Windows 7 will still be easily supported by third parties until 2025 just like what happened with XP.

After that, GNU/Linux for everyday usage and Windows only if extremely necessary.

Using W7 is like getting all the negatives of W10 with none of the positives.

Best thing you can do is get a pirated 8.1 now and try to remove all that telemetry shit from it which I heard is way easier than doing on 10.

Also try to keep all this windows stuff on a VM.

Windows 10 is quite comfy if you are a power user. Telemetry has always existed since Vista and M$ updates ensure previous versions comply with Win 10 standards for data feedback.

>& unchecked all privacy settings

It's a useless exercise. It's like holding your breath in the Auswhich gas chamber. It's not stopping anything.

If you have win 10 enterprise edition >>57766776 then you might turn the telemetry down to "basic" telemetry. Which means they will still spy on you and search your harddisk. But less often. But all other versions can't do that. Only the most superficial settings like not being notified when windows does this or that.

somewhat this

i seriously dont quite get the win10 hate bandwagon. I mean every new version of windows was despised and "windows must die" shoutouts were heard but in the end the salty conservative fags moved their asses to superiour newer software. The "good ol' classics" XP and 7 werent exceptions. Its literally just another windows OS, the "your pc now belongs to microsoft" boogeyman is a fucking meme that somehow half the IT world has fallen for. Telemetry always existed and there isnt a single modern OS fit for desktops without it. If you are such a power user, nothing should actually stop you from getting your hands on "power user edition", aka enterprise, and doing whatever you want with it, disabling telemetry, disabling updates, purging every UWP app, ricing it and whatnot.
If you arent a poweruser, or basically, a pleb, you're better off with automatic updates that you cant turn off or infinitely postpone, for your own good.

In general win 10 is faster, better optimised, has better usability, while looking more professional ( "works on my machine" blabla ) Grow the fuck up.

Vulkan will be where it's at; especially since OSX has a real market share nowadays and Win10 isn't nearly big enough now to justify making games using only DX12

by the time (if) Win10 gets big enough everything will be vulkan

not to mention, DX10.1 and DX11 on linux soon enough, much much more will be running in linux by the time extended support for win7 is up

the end is soon for microshit

Why would anybody be holding their breath in the 'gas chamber' at Auschwitz? Evidence has shown Zyklon B was used to kill lice from clothing, beds and blankets. Zyklon B is a pesticide for use against mites/lice.
>>
>>57768064
It is not just telemetry, but new data collection that is argued to be more intrusive, 'real-time' and more extensive that cannot be disabled from the surface(no not the tablet) level. Also the unsolicited upgrading from W7/8.1 to 10, and the removal of effectiveness of some GPOs in group policy ticked off some users. I am fine with SVR2016/LTSB if not for its inability to support 2010 hardware. The broadcom wifi card does not even show in the device manager. After changing to WES09 the problem is non-existant although I had to install the driver afterwards when FBA completes instead of importing it into target designer.

I have plugged in SSD that lie there since two weeks.

Empty.

Want to know why?

Because /g/ made me too paranoid about installing Windows 10 (I have Edu version, which equals Enterprise). Even after I checked severl articles, tested various settings on PC at work, which runs Pro version, even tested it on laptop (as upgraded 8.1), without any fuss, resetting settings and all that crap., which is in 90% cases related purely to old preview builds.

But Im paranoid by nature and whenever Im close to installing it, there is a feeling that MAYBE tinfoils are right. Even despite that outside of /g/, even on Linux orientated forums, everyone calls ideas like PhotoDNA working on all physical discks "tinfoil paranoia".

In the end, Im still working on (partially broken - Windows Update no longer work) 6 years old Windows 7 installation, transfered to new PC via sysprep.

I really shouldnt visit /g/ with my paranoia.

Kinda unrelated, but a Macfag I know was complaining about DX and how "he needs to upgrade Windows often in order to play new games". DX11 is the standard currently, isn't it? So you could install Windows 7 right now and have access to most games and still have access to new ones for a while? I don't play PC games too much but I'm assuming this is true as DX12 is still relatively new.

Everytime I confront /g/ "news" with info from outside of it, it turns out to be pure paranoia. Even when live tested. In three cases of Win10 I installed so far, none dared to reset any of my settings. People on /g/ who tried to test russian hackers revelations about screenshoot sending and such, showed no extra traffic during 12 hours of observation, than what was officially stated by MS in their own articles, along with information about way to disable those.

Not to mention that my version doesnt even come with Cortana, due to language/region thing. And Im living in Europe, that have different approach towards private data collection.
>>
>>57766640
Why do people care about when support is going to end so much? You're going to be fine without updates as long as you avoid installing random pirated software and avoid using internet explorer. Support ending probably matters more for corporations/businesses/government than for home users.

>Tested all this myself with an msdn iso of LTSB in vmware with wireshark on host. It even sent data during installation and before the first boot. Either you have no idea what you're doing or you're lying.

And another anon and few others in different threads, did the testing on normal Enterprise after setting up proper Policies and there was nothing extra than was should already be there. Even posted videos.

Anon vs anons, basically.

Not to mention that you didnt say anything about your settings and eveyone, who have slightest idea about how things work now, knows how much they change.

Not really, most games get about the same performance, only GTA V takes a larger performance hit for some reason.
>>

>Tested with the 3rd-party "disable botnet" applications

Which is the problem, since they dont really do much - changing only few of policies and sometimes even worse - simply modifying registry, when MS states clearly that Policies override registry settings.
