Hey /g/uys, I'm interested in ham radio and want to pursue my license.

I have a question about having a good antenna.

I live in an area with a draconian homeowner's association, so I can't have a really good antenna like the one in the OP picture. What kind of antenna provides the best signal with indoor use?

3. Get a dipole antenna, they're extremely versatile

I don't think I can have my antenna outdoors, the HOA is really anal about any kind of antenna, whether it be in the front or the back. Besides, I live with my parents and they don't want any kind of wiring work done, even if I do it myself.

The ARRL website suggests that it is possible to use a dipole antenna indoors. Is this actually a good idea? Do you know if I could get good reception that way?
