Those are little light bulbs right? They don't look like they screw into anything though?

Yes, I admit to it and would like to learn more. Any basic resources online for beginners?

Yeah I want into electronics too. It'd be cool to make a full adder or something.

To be fair I haven't been doing any real "low level" electronics since high school.

It has all come down to occasionally replacing broken capacitors and plugging modules together. Last really fun and compelling thing I did was making an 80's Oscilloscope fit for selling.

Electronics for almost every purpose became so dirt cheap it doesn't even make sense to make them oneself any more.

You probably wouldn't ever start from absolute scratch today, but you can still make things for yourself that you want to use but can't just buy.
>>

that's what the entire of /g/ is though

why did you have to choose this thread to point that out?

because you don't know it or because it just had to come out at some point?

Nope. You can teach the basics of amplifiers or basic AC to DC conversion and they'll do fine.

I think /g/ is too proud and lazy. They'd rather take comfort in their smartphones and thinkpads, and show off their 'expertise' like encrypting their SSD and rooting the firmware

did they not cover electronics at all in your schools?

What are you trying to do? Pretty much everything has tutorials.
>>
>put two or more resistors in parallel
>it equals less resistance than each of them

If electronic people wouldn't just make shit up maybe more people could get into it.
>>
I never understood the purpose of resistors. I mean, why would I want to build a circuit only to tell electrons that they're not allowed in?

>>57793231
not too stupid, just ignorant. I bet if you gave these rubes a basics physics lesson and a crash course on the functions of components maybe even a lesson in logic, they'd be making basic electronics in a week.

I never understood why sometimes companies do things like 1000 micro farad or say like .01 micro fared. Just say 1 milli farad and 10 nano farad.
>>
>>57800284
basically they don't like to use multiple prefixes to minimise reading errors. Things can be tiny and have to carry a lot of information for their size.
>>
>>57800327
not quite the truth.

You have sometimes mF used for Microfarads on some capacitors, and because of this particular notation, milli is rarely used.
>>
>>57800284
Its for consistency. They tend to keep the most common prefix so you dont have to constantly keep track of different power factors.
For example you COULD call a .1 ohm resistor a deciohm resistor, but thats a lot more complicated and less recognizable than just sticking to ohm since the only prefix commonly used for resistance values is kilo.
>>
Learning/building analogue electronics is really fun. Its neat to look inside something to understand how it works as well. Its always a bit surprising just how simple a lot of stuff is.
Also makes you realize how limited we are in terms of shrinking devices since there are many components that have to be of a certain volume.
