Alright, so what do you /g/tards actually think about solus? I know there's plenty of shitposts about this distro but how do you think it'll shape up to be in the future? It seems to do well in a few aspects and struggle in others. I personally think it might turn out to be a really good distro if they can get their shit together. Future looks bright though, what would it take to make Solus a top tier distro like Ubuntu or Fedora?
The good
>Independent Distro
>new package manager
>seemingly great performance optimizations
>budgie (can be a con as well but they have support for other DEs)
>rolling release
The bad
>piss poor package availability
>Small team of developers
>no wayland
>rolling release
is this Windows 10?

just another linux distro
i don't see why /g/ is so obsessed with shilling distributions. they are all the same shit just managed differently
Pros: it exists
Cons: so does lost of stuff that is better documented
Neutral: its the same shit

It's semi-rolling and that's a good thing. No outdated as shit packages holding you back when you're developing, while less chance of it breaking on you. Still, Solus is a meme distro as it stands.
support .deb
>>57741187
>Be Developing
>Not documenting and cherry picking dependencies
do people really just use whatever their package-manager is spewing out? Do developers not know how to compile, really?
They must get really fucked if they realize their stuff should be portable
>>57741109
i just finished installing this on a VM and it's literally fedora
Looks like shit m8.
Also
>linux
>using anything besides apt-get
I want to be productive mate. a shitty no-package-available package manger is the last thing I want.
Fuck off trying to diving users further. I don't want your brand new untested shit tier package manger, just give me apt-get.
>>57741266
>cant into dnf
>cant into yum
might as well kys your self now
>>57741363
you people...
>>57741302
apt-get > yum m8, cus i've used it and i like it mate
>>57741388
maybe you should learn how to use computers properly before complaining that other package managers don't spoon feed you
>>57741388
apt-get is deprecated
use apt
I've been using Solus for the past 6 years and honestly I don't think it needs that many changes, It Just works how it is and it's absolutely fantastic.
