>>57754960
Is there an actual human being that uses FreeDOS? I just thought that it's used as a place holder when you buy a laptop.
>>
>>57755157
I used it until DOSBox became good enough.
>>
>>57755217
Emulation was the only thing that made sense for this. (but it's weird using a 600$ device for DOS shit)
>>
there has to be porn of the icaros mascot

Running templeos as we speak
>>

I read that in Italy there's a law that all computers sold must have an operating system installed. So to get around this boneheaded thing if you want to buy a machine without Windows on it, many computer places install FreeDOS if you don't want an OS.
>>
>>57755474
Surprisingly none, considering it's the same artist as of Zig Zag

Haiku took too long. I mean, it started in 2001 and its only now (reasonably) usable. There's really no excuse for that while still asking for donations.

literally nothing wrong with illumos

To get SoundBlaster working on TempleOS, I need to allocate a buffer of memory that's below 16 megabytes. What do?

I tried sneaking a MAlloc early in the startup process hoping that it would get me a low enough address, but I can't get below 300 magabytes this way.

Phantom OS is pretty based.
It's unique feature is that it's based on the principle that "Everything is an object", in contrast to the Unix-like approach of "Everything is a file".

>All the operating system state is saved across shutdowns.
Power failures are not a problem: the saved state may not be the latest one,but it's coherent
>As everything is persistent in Phantom, it has no need in files and file system. But to present familiar user environment Phantom has directory objects, which may look as folders. They will, though, contain no files, but references to the objects. It is supposed that objects, available from those directories will be some 'high level' ones, for example, they can be forced to implement some 'application' interface (have methods such as openDocument and printDocument, or something like that), but techincally those objects are no different from, for example, ineger or string value object.

>Phantom is one big address space. But, nevertheless, everything inside is protected. Protection is based on a simple idea. Phantom is a big virtual machine. And this VM has no means to convert integer to pointer
>due to the absence of separate address spaces IPCs are really cheap in Phantom. And there are no context switches, which add effectiveness to the system

It's a pretty neat concept, not saying that it's better, but at least admit that it's neat.

OS/2 and AmigaOS already did that ages ago

>>
>>57758786
actually none of those two are pure object based OS.
If anything you could consider Xerox's Smalltalk as pure object oriented system, but even then that would be a bit of a stretch.

>>57759105
nothing senpai, just posting a kinda uknown OS in a thread about alternative operating systems.
I'm not even sure it's still being developed and even if it was it's doomed to be a memeOS like every other product mentioned in this thread.

thanks for posting this
