I have an old computer with 2GB RAM, Intel Atom 230 and 160GB HD.
It suffers to play youtube videos, but I feel I could use it to do something good. Any ideas?
I was thinking about torrent server, but I'd like to take a look at other ideas

Scrap it and either sell the scrap and save up to buy a better computer or make something new. If not you could always just fuck around and start downloading shit you know will give you a virus ( this what I do all the time ).

That's a good one, but I don't have so much to save... I'm always buying old hds and making new portable storage devices.

Here's some things that I've previously thought of doing with old hardware lying around :
> If you have a bunch of old computers, set them up for classic game LAN parties.
> Install some interesting programming language compilers and do some hacking with challenging amounts of memory and processing power.
> Experiment and see what modifications you can do at the very low level. (If something fucks up, the challenge would be to fix it. If it dies, it's old, it's had its life already.)

I liked those, i'll try the programming and experimentation
Hey /g/uys! I need the shutterstock pic of the guy with the light bulb in the computer fast please!

> Try and learn to code some x86 assembly for the cpu of that computer. Would be a really fun way to learn some low level programming yourself.

I've got two of those things. I want to make torrent and file servers out of them but can't get networking to allow access to anything more than the first drive.

Play yt video with VLC (FF has addon that enables you to play yt videos with one click. FF might not be fast on Atom tho) or other player like minitube (dunno if it still works).
