http://www.techworm.net/2016/05/tor-vpn-users-labeled-criminals-hacked-spied-fbi-new-law.html

So the US is introducing a new law that will allow the FBI to hack and search any computer found using a VPN or Tor.

>The newly approved rule change by the U.S. Supreme Court will allow FBI to search and seize any computer around the world, found to be using privacy tools like VPN or Tor. The U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday quietly approved a rule change to Rule No.41, that would allow a federal magistrate judge to issue a search and seizure warrant for any target using anonymity software like Tor to browse the internet.

>Rule 41 will become a law in December if the U.S. Congress doesnt take any legislative action against it. As said in our previous article, the new ruling bestows enormous powers to FBI to be able to search computers remotely—even if the bureau doesn’t know where that computer is located—if a user has anonymity software installed on it.

>The rule changes, which the FBI said were necessary to combat cyber crime, come amid escalating tensions between the intelligence community and technology and privacy advocates, and just a day after the U.S. House of Representatives advanced a bill that would require the government to obtain a probable cause warrant from a judge before seizing data stored with tech companies such as Facebook, Google, and Dropbox.
>>
Only criminals need that shit anyways
>>
How will they do it? Will they make ISPs flag certain IPs that are known to be Tor exit nodes or VPNs? Will they analyze the traffic for Tor/(Open)VPN traffic?
>>
>>57740692
All the hacks they used on Tor users already depend on those Tor users being stupid and leaving JS enabled
>>
Can I visit the USA if I run a fast, dedicated Tor node under my real name?
>>
>>57740692
Good.
Tor = pedo & drug-user enabling software

What good ever came our of it?
>>
>>57740762
usually only exit nodes attract official attention. When they do a form letter explaining "This is a Tor node, and I am not the person you're after, I don't know who he is, and I don't have any relevant information on the matter" is usually the end of it.

though I am curious why you'd make it easier for trouble to find you by using your real name with it

Unfortunately true. There are so little "legitimate" Tor users. I guess that happens to virtually every "privacy-first" project though, it gets co-opted by people who just want it for illegal purposes.

I'm very curious how many of you folks are just trolling or shitposting, and how many of you really believe what you say.

If the latter, why?
>>
>>57740879
Because I think the problem of pedophiles hiding behind Tor is a bigger and more widespread problem than the authorities abusing their power to control us.
>>
>>57740879
I'm just shitposting but you guys deserve it. You could've came up with a better solution to combat mass surveillance by now. You have had YEARS to do something about it. And all you could come up with is encryption and putting tape on your webcam?
I have no respect for the tech people who complain about this anymore. You lost . might as well get used to it.
>>
>>57740890
the ones running the government are actually literal pedophiles
>>
>>57740890
Wew. I hope pedos die terrible sad, terrible deaths, as much as the next guy, but this is as near sighted as it gets.
>>
>>57740879
More pedophiles and criminals use Tor than morally upright journalists (talk about oxymoron I guess) and government workers attempting to anonymously right wrongs. Given the nature of Tor you can't ONLY catch pedophiles and criminals, you have to get everyone or no one. Given who the majority of Tor users are, it's obvious which choice you ought to make.
>>
>>57740692
I believe every word of this and you all should to.
Invest in icy docks. Whenever you go somewhere take your hard drives with you.
When the FBI come by to search and seize, it makes for a quick getaway: pull out hard drives and make a run for it.
>>
With hacking news going on the tv nowdays it's kinda ok that their intentions are to stop cyber crimes. But to catch a few criminals it sucks it has to ruin the rights of the majority. To avoid this mess the person needs to change their habits a lot.

>>57740866
Sometimes the law needs to be broken. Weed, slavery, Activism

So the US is introducing a new law that will allow the FBI to hack and search any computer found using a VPN or Tor.
Just using a VPN or Tor = suspected of a crime and good reason to go after you.

>>57740913
>. You could've came up with a better solution to combat mass surveillance by now.
We kinda have. "offline" mesh networks.

>>57740953
>More pedophiles and criminals use Tor than morally upright journalists (talk about oxymoron I guess) and government workers attempting to anonymously right wrongs.

>Just using a VPN or Tor = suspected of a crime and good reason to go after you.
Ain't it the truth, though. Ain't nobody using an identity obscurer to hide they identity unless they doin' something that gonna get theyselves in trouble.

I buried a 2.5" backup HDD in the woods
Twice a week I go for a walk, once to pick it up, and update it, then to bury it again.
I really should use 2 drives in rotation
>>
Honestly, I'm pretty sad, I saw this a couple of days ago on theverge, and I think it's terrible, sure, it's awesome that they can convict pedos easier, fuck that's awesome, but the problem with them finding them is still a huge issue. If you don't think it is, you're in denial. It's insanely hard to be able to talk to all these different countries, and get their permission to get the original IP from them, hell and they have to do that an insane amount of times. I think they should've came up with a law that say, something like, if you're suspected of this this and this, and if we have the evidence that suggests you did this this and this, then yeah, fuck you, we're searching your shit, otherwise, no I don't think they should. Innocent unti proven guilty right?
>>
>>57741009
>Where was this survey?
Visit the Tor-hosted wikis for links, Tor-hosted forums, boards, and image-sharing sites, and you can see for yourself.
>>
>>57741073
Well that's a warrant, and the FBI thinks it's too hard to work within the law, so we have this constitution breaking garbage.
>>
>>57741073
>Innocent unti proven guilty right?
That's how it should be, but in practice it's guilty until proven innocent. Case in point: my uncle served 25 years until they realised he wasn't a murderer.
>>
>>57740992
I imagine all people that do very important things with legislation or things of the sort have a magnet by all their devices. Fuck, I keep one in my drawer on the off chance someone was to break in and try to steal hard drives to get things such as bank info and many more important things. I've never had to use it, but it's always good to have one just in case.
>>
>>57741125
That's actually fucking insane, he got some reperations right? or no?
>>
>>57741073
>It's insanely hard to be able to talk to all these different countries, and get their permission to get the original IP from them, hell and they have to do that an insane amount of times.
The motivation beyond the "license to hack" thing is that even if ISPs and the like are very cooperative, it's impossible for any of the parties to know or figure out the original IP. That's baked into Tor's design. Even if they had a universal warrant to search anyone suspected of being a pedo, they wouldn't be able to figure out who those people are, or where they are.

really what it comes down to is that they'll be able to catch only the pedos that have poor security practices and get themselves bit by government malware somehow.
>>
>>57741158
Exactly, which is why I think that this law is really unnecessary, at that point, they could gather a plethora of evidence to get a warrant to search without having to make this in my opinion dumb law.
>>
>>57741174
You deserve it. For sitting on your ass instead of finding a solution.
>>
It'll probably get worse later on. Trump's wife had given her proposal for less online bullying. It could mean internet IDs for everyone with easy access to your internet history.
>>
>>57741048
>Ain't nobody using an identity obscurer to hide they identity unless they doin' something that gonna get theyselves in trouble.

People experiment with things they like when they are not being watched. Did your parents not give you any privacy?

Artists who want to express controversial ideas without someone knocking on their door and telling them they're naughty for thinking that.

Also remember where you are; on an anonymous image board.

>>57741096
You're picking one tiny part of the Internet accessed by Tor and formed a general a general opinion of it from that.
>>
> "The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

>>

your entire reality, be default is based on culture. You grow up and are told how the world works and how to interact with it etc etc.

Since culture is created by people tho, and people are not perfectly rational, you end up with an irrational world with lots of inconsistencies. Distinguishing between culture and reality means seeing the inconsistencies much clearer, knowing that they were created by people, and not to care about them.

LSD or other psychedelics often force this realization as a result of how you think on it. No psychedelics are necessary though, but they help for sure.

because its the exact opposite of illusion. The whole point is figuring out reality, not trusting culture, not trusting previous experience, only trusting self-evident logic. If it was an illusion caused by LSD then it wouldn't be reachable without it.

Also, there is an illusion LSD does cause, which is the enlightenment experience. Many interpret it differently, some don't think its an illusion at all. Basically it is the raw feeling that you are connected to everything, that you literally are the universe, or god. Personally I saw it as a semi-illusion. Its a failure of the brain to determine the boundary between inside and outside, and so the brain assumes the entire universe is 'inside'. To witness this, forces you to question all sorts of aspects of how you view the world and what logic and rationality really mean. It causes you to question if *everything* is an illusion. For me, this caused me to become much more interested in rationality and logic, in order to better determine what is real and what is illusion.

Yet more laws that hurt people interested in privacy but not criminals

Time to rev up those security practices.

Better disable CSS just be to safe.

Really though, recommended setup:

1), Download Devuan. Verify the GPG key.
2), Use the minimal version (e.g, don't install any DE)
3), Install OpenBox + tint2
3), use wget to download the tor browser and keys, using ssl of course.
4), Verify those keys
5), install browser how you normally would
6), set the slider to max security, and never ever enable javascript. EVER.

Use it an VM for extra sp00kyness

There also isn't any solid scientific explanation or understanding to date as to how and why we dream at all. Would it not be safe then to conjecture that there is some type of chemical mechanism at work here? Of course, science isn't based on conjecture but one thing is certain, mammals are capable of dreaming and do so quite often and not just humans. It isn't such a far stretch to think that the body is producing hormones and other chemicals to facilitate this. We're also not the only species that go out of our way to find other chemicals that might alter our perception

I took a lot of psychedelics when I was a student, sure I've had bad trips but most trips I explored more of myself and what I really wanted to do in life.
They are all chemicals but we also make serotonin and dopamine when we are in love or have a kick/rush from something.
We make most chemicals already in our own brain, drugs aren't bad the people that misuse drugs are bad and uninformed usually also a lot of production is criminalized sadly. But that is because the government doesn't regulate drugs safely, they could've stopped it a million times already but instead they keep the war on drugs that has let to even worse situations then before

there's little to explain, if you've ever has sleep paralysis or problems with sleeping on the waking edge you can sort of see the connection

the senses washed out by being fed a lot of noise and then dreaming is just sort of hallucinating while not remembering anything substantial. it's like waking up and knowing how to do things but not remembering why you're there.

ostensibly this is done to recover from finite resources used up like sugar and other enzymes that are used to process logic against senses and memories

Implying the witchhunt against the Catholic Church is not the result of a long culture of anti-Catholic smears (by Protestants) combined with the fact that Catholic Church is against the pet issues of so called progressive including an infallible teaching against abortion and homo marriage.

Here's something that should really make you think:
>during the first half of 2002, the 61 largest newspapers in California ran nearly 2,000 stories about sexual abuse in Catholic institutions, mostly concerning past allegations. During the same period, those newspapers ran four stories about the federal government’s discovery of the much larger — and ongoing — abuse scandal in public schools.

>Child pornography is one of the fastest growing businesses online, with estimated annual revenue of $3 billion. According to the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection, child pornography is usually distributed two ways. It’s either commercial child pornography that is distributed for profit, or non-commercial child pornography that is offered free or traded among offenders, like the P2P networks. ASACP estimates that the United States has the largest share of commercialized child pornography websites with close to 50 percent of the global volume. Websites that distribute commercial child pornography offer thousands of images and videos. Most children exploited are pre-adolescent. Some children appear to have been subjected to physical as well as sexual violence.

>Child pornography is one of the fastest growing businesses online
This is a vague claim so you should post the data it is based on. How do they estimate the annual revenue? Do they include porn sites that use pics of possibly underage models as clickbait to draw ad revenue? Or are these websites dedicated to child pornography with customers paying for the content? If they can track the revenue, why can't they shut them down if 50% of the websites are in the United States? All of this raises more questions than it provides answers.

Also, it says little about whether the material is new or not.

ASACP website says:
> Please report ONLY websites. If possible please provide the exact address of the page (URL) where the child exploitation (i.e. lewd images of children under 18) is located.
>Most child modeling sites are not illegal as the models are clothed and not engaged in sexual activity. However, if you feel you have witnessed sexually explicit and or lewd images of a child or children while viewing a child modeling site please report this.
>authorities are unwilling to discuss reports and ongoing investigations, so we have no details to provide regarding possible actions taken against a suspect site
>There could be many reasons why a reported site remains active on the internet. Some of the possible reasons are an investigation is still underway, no illegal material was found on the site, or the site is located in a country where the material is not illegal or where U.S. authorities are otherwise unable to act or gain cooperation from that country's own authorities.

Speaking of VPNs and shit, someone must know of a VPN service that works on 4chan.

VPNs are literally bait.

Why can't people just copy-paste these things in to another, more easily readable, format?

Anyone worth their salt in basic Constitutional rights would have this thrown-out in a heartbeat.

Ever heard of character limit? You're not even going to bother reading the opposing view, are you?

Word wrap you fucking idiot.

This is what it looks like at a readable size on my screen. I am not going to keep scrolling back and forth a line 290 characters long to read this shit.

Plus:

You can't even see all the words in the picture you posted and I guess that was your intention. Drawing attention away from the issue.

I'm the one arguing in favour of converting this to an easier to read format. In fact, I'm in the middle of doing just that.

Don't think I'll bother now. Enjoy your surveillance state because you couldn't make your arguments and information easy to spread and read.

I even posted a video of a TED talk featuring Glenn Greenwald. But I guess that was too convenient to ignore. Have you heard of websites? Do you know that you can easily read text on websites on all devices?

>VPN
>privacy tool

I use it to secure access to my server's SSH if I need to use it remotely, and that would label me a criminal? Good grief usa, get fucked with a rusty spade. I'm not compromising on my security because you're a bunch of butthurt nerdhackers.
>>
I don't understand

How can they "find" a computer using a VPN? Seeing the connection to the VPN's IP at the ISP level? There's millions alone in America using VPN for both personal and business use. Not to mention world wide - this new legislation or whatever is spooky but how are they going to actually implement this on a practical scale? It just seems like some tech-illiterate fossils signed off on it because it seemed like a good idea, without knowing the technical details.

If you are indeed serious, please get into a skype call or give me your steam ID so I can rent a booter and keep you offline. Because you're not a criminal, so you're not using a VPN.
>>
>>57750694
explain
>>
>>57750601
I'm not an expert but well known VPNs have a limited number of IPs right? They can index those to pull up a red flag when used
>>
>>57750736
Yeah but in what context is what I mean? When you connect to the VPN and your ISP records it? When you visit particular websites and find out it's a VPN IP address? And then once they find out it's a VPN IP, then what? Unless they can actually put a malicious script on the page to get your actual IP on every website, how can they even figure out who you are? Assuming the VPN doesn't keep logs, like most claim.
>>
>>57750736
also you can fucking detect it using packet inspection.
>>
>>57750736
Plus a lot of VPNs suffer from IPv6 leakage, and there's a bunch of TOR exit nodes operated by governments.
>>
>>57750712
>>
>>57750763
It's probably the ISP recording it and keeping logs. That seems like the weakest link in the chain. I think the UK is forcing ISPs to log everything users to for X years back and even though ISPs claim it's impossible I suspect it'll become possible very quickly if heavy fines are introduced
>>
>>57750804
I don't know much about VPN stuff but I thought I read somewhere that when you're using a VPN what you're doing gets obscured to your ISP or something?
>>
>>57751116
Everything you do is obscured, but they can see that you're connected to the VPN in the first place before the encryption begins.
