I've had friends with G4s, they're great phones but I always run Cyanogenmod, which runs the risk of getting bootloops even more. I never order phones through carriers either, I try to have minimal interaction with them, so i'm SOL if the bootloader gets fucked like it tends to with these.

Last LG phone I considered getting was the V10 since I loved the way it felt in the hand, but CM never took off past a broken pre-alpha.

I like mine, the screen has much better color reproduction than the G3, the audio is fantastic, and the camera is very good. 2nd screen does not blend into the first, at all, and actually looks kinda ugly, but I've found it useful not to have to unlock the phone to check the time, and as a quick way to access music, flashlight, camera controls.

If you don't mind the size then pick one up and hope they fix the bootloops this time around. I'm personally holding off on rooting mine until the warranty goes so I don't have to bother with any potential bullshit on the part of LG

This was my primary device last year, but I'll say that it was a bit underwhelming, I didn't hold onto it for a full year before getting a OP3 this summer. I liked the design at first but in retrospect it was way too bulky, 5.7" is the max screen size i'd ever go for. Processor wasn't top-tier but at least it didn't burn your pockets like the 810 in all the other flagships last year

I ran CM13 from the get-go, can't vouch for Nougat, but knowing XDA it'll be hard to find info amidst the faggots

OnePlus One, took a long time to get one but finally did and the only regret is that I should have done it much sooner. Outstanding device, great ROM support, even considering it's age (2+ years) the Snapdragon 801 is fucking smooth like Teflon seriously.
