Artificial means something not made from nature (mostly referred to as man made).
Intelligence usually means the ability to learn and adapt.

So you use AI when you want to solve a task, but you don't really know how to, but you know what the result should be.

Eg. a game AI would play the game by doing random actions and watching how those actions impact a game.
Once it have learned to play the game well, it will play the game well.
It will not randomly start to improve the code quality of the game or add new emojies people can unlock for money or whatever.
It will do the thing you told it to do, based on the inputs you gave it.

So yes. it is a tool.
Having an AI to control the movement of an robot arm will not make it hurt humans just because robots are evil or something.
If a human gets hurt by a robot, it is because there is not efficient safety systems in place.

Robots where you work with them is comming, but they have force sensors so they can detect how hard they are pressing against objects (including humans).
