State governments will undoubtedly copy the rules, which means that anyone using a VPN or Tor will be subject to being searched (read: hacked) by any number of government agencies. It also stigmatizes usage of VPNs and Tor, which reduces usage of those products and leads to a less secure internet. Encryption will be next.

SOME Vpns are still ok, but 90% of them still give the logs for basically free to the authorities even if they don't have to.

Just buy VPSs offshore and set up your own proxy servers.

To be even more secure, get somebody in the respective country(/ies) to pay with cash so you can't be traced back.

I used the x200T for a little while. After about a week, I just used it as a regular laptop and completely neglected the touchscreen. It's a nice feature I'd you need it, but it just adds bulk for me. The x200s is nice, but I'll probably be moving to the new librebooted Chromebooks if I ever need to upgrade.

Yet an IP isn't enough to incriminate and actual obfuscation means no ins to utilize this.

Also location obfuscation by vpn is just a side-effect and not really indicative of the intent.

They also don't define whether this is just applies to vpn as a service or not.

Also that's not what the article says. It says that they can get a warrant if someone is suspected of doing a criminal act and using a VPN. It does not give them free reign to "hack" pirates.

Nowadays you should be more concerned about mobile devices. Those are the /edc/ bugs.
If you ever audited the network traffic of your device, you'd know this.

That is correct. It might be under a different name though. The tranny in charge of Libreboot is being a bit of a fag though, so GNU might fork it.

How do you know? Blind faith?
Also if you are part of a botnet they also have legal means to own you, shit is fucked up.

They did many inmoral things already, and you won't hear the voices of those who are silenced and opressed, there is a reason why privacy exists, and there is a reason why you are inocent until proven guilty, there is a lack of historical knowledge and culture in general, plus you don't fight about your own rights, you defend those who can't defend themselves. This is not about nothing to hide nothing to fear bs, this is about not only respecting other people well deserved rights. It is also imposing onto the world, and sorry but you can kys but stop fucking with other countries.

they dont need to, they already have the key because key exchange is comprised

they pre-calc large primes, because a big part is based only on a few
>>
>>57786992
see https://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2015/05/the_logjam_and_.html

>Millions of HTTPS, SSH, and VPN servers all use the same prime numbers for Diffie-Hellman key exchange. Practitioners believed this was safe as long as new key exchange messages were generated for every connection. However, the first step in the number field sieve -- the most efficient algorithm for breaking a Diffie-Hellman connection -- is dependent only on this prime. After this first step, an attacker can quickly break individual connections.

The researchers believe the NSA has been using this attack:

We carried out this computation against the most common 512-bit prime used for TLS and demonstrate that the Logjam attack can be used to downgrade connections to 80% of TLS servers supporting DHE_EXPORT. We further estimate that an academic team can break a 768-bit prime and that a nation-state can break a 1024-bit prime. Breaking the single, most common 1024-bit prime used by web servers would allow passive eavesdropping on connections to 18% of the Top 1 Million HTTPS domains. A second prime would allow passive decryption of connections to 66% of VPN servers and 26% of SSH servers. A close reading of published NSA leaks shows that the agency's attacks on VPNs are consistent with having achieved such a break.

You must not know what VPNs and tor are primarily used for, friend. If you live in the US and use either, you're instantly put on watchlists and suspected of downloading and possessing child pornography, and not the fictional kind. VPNs are *literally* useless to Americans for anything else the services are primarily used for, namely Netflix.

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/nov/18/sky-broadband-customers-warned-porn-company-pay-up-or-else-letters

Also, in August I woke up one morning to 5 police officers in plain clothes at my door telling me they had a warrant to search for home for computers and laptops, as they had reason to believe I had been uploading CP. My parents were there that morning as well. I could not fucking believe it. I have never been so ashamed in my entire life. All I could think was that I had uploaded a pic somewhere on 4chan of a girl who looked very young, as I don't upload anywhere else.

They took away my computer and laptop for a month while they went through it. I swear to god, even though I knew I was innocent I have never been so terrified. I kept going over it in my head for hours each day. Maybe I had fucked up and accidentally uploaded some dodgy shit.

Eventually they gave me the computer back but told me they had to destroy my laptop. They said something along the lines of they had found some files they had been tracking on my hard drive, but for some reason I wasn't the one responsible for putting them there. I can't remember how they explained it, maybe some malware or something, but they told me they had cleared me of any wrong doing. Told me nothing further would happen and there'd be no record of a police investigation in my name.

Fuck this post is completely unrelated to this thread. First time I've told anyone about this though.

Stay vigiliant bros. I honestly used to think privacy on the internet wasn't as big a deal as people made it out to be. You always think that way until it happens to you I guess. You wouldn't download a fucking cars
