of feeling from the windows XP luna theme, it reminds me of super shitty slow school/work/etc computers
>>
>>57794749

The Windows Classic Theme kinda sorta looks like OS/2's Workplace Shell. The problem with it is that while Classic takes the look of Workplace Shell, it doesn't have nearly any of the functionality.

Workplace shell: Want to change a window font in the title bar? Open font manager, drag a font to the title bar, drop it. Hold the alt-key to do it system-wide.

Change a window background color? Open a color palette, drag a color to the background. Want do do it system-wide? Hold down the alt-key.

This also holds true for applications - changing fonts, colors, styles, etc.

You could have objects that did things. Create a program object (represented by an icon), take a data object (also represented by an icon), drag-and-drop to the program object and the program object produces an output object. You could string program objects together kinda like piping data through successive unix commands.

All done on a machine with 8MB of RAM.

I fucking miss that. There is nothing in Windows-land, Unix/Linux-land, Macintosh-land that does this so thoroughly and consistently. There are a bunch of half-measures in KDE and such, but nothing like what we had 20 years ago.

>8MB of RAM
You mean 4. IBM was truly magical
>>
>>57795162
It's an actual pile of shit. Completely useless because Wine on Linux works x100 better and is way ahead in compatibility than ReactOS. They'd be better off working on Wine along with even porting Classic Shell to Linux.
>>
>>57794749
Why the FUCK they had to remove it from 8/10?
>>
>>57794783
I'm convinced there are only ten people that only ever used the Amiga line and they were subjected to secret government brainwashing so that they can't shut up about it.
>>
>>57796219
and most of us are furries based on the 90's games and magazines for Commodore owners.

I'm still using it on 7 since i'm not a dumbass who bought into the 8 or 10 meme.
>>

>>8MB of RAM
>You mean 4.

I had 8.

The Mach32 card I had was a step down from the Mach32 card my friend had, though - he had twice as much video RAM.

Oh yeah, the Mach32 card: it was register-compatible with the IBM 8514 card. This meant I /never/ had a video compatibility problem for programs that expected 8514 and nothing else (Personal Designer/GCD, for example)

I use FBWF so that I can mitigate malware without an antivirus or update(WES09 cannot update automatically unlike POSREADY 2009, you must download the packages manually to install). I tried to add EWF in the target designer but it conflicted with another feature that I need so it cannot resolve the dependency. In the end I just went with FBWF and add documents and desktop as exception. All other changes are wiped after a reboot unless i perform fbwfmgr /commit directory.
>>
>>57794781
What's the most Windows-like xfce theme?

Not full classic, but with the bar in the bottom and similar windows UI without 8 or 10 influences. I don't know how to word it exactly, but I'm scrolling through different themes right now and I'm curious if you know *the one* right off the bat
>>
>>57796219
It's mostly nostalgic europoors who get really defensive when people don't agree with their euro-centric perspective of the global computing market and/or jerk them off every time they mention it.

Amigas were cool, but the fanboys can suck a cock.

shit man, I did like 6 years ago, I autistically went and compared them all

search for "Redmond" and "Raleigh". (you have to set one in regular appearance and one as the WM theme)

>I hope this person is trolling

All properly designed operating systems will consume resources, and make the resources available when needed. If resources aren't consumed, then the OS fails to do its job.
>>
>>57797720
You came back hours later to samefag your two posts? Who even cares what some random faggot said? Quit shitting up the board. I'm sorry your quality of life depends so much on convincing others that windows is anything other than a bloated, resource hogging piece of shit. Never change /g/.
>>
yes
shame there's no more modern designs like it
>>
>>57796155
AFAIK they "borrow" code from each other. Reimplementing and supporting the NT kernel makes sense though for legacy niché windows drivers.
>>
>>57796491
Embedded is solid, I use POSReady myself.
>>
>>57796254
Fuck you CIA NIGGER!

A lot of people who aren't 20-something millenial faggots used Amiga, Atari ST, DOS, and the like.

Pointing to efficiency and so forth is rare on here because neo-g is all children with no perspective.

>>

When I put my desktop back together again tonight I plan to re-install the OS. I have an installer for Windows 7 on hand, and I think something for Windows 8 as well. It's currently running 8, and I never got around to upgrading it to Windows 10.

Does anyone know if the G3258 Pentium chip still doesn't support Windows 10 or nah?
>>
>>57803040
Dumbass, he's talking about using Classic Shell on later versions of Windows so you can still have the Classic theme look even if you're not running 7.
>>
>>57803268
Classic Shell doesn't install the fucking classic theme you fucking moron.
>>
>>57794749

No because on Linux you can have any look you want without someone shoving their style down your throat.
>>
>>57796390
>>57795577
I feel the same way about Macintosh System 7

You could connect to the internet, you could playback video, you had this intuitive desktop with a million potential customizations, it all fit in 2 to 3MB of RAM

Also when I pressed the power button on my 33mhz powerhouse I got a usable responsive desktop within ten seconds

It's a haswell chips, works 100% fine with windows 10. The i7 4770K that I had and my current E5-2683v3 are based on the same architecture, and no issues at all.
